The way this flow frame works really encourages people to truly love on their bees instead of pushing them around and ripping their home apart. To love them as true pets. Bless you all for this development. And you all had not shortage of detractors when you first came out either!
Yes gardening for the bees is great, offering 3 different varieties of flowering plants is a good first step. Have a look here www.honeyflow.com.au/blogs/beekeeping-basics/bee-friendly-gardens -Kieran
Hello from Doylestown Ohio USA - I've been keeping bees for about 10 years and now my daughter and son-in-law have purchased a good size farm and she wants to buy a flow hive and start keeping bees. My grandson Jack loves honey on everything he eats, so we need lots of bees! Looking forward to working with your equipment.
Last fall a lone bee was hanging out on a nearby table in the yard. he looked hungry so I poured him some Sprite on the table. He liked it. I came back awhile later and the mostly empty sprite can was on the ground. I checked and he was in the can drinking the Sprite.
I just purchased the 7 frame starter bundle. I am so nervous. I've been following you for at least 6 maybe 7 years now since the crowdfunding. I have watched so many videos I should be an expert (haha). Do you have a video for starting or introducing the colony to the flowhive at the very beginning?
I used some burr comb and some pure block wax I bought from a bee supply company. I melted it all down and used a paint brush to paint the melted beeswax onto all 7 of the flow frames. We really haven't gotten a good Spring flow yet as our weather here in Oklahoma has been crazy this year. Hopefully that will change soon and the bees will start drawing out and filling the frames soon.
Waxing the Flow Frames is good but its actually better to use the wax from the same hive and just push some small chunks into the surface of the comb. So that the bees are attracted to the pheromone and any honey residue present. -Kieran
I will try this technique this season here in Tennessee. It makes sense that it will help to spread a bit of wax over the untouched Flow frame to get the bees started. I'm on my 3rd year using a Flow hive and it's quite amazing how well it works. Still there are many tips and tricks to learn to get better with each season. Thank you! I just love the ease of harvesting. Unbeatable!
@@FlowHive There are other bee info sites that I can share my info about your company not standing behind your overpriced product. ALL you had to do is replace your broken pieces.
Hello from Texas. I plan on getting a Flow Hive this spring here. I will introduce a nuc to the hive and get started with the hive. Thanks for the videos
This was a really helpful video, as my hive/ flow super is in almost the exact same condition as this one in the video. I've got more honey stores in my brood box though. In Adelaide. Thanks.
I'm so excited to start bees here in Iowa USA. I've seen some pretty large colonies around my area. We have cold winters here so I have alot to learn. Would be great to have the first Flow hive in the area. I'm saving up to buy one.
I have a Flow Hive Box … I was wondering why the center artificial combs become dark, as if they have had brood. I run a queen excluder between brood box and Flow box … in one of my boxes there was even drones, which was strange. But in general they all tend to have dark frames in the middle, with no drones visible.
Hi I’m on coastal Mandurah WA I have flow today I’ve decided to feed my bees so I’m putting the tank on top of the flow is that positioned correctly. Not much blossom now, beekeeping advising a Dearth year
Hi , you make nice informative videos. I watched many of them. I am starting this season with bee keeping. And I wanted to ask your vision on using a jacket or a full suit. Whitch one did you preferred, and why? Thanks!
Flow Frames are made from high food grade plastics, The clear viewing ends of the frames, as well as the honey tube and caps, are made from a virgin food grade co-polyester. The manufacturers have assured us that it's not only BPA-free, but also free from bisphenol-S or any other bisphenol compounds. Third-party labs have tested this material and the results have demonstrated that it is free of estrogenic and androgenic activity. The centre frame parts are made from a virgin food grade polypropylene which is also free from any bisphenol compounds and is widely accepted as one of the safest plastics for food contact. -Kieran
@@FlowHive Thank you for such a detailed description of structural plastic materials that are used in the production of sliding frames. I even found out about the existence of bisphenol-S (along with A and F). This means that polypropylene is the most durable and suitable material for the manufacture of honeycomb frame elements. It must be assumed that before putting the nectar into honeycombs, the bees cover the artificial cells with wax. Therefore, honey does not have long-term contact with synthetic materials.
is it too late here in Texas for bees to make wax for the supers? My bees aren't making too much of an effort to create wax in the supers...i have two flow hives, with two brood boxes and two flow supers...any advice is appreciated. thx
Hi Darren, it is important to add the Flow Super to brood boxes that are filled with bees, in some case bees are quite content with using two deep brood boxes in the first year, and sometimes using two brood boxes actually means using two mediums which. equates to just a bit more space than a single deep. We recommend adding the Flow Super to a single brood box first and then if the bees have filled these, add a second brood box between. support.honeyflow.com/how-do-i-add-the-flow-super-to-my-brood-box/ -Kieran
We use comb guides, for the bees to build their own comb down. It is important to inspect these frames after around a week or 2 to ensure the bees are building nice and straight. Have a look here for more info. www.honeyflow.com/blogs/beekeeping-basics/foundationless-brood-frames -Kieran
If you're trying to say that you are thinking of having 2 hive colonies, that each colony will have a brood box, a queen, a queen excluder, and a super, I can tell you that that seems like a good set up to me. Just make sure the excluder is between the brood box and the super that way the queen doesn't lay in the honey super. Also, of course make sure those colonies have bees.
It was a bit overcast, we have a few live videos in the rain. But most of the time the weather is clear and the bees enjoy their great view of the bay. -Kieran
@@FlowHive A beautiful landscape and a violent multi -traffic not only caresses a bee gaze, but also brings vigor and good disposition to the beekeeper. All the best to the inhabitants of little paradise!
