Great Help ! never took mine apart like that, i have HS928 , apx 12 yrs old.. now that you showed how easy it is to remove, ill go ahead and service it ! Thank You so much! love your channel!
@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311
Thanks. when i first learned this I also could not believe how easy it was to remove augers and impeller. I do this also if i am installing an impeller kit . kill two birds with one stone.

12 yrs old? You're ripe to replace belts and the impeller bearing, unfortunately much harder.

When doing this it might be a good time to change the gear box oil. Thanks for helping me Anthony.

Very rarely needs changing. but yes, inspect oil. thanks for watching.

Forgive the bubble burst: looking at just the auger area and not doing the much harder inspection of the belt area, including the impeller bearing, after 10 years or so of use, is still asking for trouble. The bearing may be whining and near death but you'd need a good ear to notice. I've had my HS828 for over 25 years. Stored indoors, never removed the augers off of the front shaft as shown, but have done/serviced belts AND THE OVERSTRESSED impeller bearing hiding behind the auger housing a few times, with dread and a floor jack (optional) to assist on reinstall. Yes, the side auger bearings shown here can last maybe 20 years, the stress(load,force) on them is minimal and the speed of rotation is much slower (auger speed reduced by front gearbox, while the impeller speed goes full speed). The potential rust between augers and front shaft will not affect performance or life of any part until you hit a rock, obstruction and the shear pin wants to break, THEN a frozen shaft will either break rust free in that split second, or cause the awful break you've shown. I just bought a used HS928 for a friend and took them both apart for belt and bearing maint this month. Both needed impeller bearing. Read other tutorials warning you to depress the auger's handle lever on reassembly because the odd metal "brake" piece can end up being reinserted wrong, rubbing the inner area of the impeller pulley and throwing sparks and self destructing if you don't realize your invisible, cannot-see mistake. The HS828 and HS928 are nearly identical, same impeller, same belts, same impeller shaft. If you have new belts to install, also order yourself a $15-20 Honda 96150-60040-10 Bearing (6004UU) and a $15-20 (GEARWRENCH top quality, or a lesser/set like WORKPRO) 12mm ratcheting swivel wrench before splitting apart the auger housing, etc as needed to get at the belts and actually replace either the drive belt (stays put during the split) or auger belt (removes itself as you do the split, and very tricky to mate housing and belt correctly on reinstall). However you can inspect belts, not bearing, via the inspection cover with four 10mm-head 6mm bolts to remove then lift cover up to see). Hope this helps, respect to all efforts to educate others.

I have a 2003 HS928 with a worn auger. I picked up an 828 with a mint auger, minus rust that I'm gonna use on my 928. The augers on the 828 are rusted solid. it was kept outside. I've had it soaking with PB blaster for days and still nothing. Might try putting the auger back in and prying it with a 2x4. Really getting old now. ugh
@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311
@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311 10 месяцев назад
good idea. sometimes it can take awhile. one time it took 2 months. i know you cant wait that long. if the 828 augers can not be reused I have cut them off with a cutting wheel so I can use good augers in their place.

Do you wedge the augers with wood in order to get the two 12mm bolts off the shaft ends? My augers spin and the bolts are tight as heck. TY
@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311
@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311 9 месяцев назад
That's a good idea. if it hasnt been service for years I apply anti seize grease to all bolts to help remove next time. thanks for watching.

Great video. Anyone know where I can buy Anti-sieze graphite spray dry film lube in CA or online (pls share link)? I see the Moly lube on Amazon and the Blaster brand. Any thoughts on those? Thanks in advance

Will a brand new HSS928CTD need to be lubricate before its first winter ?
@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311
good idea. a couple squirts and you will be good to go. also inspect the whole machine and make sure anything that moves is lubricated. Tighten stuff up if needed. The dealer should have done everything but I like to check out everything before you need your Honda. thanks.

Thank you very much @@HondaSnowblowerEnthusiasts311 ! I will sure follow your suggestion. The dealer did a pretty good job at lubricating everything that has to be. This is my second Honda snowblower. I had the first one for 16 years and I exchanged it for a new one cause it still had a pretty good exchanging value. I am 67 yrs old and I intend to blow snow with my new Honda until I am 100. I love your channel which will help me reach my goal.

You think Honda will discontinue their snowblowers in the future? They did mowers and single stage so far
@dougmildram3032
@dougmildram3032 10 месяцев назад
I would think not (be discontinued), but they have already gone down the road of bad engineering, adding a joystick and electronics?/actuator? for chute control, which is likely to fail, while the good old manual chute mechanism will last forever if you maintain it (check the three 8mm bolts with 12mm heads, they can come loose and disappear, if still there remove all three and clean and grease/anti seize the big round area after pulling up/off to remove chute. Oh yeah, also first need 12mm wrench to remove the gear+shaft from the chute bracket if you're ready to lube the entire circle and the plastic piece that probably stays stuck to the chute when removed, this gasket-like plastic rotates on the grease you apply to the circle.
@appleztooranges
@appleztooranges 10 месяцев назад
@@dougmildram3032 but the new machines have auto turn. The old ones (which I owned 2 models) have no steering and was a bear to move around during storms. I guess you have to pick your poison here!
