ASMR can help me sleep. It might help some of you sleep as well. If anyone doesn't known what ASMR is then the easiest way to explain it is that ASMR is a genre of videos that you can find here on RU-vid that is supposed to help people relax and feel better. Some people even use it to deal with anxiety and depression.

The problem for me is that the area that I sleep is the same when I'm sad/depressed things like that... because when I'm depressed I can't get of my bed... So I can't sleep because I keep remembering bad things that happened.. or the bad thoughts, or things that I should have done that day but I didin't because I wasn't ok... things like that.. and then is 3 in the morning and I end up taking something to sleep... =/ Does someone has any tip? thaks

Kind of laughing to myself, because as of now I haven't really slept for about a week. I'm the person everyone calls at three in the morning when they need to talk to someone, plus I used to get called in to work overnights constantly. I legit just don't sleep. Never really bugged me though, good tips in the video though! Once I have some time to actually sleep, I will have to try them out.

I have someone in my life that fights a lot of what you talked about and still wonders why she can't sleep. That's probably a video in itself, how to turn off or work with your inner dialogue to truly try out these things and not keep coiling up that stress and anxiety about how everything doesn't work. I look forward to more of this type of video from you. The camera distance and setup feels perfect...calming and intimate. Sleep viewers and dream of golden frogs.

This video could not have come at a better time. I've been experiencing terrible anxiety and panic at night which keeps me awake. It's hard to remember in the moment that I might be able to stop it before it starts. I have learned from experience that I get better sleep if I listen to my body. If I'm tired before I normally go to bed I let myself sleep, and I don't force myself to lie down if I'm wide awake. Thanks for the video (I can't seem to click the mystery playlist image...)

Love the intro!! And I agree about technology... I read an article on not being able to sleep and the first thing they said was to unplug. If I recall correctly, the electronics have something that makes your body think it's still day time. The article even said to unplug from everything, use only candle light and eat celery.

When I'm laying in bed having trouble sleeping, something that works 99% of the time is completely relaxing my muscles. It sounds simple, but it really works for me. I scan my body to become aware of muscles that have tension, and I work to let it go. Next thing I know, I'm asleep!

I work different evening hours sometimes past midnight so I am always out of wack ...I need 8 hours of sleep. Tips: play relaxation music, search "zen" on youtube, put a loud floor fan on "white noise" and block all light in room. I have an eye mask I slip on in the morning hours to stay asleep when the sun comes up. I even put my phone in front of my alarm clock because any light in the room bothers me at night.

How much does lack of sleep (or lack of good sleep) affect anxiety levels and SH urges? I know mine seem FAR worse when I can't sleep...which makes my anxiety and SH urges worse...which makes sleeping hard...and...I'm sure you see where this is going. It's a vicious cycle...and one I'm currently stuck in!

I've tried to get on a schedule especially because of school but when I don't have my sleeping meds it doesn't really work. I would lay down at the same time but I would lay there and not sleep at all. So for me no matter how much I try to get on a schedule, I have to rely on my medication. I do try to take them at the same time every night though. My body is so used to being up all night since the age of 7 so that's almost 20 years ago.

I work at 5 am. That means that I get up at 3:30 every morning. I have been at that schedule for 9 months and I am still not used to it. I haven't seen 8+ hours of sleep in a very long time. I start to get ready for bed at 9:00 and try to get to sleep about 9:30ish. Though, that doesn't always happen. I take my meds around 9. Since I take Seroquel, that helps me fall asleep. I think I would have died by now without that little push into night night land. :) Thanks for your tips. I will try some.

For me music, reading paper books, stretching routines for flexibility improvement, music (certain albums like White Pony - Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins - Coldplay - Johann Sebastian Bach (specially his Goldberg Variations in piano or haspircord, cello concertos) - Ludwig Van Beethoven - Warpaint... So many artist. Music helps me a lot. Also these reddit videos where they read the subreddits? I fall flat. I also pray and focus on gratefulness. Applying lavender, mint, eucalyptus, thyme, rosemary, lemon. Also drinking a tea and making sure you're hydrated, do you won't wake up from thirst. Have a bottle in your night table. But sleep hygiene is so important. Don't take it for granted. From a person with insomnia and hypersomnia... Take it from me. And let's face it, the onces (in my case) who have a good relationship with your partner, sometimes sexy times before bed can leave you so relaxed you fall asleep like a baby.

If you have a hard time giving up entertainment in bed try having a book of short stories or poems and a little light you can turn off without getting up. Reading short stories helps me give up my phone and computer at night. My favorite is The Draco Tavern by Larry Niven. It's a bunch of sci-fi stories about different kinds of aliens and it's not really scary or sad. :]

Hi Kati, I have had a sleep problem for a long time now. I take zolpidem to help sleep as I've been struggling with severe relapses & trauma related breakdown. The thing is the zolpidem relaxes me enough be able to watch tv & not get disturbed (from psychosis) in the day to concentrate & be me, or use my smart phone; emailor chat which is very hard cognitively in the daytime. I also get v hungry & want to snack a few times. So i don't fall asleep til 3-4am then due to the chaotic mental hell in the daytime I can't get out of bed til 1-2pm. Tonight I've tried a bedtime routine at 11pm to help the zolpidem work but I'm wide awake at 2.41am. Ive not been snacking either! On going to bed I listened to a guided meditation that really relaxed me but not enough to sleep, so I tried relaxing music & before I knew it I was watching your videos back to back! Now I have to focus on getting up at 9am & staying up to break this circadian rhythm cycle as hard as it is depression & anxiety wise. Its hard not to turn to your phone for sleep aids.

For me it's the opposite with the technology, when I watch videos in bed I fall asleep immediately, especially certain types of videos like videogame footage for example. Even if there's explosions or loud commentary, HuskyStarcraft puts me right to sleep. Having a tablet is the best thing that happened to my sleep schedule (it used to happen with the radio in the 90s, but it was a lot less predictable)

i listen to old disney movies. not watch them, but listen. I turn the volume down and the first minute or so i don't hear anything just yet. but once the breathing slows down and I found my sleeping-position I am able to start following the story. it shouldn't be a too "exciting" movie, though. beauty and the beast works beautifully - for me. and while listening to belle and tassilo and lumiere I try to remember the scenes from the movie. so sometimes I fall asleep from just listening. other times from trying to create the pictures of the movie in my mind. both keeps me from overthinking, spiraling, questioning but definitely doesn't keep me from sleeping.

This is a great idea. It's typically light that causes wakefulness. Sound isn't nearly as bad. I would recommend putting a blanket over the tv to further limit the light exposure.

Thanks for posting this :) I have definitely started working on the routine before going to bed. I also listen to some relaxing music. But the one question I had for you, is that sleeping for me brings on a lot of anxiety and self guilt, which drags into the next day. Making it hard to eat since my brain says NO when it comes to food. I hope I made sense :( And P.S. Do you still answer facebook personal messages? Just curious. Thanks! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!

I saw a sleep doctor because I hae insomnia and non restorative sleep disorder, another thing they said is. A few hours before bed slowly dim your lights, just like the sun goes down at night... Light wakes us up. Before electricity people went o bed much earlier because there was no light and they had nothing better to do lol. That's also why TV and others screens wake us up. We are staring at bright lights, and it tells our brands its not bed time it's party time! Woo!

When I'm in bed alone at night the depression, self hatred and self harm voices start chattering and it's really hard to shut those off. I usually daydream little stories in my head or listen to music until I start to doze off, but that doesn't always work. Do you, or anyone reading this comment, have any tips for quieting the voices? That's a really good question. The best approach is to use your bed differently during the day than you do at night. When you're not using your bed to sleep. Sit upright, don't get under the covers, keep the lights on. If it's not a twin bed, use one side for non-sleep activities and the other side for sleeping.

That's call cognitive arousal. It's insomnia if it is causing you to not be able to fall asleep or stay asleep. The best thing to do when you experience is exit your bed, go to another room and do a low stimulus activity like reading until you cannot keep your eyes open. Repeat until you fall asleep.
