Great video. I have had my Echo straight shaft for over 8 years and have only once removed the bolt at the end and put high temp grease in it a few years ago. Love my echo

first time viewer, enjoyed the video. Very informative, thorough, much appreciated. I have a Husqvarna trimmer that I cannot find information like you give for Echo, but I believe I now know what to do for mine. Nothing is broken, just inherited a used trimmer and want to perform maintenance for a good starting point. Thanks again !!

I was handed down an older SRM-225 that was in immaculate condition. Looks like they hand washed it after each use LOL. Previous owner said it always started up with no issues. It had been stored with gas in it so I changed the spark plug, carburator, fuel lines, air filter etc. Fresh premium gas mixed with Echo oil and it starts up and gear spins up fast at first but then slows down to to a super slow spin. I've ordered a clutch and just finished greasing the gear head and drive cable. Thanks for the informative video.

All straight shaft are left hand thread on the head. And visa versa on the curved shaft.

I own the Echo PAS 2620 straight shaft trimmer and edger attachment. I greased mine after 2 years with the Echo Red Armor grease. I actually didn't need to as there was quite a bit of grease from the factory.

Good video! I have a very old Husqvarna L125 and sad to say I have never greased it, lol. I think I will now that I’ve watched your video. It is so old I can get a speed feed to fit it. The head I have on it I had a guy at the local shop press the bushing out of the old head and press it in to the new one so that it would fit, lol

I use a 60ml syringe and load some Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease in it and squirt it in. $10 for a pound at Advance Auto. Works for me. BTW, 15ml is 1/2oz and you must have used 2oz. Not sure if more is better.

Excellent video, thanks for all the work you do to share this stuff. I wonder how much grease you ended up squeezing into the head at 15:08? It probably doesn' take much because, unless the head was low in grease to begin with, there's really no place for the old grease to get out......
@GwinnettLawns

Maybe 1/4 of an ounce.

I checked mine after 4-5 years and pushed a toothpick into the cavity, it was still full and a light grey color. The red Armor grease looks soft & tacky, kinda like Lucus.
@davidgeorge8172
@davidgeorge8172 3 месяца назад
FYI. The head has a "left hand" thread NOT a "right hand" thread, meaning you tighten it by turning it to the left or counterclockwise. So, to loosen or remove anything with a "left hand" thread, you turn it to the right or clockwise.

I have echo SRM-210 and about 1-1/2 yrs ago took it in to get new shaft assembly because inexperienced helper bent entire shaft. Now I am trying to grease drive cable but it has plastic retainers both ends and will not come out! Can I break/remove plastic retainer on engine end and not create another problem? Tried to attach phone but couldn't

Nice explanation and well demonstrated. The problem I'm having on my SRM 210 is that I have the two bolts loose but cannot back out that screw to get the head off. Just can't get enough Torq to knock it loose. Any suggestions...

Clean out the bolt holes really well I mean really well and then get you any kind of quarter inch impact whether it be DeWalt Milwaukee or something else and give it a tap with that because the last thing you want to do is strip them bolts out

Its been mentioned to put motor oil in the sparkplug hole befor putting the trimmer away for longer time,is motor oil the same as the oil i put in the gas? Thanks for the teaching! I am a home owner.

I just looked it up in my manual..."For storage longer than 30 days...pour 7cc(0.25 oz) of fresh, clean, two-stroke engine oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole." In Florida we never really have to this...almost year round use.
@Ricky-eo5ym

You can also spray in engine storage oil it's a lot tackier.

If only my 2022 SRM-225 had a grease fitting on the gear head. Newer units do not. Mine is already overheating and making a low growl after a few minutes. Warranty time.

If it’s out of warranty, just drill one into the case and put a bolt on it - the same way the factory did it when they made the old ones.
