Reasons why we learn better with these videos than school: 1. State of mind: when you are learning from one of these videos, you really want to study. Not like in school when you really wanted to do something else but are just forced to be in class. This is a big factor that makes the difference. Also, we watch these videos because we didn't understand something or anything in class. That means we have gone over the topic at least once already. And even if you didn't understand, it makes a big difference. 2. Focus: Of course, when you want to study, you focus better. And then you are likely watching these videos alone, which contributes to the perfect study atmosphere. 3. The Teacher: This tutor here is much more skilled at his job- he knows what we want to know, and if you notice, he never simply skips over the calculation or breaking down part. He knows some people might not understand how drastic transformations in equations take place. Or some of us might not be so good at calculating. And these things help to cement the main concept too. Plus the fact he gives really great examples add a lot to these videos. It makes up for some bit of self-study we often miss. Plus he is much more motivated than a lot of teachers at school, who have to attend classes after classes of bored, uninterested students, do way more work than they should (most of which is often unrelated to their core job of teaching), and end up not getting can't respect for the effort they put in. This is a big factor for why teachers seem to hate us and make lessons hard. They don't get the good frame of mind one needs to work.

MP12 Thanks. This helps understand why so many students seem to learn better from RU-vid videos. I imagine if a teacher has several classes per day on the same topic, it can become pretty boring very quickly. It must take a special teacher to stay motivated through the years. Maybe the most talented leave to do something else, which means kids could end up with the less talented teachers. It could be worse. Imagine going to school before RU-vid.

@@finestpix Yeah. Imagine teaching "(a=b)^2+a^2+2ab+b^2 frickin 8 times a day. I give up on the second attempt with my sis, who is smart but can't understand things sometimes.

I've literally stopped paying attention in math class, it's at the point where I just wait till I get home to learn on youtube how to do this stuff. Most teachers have this gift of extremely overcomplicating everything they teach. There's no reason that I should learn more in 2 minutes than something that a teacher taught for an hour but made no sense.

Actually, it should be closer to 1.4 because a tenth (0.1) of an hour is 6 minutes (60/10=6). 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 59 seconds is close to 1 hour 24 minutes, which is 1 hour and 4x6 minutes. 6 minutes is 0.1 of an hour, therefore 1 hour 24 minutes is 1+(4x0.1) which is 1.4 hours.
