Something people keep missing, the shield has a unique effect if you block spells. Boosts the projectile it shoots out quite a bit

1:04 I found another entrance to that cave because I never found a grace for it and I went all the way down to the mini boss. Not sure where but I was just exploring and found a different entrance

You can get a pitch black katana, that has dark particles emitting from it passively. Since it's only semi-corporeal, it can go through shields.
