Good video man. My little brother is a lot better than I was at his age especially at hitting. My chances to play baseball at a high level are over. Now I’m just trying to train him and help him out. Great video.

I’ve always been pushing my hands back, so the coiling looks like a much better way to get my body prepared. Thanks for the video, super helpful.

Thanks, Matt! Got a date with a beast college softball pitcher and I'm literally going to practice hitting hardcore beforehand lol. This girl throws harder underhand than I do overhand so, you know, pride and such.

Great video, especially near the end when you talk about the hands. I was always a great hitter as youth player, but it went downhill in HS ball. my varsity coach focused on my swing mechanics, but never talked about having my hands ready. Thus, my swing changed in HS and I never understood why I was such a good hitter before. I’m in my 40’s now and have been playing rec league for the past 15 years. I am now a solid hitter again because I retaught myself to hit as an adult, while paying attention and understanding the nuances I feel in my hands when my timing is on point. When my timing is off, the first thing I focus on is getting the feeling of “readiness” back in my hands, which is also the same feeling I get when I play tennis. When I get that “ready” feel, I don’t feel rushed in my swing nor do I feel like I’m guessing at pitches. I see the ball clearly and can be very selective. Now, I’m trying to teach this concept to my teenage son so he knows his baseline for those times when his timing might be off and how to self-correct.

also keeping the hands with a slight "pull back" freezes you OVER the ball where you can collect and READ the pitch before moving to fast forward

This is top secret information for me , been playing social baseball for years as the guy who can hit hard but just not that good.hit few home runs awesome doubles ,but always try remember what I did right before that awesome hit . And been youtube video Hopping to find that 1 key component right before ball gets cracked on sweet spot... this scalp or tricep muscle flex makes any batter look hard and ready and that all said helps with timing /bat path . Really awesome thanks

Matt, another great video. You're one of my go-to sources when I'm researching or looking for clarification. Probably my first issue of disagreement I've had was in this video, and it's a matter of semantics. You sort of equated "walking away from your hands" to "doing nothing with your hands." Maybe it's my misunderstanding of the term, but the way I interpret walking away from your hands is that they stay stationary while the rest of the body strides forward. So in effect you are creating the coil (though maybe to a lesser amount) that you were talking about by simply keeping the hands where they were while the rest of the body moves forward. This also creates the coil/load (scap load?)/tension in the back that you discussed in the video. As I said, maybe I'm the one that's misunderstanding the term, but I feel like if you keep your hands back as I described it achieves what you favor. As always, great video. Thanks for everything you've done. It's helped me understand things much better so many times.

Another grrat video, i really identify with what i call chasing the ball with my chest, in other words being to handsie in my laod to lauch positions causing my chest to leed to the ball instead of the knob of the bat, this is the cause f my inconsistency at the plate.

You should give your thoughts on the new padres jerseys then compare them to the ones from this year and the ones that you wore.

Finally. I’m 35. I’m fat. (Ish. I’m not bad for 35) and I haven’t held a (base)ball since 6th grade. But after watching this video... I’m ready. Hook me up with some scouts Matt! Ok. Actually I’m just going to have a beer and watch the scout with my kid. BUT! If the time comes. I’ll be ready! Thanks to this video!

Can you do a video on kids that have problems with stepping towards first base instead of the mound when swinging? I've used bungee cords to strap his foot to the other side of the cage, but he still steps open during games.
@johnopilla8301
@johnopilla8301 4 года назад
Suggestion. Try tying the cord to the knob of his bat and front ankle. Should help him keep his hands back.

What about the swing though? Do u focus on slotting the back elbow connecting it to your hip? Or do both hands and arms work together at the same time?

First off, Matt is a "Professional Baseball Instructor" that is what he gets paid to do, LEARN from his instruction videos about the actual game of baseball. Watching Matt play on RTTS is much more interesting, because he has been there. Unlike a 20 year old in his parents basement playing on beginner who has never even played in Little League.
