Grafting season is here. This graft was done August 2020 in Southern California Zone 10a / 10b. I grafted a 3 month old avocado tree in a 1 gallon container. The scion came from a mature, 7 year old Reed avocado tree.
This video is not sponsored by the companies that make the following products. I do really like their products, though.

I watched so many grafting videos, This is far the best detailed info. Best of all you’re showing the result after several weeks. Some people may not agree grafting with young tree in container but what not to agree if you have successful result.

Great to watch your video and confirm that I didn't rush it when I grafted onto 1-2-month-old seedlings. I even tried my hand by grafting two thinner scions into a single cleft of a 1-year-old seedling. Holding my breath on that one. One thing I would recommend is to use aluminum foil, shiny side out, around the scion to reflect any unwanted hard light. Might be useful to those of us who can't store the seedling-graft in total shade.

@AJTheGraftMan
@AJTheGraftMan 3 года назад
Generally it takes two to three weeks to show signs of take, but it can take longer than that. If your scion is still green then it’s still alive. Look for swelling buds, buds that look like they’re about to push new leaves. That swelling is an indicator that the graft is starting to take

Hi I like to know its take for how long to blossom after grafting.

Depends when the graft is done. It will bloom on the next bloom cycle. I did this graft in August and it will begin flowering in April

I love this! Thank you for positing! I have a question, you mentioned you left it outside in the shade.... did it cold at nights where you are at? I just grafted 6 plants in a pot (grafted on 2/14/2021)- but I’m unsure if I should leave them inside next to a window - with morning sun (I can lower the blinds to filter out the sun) or if I should put them outside (in the shade). It’s still kind of chilly in the Bay Area (CA), but I just wanted to get your insight?

Thanks! Yes it’s chilly here too. Leaving them inside next to the window is a great idea. I would lower the blinds so direct sun doesn’t hit them. Filtered sun is fine. Good luck!

Great video, thanks for posting! What soil mix you have in the pot, how is it amended while the graft is kept in the pot. I assume well train and lightly moist to the touch? Please describe the soil conditions while this graft grows in container.

Hello! Thanks for this video! I was able to get a stem from my grandfathers older reed avocado tree. The branch I got has a ton of buds that you referred to in this video. I was wondering if I could graft it and create sort of an offspring from my grandfathers tree. It would mean so much! Any advice would be helpful thank you!

Yes you can graft that branch onto another avocado tree! If the graft takes, then you have a copy of your grandpa’s tree
