Cigars infused with coffee taste the best and bourbon infused cigars are the most relaxing to smoke.I do most of habits featured in this video but the most bizarre or wired thing that I do when smoking is to tear the label off the cigar first before cutting, cold drawing, or lightning and smoking. One I want to enjoy the cigar as much as possible without smoking the label itself and two I keep the label in order to look for the make of the cigar again if it's good. I only smoke about once every three months so when I do I want to relish every once of the experience.

Hey guys, I would love to see you guys learn some modern off-grid survival skills. After learning the perfect gentlemanly skills and the most dastardly rogue tricks, a certain foreign leader could become jealous of your accomplishments and send agents after you. How do you plan to not only hide, but thrive? This could be a multi-episode mini-series, where you learn different parts of the trade. Shelter, Farming, local networking (do I see a squarespace sponsor for that episode?). Even if not, could we get episodes on proper attire (suits)? You'd be helping all is almost adults be slightly less scared of the "real" world we have heard so much about. I can't wait to see what you do next.

I have a lovely humidor made from maple, hand carved with a mountain scene and pack of wolves carved into it, brass hinges, and lined with spanish cedar. It only holds 6 cigars, each separated, but that's all I need. It was a gift from someone special who's no longer with us. I don't know if it's true that spanish cedar helps repel tobacco beetle, but I do love the scent you get each time you open it up.

I too use a humidor handed down from a family member. Unfortunately, spanish cedar does not repel tobacco beetles. Nothing repels tobacco beetles as they are already present in the tobacco used to make the cigars. As was said in the episode, high heat and humidity cause the tobacco beetle larvae to hatch. I have several humidors and even use a cooler to store large amounts of cigars. As long as you keep the temp below 75 and the humidity below 75% or so, you should not have any tobacco beetle issues no matter the container. Yes, my cedar lined humidors smell better than the coolers LOL

They did list it as emphysema but he also drank about 40 ounces of booze a day since he was 16. Every picture we have of him is with a cigar in his hand except for a few with a cigarette. Heat rises, but if your cigar burns inconsistently, both in mine and my dad's experience, turn it so the part that's not burning is on bottom. For whatever reason, it will even out a bit more easily on the bottom. Granted, it's just anecdotal evidence, and I personally don't have a ton of experience with it (though my dad has a fair bit), but that's what we've found.
@krossF
@krossF 6 лет назад
what humidity do you store at? I used to store at 69% and had the same problem until I switched to 65%
@micahphilson
@micahphilson 6 лет назад
Aha, I have no clue what my dad's humidor controls the humidity at, but then again, even buying them direct from a tobacconist and smoking them immediately after, that's his observation. Though if you noticed that directly, I'll have to bring it up next time I see him to see if we can pinpoint it like that. Though isn't 65% on the lower end of the range they said is best to store them? So I wouldn't blame him for being closer to 70%.
@micahphilson
@micahphilson 6 лет назад
Nevermind, that was quick. I just messaged my dad, and he said he stores them at 70-75%, so I guess that answers that question. Though I would assume that small, precise difference doesn't affect too much other than things like that. They'd still be perfectly good. Though how they burn is very interesting then.
@krossF
@krossF 6 лет назад
whoah man, thats super humid! usually 70 is the max, be careful if you store a lot of cigars, too much humidity and you might get cigar beetles. Usually the manufacturer/tobbaconist stores them at 69-72% because of long distance transport reasons or so that people without humidors have 2-3 days to smoke them/ store them in the plastic baggie. I used to think who the hell can tell the difference anyway, but now they burn razor sharp, and i get way more flavor from my maduros. less relights too. i recommend putting a 65% boveda pack in a travel humidor with a few cigars, and smoking them in about a week when humidity stabilizes. happy smoking to you & your pop! let me know if you try it out
@krossF
@krossF 6 лет назад
ps one more note, if youre aging cigars 69% is better, but lower RH like 65 is better for smoking, and some guys even go as low as 62%. 69% is a good middle ground between aging and smoking, but 65 is the clear winner if you arent aging them for 7-10 years

I really love this presentation, noticed how mike so competently added just small notes to his friend’s presentation, he added the key temperature proceeded to take a few boss puffs and then added key points like “ first u gonna have your cellphone switched off”. This past November, I attended the Breeders Cup in Kentucky and was struck by 1.) how little I knew about horse racing 2.) how little I knew about fancy culturality of such things and 3.) how much I felt out of sorts without a cigar. Until I found these episodes of MR, I knew almost nothing about cigars. Now, if I ever go back to a horse race, I will at least know 1 of the three things I didn't know in November 2018.

Interesting stuff about the moderate smoking of cigars isn't really very unhealthy according to the FDA. I'd have to look into that, because I was convinced that it would still have a negative empact, being smoke and all. Other than that, this video is very informative! Good job!!

Generally, you don’t inhale it. Just into the mouth. So there is a chance of mouth cancer and what not, but you would have to be smoking them everyday or very very often. It’s not like smoking cigarettes or chewing where you’re constantly have something packed in your lip or smoking multiple cigarettes a day. Usually you sit down, smoke one for a few hours, or even longer.

Outstanding, comprehensive video on cigar smoking; I would expect no less from the Modern Rogues ! :-) That said, I would respectfully add a correction. While a nuanced smoke is difficult to enjoy while doing something like mowing the lawn, if you're outside, especially if you are moving around, you want a cigar with more robust body then what you get if you in an environment where the air isn't moving much. The inside of a garage with the door open is probably in between lawn mowing and completely inside where the air isn't moving much and the smoke hangs around. As a general rule, you want one stage up in robustness than you normally enjoy if you're mowing the lawn, golfing. Obviously, its not just about the body and cigars are even more so than other things: "your millage may vary." Different people find different cigar taste profiles enjoyable. The right one is the one you enjoy for that particular environment, your particular taste. There are people that love what I would call a "bland" flat cigar, as I enjoy exceptionally robust cigars with as much complexity as I can get - this no matter the environment. However, that is just what I found I liked. Other people's taste run in different ways and its all ok. And I should mention that I'm a grandmother who never smoked cigarettes who was turned on to cigars by chance about 20 years ago or so in my late 40's. Stereotypes hold that I should like a mild cigar, something with a smaller ring gauge. However, the opposite is in fact true in my case: Again, I like very robust, very complex cigars and I prefer a large gauge as I dislike a hard draw (as a general rule, larger gauges will offer easier draws). That said, this isn't a contest. Again, its about what tastes right for you in various environments and circumstances. I would also add (though I may have missed it, in which case I apologize) that if the cigar becomes almost sour, and the "cherry" is cone shaped, you are smoking the cigar too vigorously, or puffling too often, or both (what cigarette smokers may call, "hot boxing"). One of the many reasons I love cigar smoking is that it forces me to slow down, take a break, relax. It is far better to have to relight a cigar that has gone out than err on the other side and ruin your experience. Fear not however, let the cigar go out, when re-lighting, exhale through the cigar somewhat....assertively? a few times and this should clear out any lingering sour flavor and you can go back to enjoying your smoke. (Finally, I will add that when I was younger, if I was engaged in physical activity, I had a greater tendency to hotbox a cigar, simply because I was breathing harder. So, when golfing or something, just be a bit more mindful). .
@shannonmcstormy5021
@shannonmcstormy5021 3 года назад
While some of what was discussed might seem somewhat "hoity-toity," part of what is going on is ritual. Rituals have been part of mankind for, arguably, hundreds of thousands of years, certainly since the first civilizations. They can tap into very primal portions of the brain and smells/tastes are processed by some of the oldest parts of the brain, evolutionarily speaking, and dynamically interact with memory - thus the soothing effects of chicken broth when ill or the smell of grandmother's cookies at Christmas or some other holiday or celebration. So the rituals of cigar smoking add to its enjoyment, rather than detracting from it. Having to learn how to enjoy an activity or experience can make you feel part of, included, sort of a "catching yourself doing something right." And while enjoying a cigar with friends is awesome, enjoying a cigar with strangers, say at a tobacconist who has tables and couches can provide a feeling of deep camaraderie as you experience others in an open, welcoming, inclusive environment. Lots of times, I've been the only woman sitting with a group of men and the community we create, even if just temporary, can be rich, safe, open and fulfilling. At the same time, enjoying a cigar watching a sunset alone after a hard day's work can provide a profound spiritual or at least spiritual-esque experience that is different, but just as enjoyable, a time to reflect and appreciate the splendor of nature and the infinite complexity of the universe. Finally, I should note that cigars, being more "base" than cigarettes, are more readily absorbed by the organs of the mouth. Just because we aren't inhaling (or only engaging in a token amount of "French inhaling"), if you don't regularly smoke, smoking a cigar as substantial as the Modern Rogues enjoyed in the video above can often deliver a potent "high" that can be enjoyable. Pair it with a good coffee (as mentioned by the smoke-shop owners as naturally complimentary, as can be chocolate btw) can really get one's head spinning, but in a good way. Make sure that you realize that you may be impaired. Enjoy it as part of the whole experience, but do be careful about the decision to get into a car and drive home..... (a nicotine hangover the next day is not uncommon and your mouth can taste like an ashtray. Drink lots of water and get some food in you; you should feel a lot better :-) .
