How old are you? I’m 13 in three months and I don’t know anything:( I want to know how long you have been doing it and how old you are so I can see if I’ll make it
I wish I had a gymnastics center to train at. I remember the uneven bars from when I was a child doing gymnastics then I stopped for years and years and now I am trying to be a gymnast. The bars used to be my favorite part of the sport/art. Gymnastics really is an art, and when I go to heaven I'm going to train gymnastics three days a week forever and ever! You can too :)
Thanks so much!! I'm in gold level 1 which is like level 5 in most places and I watched this about 3 times before I had gymnastics..and tonight I had gym for about 3 hours and I asked to try a kip at the end since I have been wanting to accomplish it tonight..so I pulled the bar down really hard and remembered not to stradle to early and then YAAS I GOT IT!!! This helped so much! u don't know how happy I am that I got my kip because of this
i’ve been training my kip for a while, and a few weeks ago i finally got it! thank you for the pointers! (ps. the corrections apply the same way regardless if your doing a pike kip or straddle kip)
Meggin, I have been trying to get my bay muscle up for years, and I finally got a few ones this week by apply some of your pointers on your kip tutorials! Thank you
I competed in 1990 to 1995 my coach was Emilia Eberle.I was age 23 when I started up again after doing gymnastics as kid..now Im even older...lol and I found myself buying all this gymnastic equipment and doing it at home...nothing major just to stay in shape and strengthen my back..I wish you were my gym buddy! I got to level 7 but didn't compete...
thank you for this tutorial. i have pretty basic skills right now but there's so much i want to learn! your tutorials are awesome you teach exactly the way i learn!!! :)
i wish you were my coach...i don't have a coach. but i;ve already taught myself alot of things, with your help.cartwheel roundoff backhandspring pull over back walkover front limber back arabian back hip circle front handspring mill circle shoot through. now i need the front hip circle and the kip...
I totally agree with you! I didn't even know how to do a cartwheel until I started gymnastics when I was 15 yrs old. after a year...I was competing level 5 and continued to level 9. Now I'm a coach :)))
Hi Meggin, I have a question. I have heard many times that ideally, the gymnast's body should be parallel with the ground with shoulders open at the end of the kip. However, it seems in reality this is never how a glide kip is performed. The two ways that I see glide kips performed (both of which look very nice) are 1. how your kip looks, which has a straight body, parallel to the ground, but shoulders are not completely open at the height of the glide or 2. How I see most Olympic gymnasts perform their glide kips at the beginning of their bar routines, where they have a nice straight body with open shoulders, but their body is at an angle down from the bar and not parallel to the ground. If the gymnast's body was perfectly straight, parallel to the ground, with shoulders open to 180 degrees, their body would be at the height of the bar, and I've never seen a kip performed this way. It's something that has always kind of bugged me and I've been curious about it. I'm a gymnastics coach working on glide kips with girls, so I've resorted to teaching them how I see the Olympic girls perform them (with their body down at an angle from the bar).I'd like to hear your take on this! Thanks.
I was out for 6 weeks due to a broken wrist AND I just got grips when I got back so my kips have been horribly bent (which is awful because I wanted to start working cast handstands) I am barely making them. I'm going to try some of these drills next time and hopefully they will help me shapen up for this skill again.
they are bar grips! they are used for better grip on the bars so the hands dont slip. they also reduce friction so the skin wont rip or get blisters! hope that made sense..
HI coach! My legs don't stay attached at the bar for the entire movement and so I fail to reach the kip :( any exercises that could help? your wonderful I wish you were my coach!!
Thank you this really helped but I still couldn’t because I saw another vid of kips and you said that if my arms are to far from the bar when your getting up you have to lean forward but I can’t seem to figure that out so please make a video on that but other than that my coach thinks my glide swing is really good thanks to you I have comp in 6 weeks so I have to get my Kip by that time
i have two questions first im so close but i cant pull is there a reason or drills i should do and how do u get alot of power in your glide cause im sorta tall and i sometimes get to low and hit the ground i hope ill get it the only thing is the pull and your amazing i always want to see your videos i hope u make more on hard and cool stuff wich u probably will cause your cool
What's easier? Doing it with a pike glide or a straddle glide? Also, could you make a video of kip drills you can do on the floor? I want to do them at home but I don't have a bar.:(
Thank you for your enthusiasm and straightforward teaching! I will definitely try these in the gym :) Can I ask when you would recommend starting to use grips? I constantly get rips every week so I use athletic tape as 'makeshift grips'- I can only do A level skills at the moment.
I did my all bar routines and exercises without grips. I was the only girl in my class who didn't like grips. I thought it felt more natural without them. :)
Ok, I have a question. I want to start gymnastics, but Im worried Im going to be the oldest one there. Im going into high school net year, so Im wondering, will I be the oldest in my class?
Being the Oldest isn't necessarily a bad thing. I am 10 and i do level 4 competitive gymnastics and there are some people there like, 16 or 15. They always lead everything mostly cuz they get respected. ( Well one of them xD) But yah They are nice xD
OMG this helped sooo much i just had practice today and i got 2 rips but im just gonna try it tmorrow u really motolvated me btw k just hav problems flippin my wrists cuz it hurts anyways thaannkss:-)
Hi! It's me...again. So today I FINALLY got my kip, YAY!! The only thing is right after when i was going to do another one, I got this really big rip. Do you have any advice to avoid rips, make them heal faster, or make them hurt less when you go on bar?? Thanks, the video helped!
Hi! I'm having trouble with my kip. I am just starting IO and I'm really nervous for the season to start because I don't have my kip. What I do is while I'm still "sliding" the bar up my legs my back/body is already trying to swing up and around the bar. I don't know why I do this, I just kind of do it naturally. Do you have any advice for me?? Also great video and you're really good!
I have some questions.. what's the name of your workout in this vid at 8:51~9:05 ? is that called giant? and for that workout do i need straps? I think you are wearing gymnast's wrist protector..but I saw who grab strap and do that giant. that seems more safe
I have a huge important question....I'm 15 and I really really want to be in gymnastics and I'm 5'5 ft already. Am I too old and too tall to start learning??? Please answer, thank you :)
Hi Meggin! im a level 4 gymnast because the USG gymnastics pulled the levels down. I have my kip already and have had it for 6 months but i can't always get my arms to be straight the whole way up. Have any advice?
i have the same exact problem! Maybe you should practice a lot and do lots of shoulder conditioning. I'm working hard to have straight arms throughout the whole kip!
I really want to get my kip but I have troubles working my stomach muscles! Whenever I do conditioning like v-ups, sit-ups or crunches my back hurts instead. I've found a couple of exercises that have gotten my upper abs stronger but my lower abs still feel quite weak. I can't keep my legs at the bar when I'm trying the actual kipping part. It's getting really frustrating. Any tips?
I can run into my kip, but whenever I try my glide kip I don't have enough power so I end up whipping my legs up to get more power. But I end up struggling and then falling off the bar. I need help please comment tips!!
Meagan plz respond to this how high should I have the bar to do a kip if I am five feet tall the bar will go between three and five feet tall plz respond
I can do half the glide, but my feet go down and hit the floor, but I can still get my feet to the bar and half push up. How is that possible as the feet only brush and don't stop me completely , so I can still kinda get up lol
When your doing a kip its like your pulling your hips to the bar bum swings back pike or stardlle to bar and try using all strenth pulling hips to the bar im also a gymnastics coach
