The best way today is to create your own material. If you don't have an agent, you'll just get student films and low budget stuff that won't get any attention.

i know this was particularily aimed at acting as a career but this really goes for any career but it's good advice.

Personally, as an aspiring film actor in LA (I’m 28), should I focus more on doing student/independent films or theatre to become recognized in your opinion?

Hey Robert, Both are good and will provide credits for your resume. You won't get reel footage from theatre though, so you're hoping somebody important will be at one of your performances, which does happen. I wouldn't rule anything out for now, stay busy stay active.

Thanks for the motivation! I've got a lot of footage and my reel will be coming in the next few months hopefully.

Thank you for your channel and all of your advices ! You are so helpful , especially regarding the details we tend to forget ! Also, i am in Montreal and putting together a team to produce quality demo videos, some would be real short movies and others would look like extracts of long movies, do you think it could get some attention ? I want to put my acting skills (also as an art director) forward , as well as making my collegues shine, i do believe in team work and Canada can be a gentler place than the US regarding that. What do you think ?
