this is like the number 1 thing my mixes were lacking, I always wondered "WHY THE FUCK does the kick sound so throat hitting, but so small for some reason, it's like it powerful and not powerful at the same time" and this is not just for tech house, every single professional mixing engineer does this I'm 100% sure every big labels sounds so nicely glued together, thank you zen, I saw this before but I had to come back
Yo Zen, do you know what kind of kicks are used by doorn records producers? For example well the obvious one Sander Van Doorn, Bottai, David Tort and some other non doorn producers like Mastrovita and Funkin Matt. I notice my kicks just don't sound as tight as theirs, too bassy in most cases and I can't seem to get around it. Mostly actually my kick doesn't sound throat hitting as for example the one you have in your track, it's probably a mixing issue for me also, not just a sample choice. Also if you need new ideas I would love a full tutorial on how to make and mix a Doorn Records type track, I would call the genres there future trance, I know you love trance so you might find it interesting. Thanks! EDIT: well, watched the video through the end, I really hear the difference, that's the thing I was looking for lol
@@yago8672 Dude, when I started making Psytrance he released Psytrance tutorials, right now I'm doing Tech House and he's mostly doing Tech House. He's obviously stalking...
UH, I'm Due For a Haircut, hairy BaCK! Don't Fack wITH mY 8 bars,,.... Cool trick Learned from another yOUTUBE VIDEO That I made for this youtube video so you can watch it on youtube
Can you make a video about how to be creative while making a Tech House? So I mean, I create drums and groove, but I have difficulties in the creativity part.
hey professor zen, I saw the way you use side chain or lfo tool for the sub bass part. There is actually an issue always happens to me when I tried to mix them. Basically, if i don't use a heavy( straight curve) volume reduction in lfo or any kinds of a compressor sidechian( DOESNT MATTER THE RATIO OR THRESHOLD), the sub bass still fight with the sub of the kick. What do you do with it? This brings the second question. Whats your way to actually tell if the sub bass and the sub bass of kick are clashing or not well mixed? Usually I trust my meter. If the sub freqeuncy is not sustaining, that means they are not mixed properly.
Anyone using Cubase group your kick and bassline together by right clicking (group channels) and use the built in MB compressor with the same config as fabfilter. It translates really well and make a huge improvement for me.
Ok this might not be about edm but can someone please tell me how to level my kick and 808 when making trap? How can I make both fit together. Thank you
I need to tame the transients on my kicks. kinda new to house production (DnB guy) and I keep picking kicks with to much click\smack in the beginning. I should prob not use a transient shaper and just pick different kicks. Weird part is they don't sound that clicks when i just got the kick going... later down the line of making the tune is when i notice it.
That’s Wietse from White Sea Studio. He’s a great audio engineer. OT now: it sounds lovely but isn’t it better to use the mono input from Fabfilter Pro MB?
some people like to wait till the master for multiband mono work, but I hear you... i see people go both ways. the way he did it retains the stereo field that might be in the kicks very top end.
32 GIGS OF RAM 2 TB Highest CPU Highest GPU I could get. PRICEY but if I want for a PC Counterpart then I wouldn't be able to write off more! PC Or MAC all the same I got the mac as a way to prevent me from clogging up my computer with games as well.
I rock the PC at home, Mac on the go. My PC is loaded with shit though (plug-in's from like everywhere, legacy shit, etc.). The Mac is all streamlined and minimal. was i in this convo? i'll walk my way out
Looks way better when I don't run the camera with a higher shutter speed as I need better lighting. Also someone advised me to stay to 30p so it doesn't LOOK JITTERRY
Depends really on the type of track you use it on. For anything sustained this works as 100% of the time there are no dynamics to a sustained Bass. Keep in mind as well that PRO MB isn't running an actual 0 ATTACK MS, it uses an algorithm and dependent on your percentage of attack/release inputted it will adapt to your music. Can't really comment much how it works as they don't reveal that. All the best Luc and do what works best for you.
@@ZenWorld I mean obviously you couldn't really get every band's attack and release right in the time this video took to really get it pumping, but just hearing the end result is a bit underwhelming as the kind of tight groove the kick and bass had before was all lost
