Awesome how you converted the test results into torque in ft. lbs. All of those tested better than I would have expected.. with the exception of the rearview mirror adhesive. I remember the days,..when you'd go out to your car, and the rearview mirror would be laying on the floor. Those were heavy mirrors, that took allot of torque to adjust, subjected to all kinds of extremes, impressive how well that adhesive worked. I always shied away from the 5-minute stuff, in favor of traditional gray JB Weld,--overnight cure, ( ..machine shop in a tube.) ..Would have been interesting seeing them bonded to 1/4 inch glass. ..Great work, very inventive test setup. I ended up using the 5-minute JB Weld for my application,, because I needed a clear adhesive....you roughed up the metal, so i did to, and you did an acetone clean, so i did too. ..You know the old saying, 'You can't argue with results.'👍

I didn't see no Hot glue, or spray adhesive.. I've seen small pieces of glass & glass types held on by the corners with hot glue. Also if you take bi carbonate & mix it into super glue it becomes a solid similar too Epoxy it takes some getting use to though, but if your in a pinch & have nothing else its gunna get the job done. 8:33 Its interesting i wonder if gorrilla glue has changed over the years? When i was like 12-13 (I'm 34) i ran into gorilla glue at a friends & we ended up gluing his uncles tire you the concrete we didn't use that much but it was funny & took awhile to loosen, & break free. Which is why i wonder if the materials its used on maters? or if they just changed it over the years? However you are supposed to damper the surface for the strongest bond & a few other things. Back then they only had one type of gurrilla glue though, so i guess it could be a whole different kind?

Urethane is really very sensitive to moisture on the surfaces. I work in production for urethane bonding of medical devices. We always heated the plastic parts to 150 F before bonding. We also let them cool before bonding and then immediately bonded at room temperature. IF wd did not do this especially in the humid summers, bubbles would form at the glue joint

Doubt water would have much effect on any of them as they're all solvent based. UV exposure on the other hand would definitely take it's toll after a while.

Do you think the salt air is a double whammy with UV? I do know a lot of the fishermen around here like West systems and J-B Weld products. I don't think the water affects the epoxy as much as undermining the metal and gets in between weakens the bond

Thank you for the video a lot of great info. I hope you don't mind my comment. I work in the glass industry and I can tell you that glass has two different sides. A Tin side and a score side. Things Bond better to the score side. It probably wouldn't matter a great deal for a glue test but it would be interesting to know if you kept up with the sides as you cut your glass blanks.
@aaronstestlab

Huh, interesting. Learn something new every day. I actually wouldn't even know how to tell the difference between the two sides.
@jugajones
@jugajones 5 лет назад
@@aaronstestlab when the glass is first cut after manufacturing you can tell by looking at the edge. after it's cut into smaller pieces you have to have a small UV light. the score side will look more clear under the light the tin side will put a glow out around the light. Not real important for Architectural Glass, very important when making a mirror.

I have been working in glueing a glass table top to a fastener made of metal that sits in the middle of the glass to screw it down on the stand. It came off and so , I bought some gorilla glue if all sorts, hot glue made from gorilla , some E6000 , and gorilla epoxyy and gorilla glue for glass and metal. I first tried a mixture of all the glues together, it didn't set right and I made a mistake of screwing the top on before it set long enough, so I tried just the E6000 , it didn't set right came apart after a day and a half of hardening. I then tried the gorilla epoxy , it was messy but it's holding better after 48 hrs. If it comes apart I am going to the hot glue.
