HOW TO GET TURBO FLUTTER! Fiesta Ecoboost Thanks for watching guys, please leave your comments down below, don't forget to hit that subscribe button for more content in the future!
One thing we have figured out with several ecoboosts on the dyno that boomba and turbo smart reduce power a good tone but I have a bov because I don't want my turbo to be fucked . I love your Fiesta brother keep up the good videos 🙏
the flutter is not compression surge, my local mechanic explained this to me. He said, firstly the turbo on the ecoboost are "toy turbos" meaning they are quite small, and the boost they can produce is quite decent, but nothing that cant do compression surge, and the noise we hear its simply the air bouncing back from the induction kit. I see you have ITG installed, its by far one of the air filters that sucks in more air than others. So its normal the flutter, try removing the ITG and going back stock air filter, you will see the flutter is almost gone. Great video!
Great video showing this valve on our fiestas. I have the Uprated recirc valve from turbosmart too and i never thought that i would get a flutter sound like the dual port. Keep it up!
I love the noise, you uk guys have it easy, the US and Canadian fiesta the blow off valve is located under the car and it’s a pain in the ass to install but still decently easy
Planning on doing this to mine but without the uprated recirc valve, iv heard you get a better sound than standard when just fitting a full induction kit?
Thanks man have the fastest 2.0l edge titanium in the world still can't get turbo flutter. Meaning I have the fastest quarter mile time for any edge. 7.3. But I have a bov because of the surge .
People commenting on here don't presume that the flutter noise it's making is due to my BOV being set up wrong. When in fact all 1.0 Ecoboost fiestas make this noise with the same BOV set up
Mine doesn’t make the flutter when I let go off the throttle just goes woosh. When moving off and slowly lifting the throttle is when it makes the stu stu stu noise. You’ve also used the wrong line to connect it to. If you check turbo smart manual, it’s the connection behind it that you cut into
I'm reading all these comments 😅 All be it not actual flutter, the noise comes from the recirculation valve - the chattering or fluttering is caused by the spring / diaphragm moving up and down, just like the end of a whoopie cushion. Its the air going back through the valve, into the intake. Not the turbo.
@@NathanFletcherYT I get you man, but I'm really genuinely sorry to have to prove us both wrong here.... or atleast I think we are... I got a bit worked up and thought I would take a look myself with mine, I plumbed it back into where the original one goes after testing - but i popped the line out, from where the t piece is, and it still fluttered, which makes me think thats maybe not the right way to have it set up. I promise you now the cars got the valve back where it "should" be, it pulls much better, and doesn't drop as much boost in between gears, and gives the usual recirk pshh. It's totally your own choice dude, but just a heads up I'm not entirely sure were fighting in the right corner here hahah!
@@dannybrown6754 Haha no problem buddy, I just installed it how Turbo smart recommended and I know that everyone who has one of these gets the same flutter noise so...
@@NathanFletcherYT Fair play man! I have only saw 3 videos, and they are set up like yours, but turbosmart never really got back to me over the whole course so i went in blind there, and with the left over t piece its blanked off, but i guess i could see if a boost gauge will fit next haha
I'm entirely confused about your understanding of what's going on here. And I think you are confused mate. A Bov is intended to STOP compressor surge ( flutter) By venting boost pressure to atmosphere.. or most turbocharged cars now have what's called a recirculation valve or diverter valve.. which diverts the unspent boost pressure back into the inlet side of the turbo after the air filter box which in turn stops it going from the closed throttle body back to the compressor wheel causing your flutter. If you have an atmospheric Bov installed and you're getting flutter then you have it set up wrong ( vac lines ran wrong or spring is to hard inside it) you should have nothing but a loud tsshhh sound with an atmospheric.. same goes for a diverter or recirc valve. You'll get a tsshh noise but not as loud as the atmospheric one. To create flutter you need to have no valve between the turbo and the throttle body, just plain old pipework. This way when the butterfly in the TB slams shut when you let off the throttle all that pressure will go back to the turbo and stall the wheel several times in quick succession causing the noise.
@@NathanFletcherYT I'm not trying to be a dick.. I'm just speaking from experience, this "plumb back" is a recirculation valve.. it vents all the pressure back into the intake. I'm not some young lad that likes Induction kits and big bore exhausts that drives a saxo.. I've been there and done all this. I have many years experience under my belt. It's easy to wash off someone's statement because we all think that on the internet anybody can be anybody. I'm only trying to help you understand what's going on mechanically dude. Not just be that asshole that says you're wrong without an explanation. All I'm saying is if you're getting flutter and you have a valve of any kind installed be it recirculation, plumb back, atmospheric, whatever.. then the thing is set up incorrectly. These valves are intended to steer boost pressure away from entering the turbo again from the wrong side when it's unspent. Regardless if the noise sounds cool.. that's all I'm saying
A blow off valve is basically there to eliminate turbo flutter. Turbo flutter is when the pressure gets stuck and forces its way backwards. Actually not necessarily good for the turbo. So a blow of valve releases the pressure instead. And I’m pretty sure the fiestas have it routed to reuse that pressure. Can’t remember it’s name but it cycles it back again to Ruduce turbo lag
Doesn’t sound as good as our reps Dump Valve on her fully forged 180bhp 1.0 eco boost with 6 speed st gearbox. Search north east modified irl on Facebook and you’ll see the video we shared of hers ;)
End of the day it's still a 1l lawnmower engine that you have to rev the shit out of to get anywhere - where as a bigger engine will use less fuel and not have to rev so hard to get upto speed. I bet my little 160bhp turbo diesel will run circles around these 180bhp lawn mowers with breaking a sweat :P
i have the same car I hope you realize a BO valve is to stop the turbo from spinning and the fiesta makes crazy turbo rpm so your gonna burn it out. Don't ever be an engineer
