He is selling. If he can teach you a little bit now and get you shooting better then wanting more... HEY he teaches classes! They're expensive so he can afford to give this away plus he needs you to really want to be better to buy his class and perform well in it. Then you recommend the class to the guys you've been shooting with. They see your improvement from the class and want to train also. Capitalism really does work friend.
@@fuhq5121 you must not have watched many of John's videos if you think he is just giving tidbits to entice or hook people into taking his classes. I don't know him personally, but from what I gather he is a godly man who lives a Christ-centered life. I believe that, like Jesus, John wants everyone to serve and protect the helpless, poor and needy. So he tries to be the best godly example he can be for people like us. Watch some of the videos where he and his wife interact with each other. John is leading you and me by example. They appear to have a very solid loving relationship and seem to enjoy being around each other. That's what a relationship with Jesus can do for a man and his marriage. He doesn't need to trick or entice any of us to participate in his classes. If you've ever tried to get into one of his classes you would know it's nearly impossible. They are filled up way into next year. Therefore, you can safely take his words at face value without wondering if there is an underlying agenda. Enjoy your teachings and videos John. Keep up the fantastic work!
I appreciate you bringing all this content on your channel free of charge. I look forward to a class or two in the future either there or in Camden. Thanks for you and your family's sacrifices and service on behalf of my family and the country. It has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. We are humbled.
Man I swear, I watch these videos, then I dry practice and when I go to the range, it’s like night and day, so much better and have more fun doing it. Thank you 👍
Thanks I watched this video Thursday practiced the thumbs forward and all. And I instantly noticed after 70 rounds I got all with the numbers on the ccw chart or similar target the upper torso target at 7 yards . So I would have passed qualified at the 7 yards. Thanks so much. I turned on my buddies to this video and your channel I subscribed also By the way nice apologetics on the God and guns videos
Out of all the videos and people I've talked to and shot with.. I've learned, without a single doubt 100 times more VALUABLE and truly USEFUL information from your videos then any flat range instructor has ever given me the time of day over.
Thanks again John. This really helped my wife. She benefits greatly from your clarity, articulation and examples and we love watching your channel together. We appreciate that you've dedicated your life to keeping families safe.
I appreciate the explanation of the mechanics that you incorporate. I have always found it easier to remember "what" I was supposed to do if I understood "why" I was supposed to do it.
Harrel sux, mate go Primary&Secondary to reach quality and objectively superior content, John works with guys from there too, Harrel seriously is half good advice, half fudd, I personaly prefer not to have to sift through bs in this type of themes, like selfdef etc. Also Harrels viewers act like fanatical cultists on several occasions.
I've looked at tons of videos and read dozens of articles, but never really "got" how hard to grip with my support hand, how high up, far back, etc. It wasn't terrible. I got the fundamentals of being high up on the pistol with a firm grip, strong support hand, thumbs forward, but something was missing. The way you broke down the support hand part in this video made it finally click for me. I dry fired hundreds of times with that new knowledge and finally took that skill to the range today. Compared with my last range session, my groups got noticeably tighter and my recoil management was much better. I also made some good progress on my shot anticipation by focusing on tracking the front during recoil which was made much easier with this grip. Thanks a million, John!
I have to say there are some things in some of your videos I dont agree with and "that's ok" but even though I don't agree it's still eye opening. And I really have a lot of admiration for you putting some of your training content up for new and experienced shooters. I'm honestly shocked you dont have a bigger following. I also like the fact that the channel is based around firearms defense but goes into much broader topics and some even unrelated. The world needs more ppl preaching firearms, proven tactics, and old fashioned ways. Keep up the content even if the internet doesn't agree!
This was the best tutorial on proper grip that I've ever seen, and your economy with time in presenting it was impressive. I see many at the range writing off muzzle flip and recoil as unpleasant gun dynamics when it's really bent arms and low bracing hand placement. Kudos!
I just found your channel recently thanks to James Yeager, but you explain the how's and why's of even the basic things so incredibly well that an advanced shooter or a novice shooter could understand it completely.
You are legitimately one of the best firearms instructors I have come across. Your reaction time in the beginning of the video is ridiculously fast. I cannot imagine getting in to a gun battle with you. I guarantee that you would be able unload a full magazine on target before I was able to get my first shot off. I have alot of practice ahead of me.
Mate, you're amazing. I don't usually comment on RU-vid. I had an assessment today, wasn't doing well yesterday during practice. I was stressing about it. Watched your video last night and made the adjustment in my grip, I smashed it today. Thanks a ton. I've subscribed to your channel. Thanks once again.
BAck in the early days of Ipsc, people were teaching this grip. A lot of people got the importance of pressure wrong and were squeezing in with thumbs and interfering with slide operation and causing feed issues. Nice to see you got it right here. The off hand position is about alignment with recoil and not about "grip power"
Very informative. I understood before how to properly grip a pistol, but I did not know why. Knowing why is very important, thank you for the information
John, I have been a Police Rangemaster for over 20 years . Your explanation and ability to break down the ergonomics and physics of the how and why of grip is beyond anything I seen. I hope you don't mind if I use your explanation in my teaching and I will of course give credit to you ... outstanding video !!!
JOHN THANK YOU!!! I actually took my gun unloaded of course..lol and stood their watching your video fixed my hand grip & foot placement . Went to the shooting range the following day & Applied what I have learned. My shooting improved TREMENDOUSLY... NOW!!! 😎I want to take your classes! Thanks again..
Thank you. As I have approached 70 with shoulder injuries a long recovery I lost the ability to execute controlled pairs or more. I had to search for the sights between shots. I will try this.
The method for clearly demonstrating the advantage of the grip using only the support hand was outstanding! Helping make me a better instructor. Much appreciated. NVCFI#293
John, we have never met and I have not seen this video before today, but this is nearly exactly how I teach grip as well! I am sharing this on my training group page.
I’m so glad I found your channel, I served from 02 to 06 but hadn’t touched a weapon since. I recently utilized my 2A right and purchased my first handgun. Mostly going off of most likely outdated and fuzzy military training your videos have been very helpful. Thank you for taking time to be thorough and clear in your pro tips.
I am really enjoying this channel. The tack you're taking regarding firearms instruction and preparedness is unique and appreciated. I have subscribed to two You Tube channels in my life, this one and Alpha & Omega Ministries. I've been firing handguns for near fifteen years and nobody has ever explained grip technique to me as clearly and logically. Great job sir, keep up the good work. I'll be looking to take a rifle class from you as soon as I can afford it! Blessings.
I know this a an older video and I hate that I'm just seeing it but thank you!! This solved my low right and stabilized muzzle and the firearm does not move at all anymore. Thanks!!
New gun owner here. I love the demonstrations in this video. I took my permit class over a year ago and recently got my permit and a firearm, and this video provided a completely different but extremely well-taken explanation on proper pistol grip.
The support hand test/demo starting at 2:36 is excellent. Being able to rack the slide while holding it with just your support hand grip is very revealing to how firm the support hand really needs to be. It's a bit of a simple workout to grip it support hand only style like this and simply rack the slide over and over for a few minutes.
Wish I had you as my small arms instructor, your so engaged and thorough in your training sessions. You could definetely be a buds instructor. I've seen worse that just like to yell as close to your face as possible so they know your wrong but not explain much of a more correct way. Some definitely get a little too obsessed and excited by degrading young men. Like they say though, first you have to be nothing to become something. Break you, then remold you into a "punisher". Great work man!
Watching this in the middle of my range time! I’ve watched it at least twice in the past. Thanks so much! I’m a tiny girl with a Glock 26 gen 4 and that grip hurts but it’s amazing what happens when I grip it more firmly.
I've been using the classic Weaver grip my entire life. It's been _very_ difficult to overcome that muscle memory, but after watching this demonstration I now understand that I _have_ to do it.
You, sir, are an incredible instructor. I feel like watching your videos is actually a disservice, because how well you explain stuff might make some people feel they don't need classes. Any oregon visits?
A coworker of mine showed me the thumbs forward grip and my accuracy improved dramatically! I think with your information and more practice I will be so much better!!!
New shooter and I'm fighting the low and left deal. I like what you showed us here and in one of your other videos (more recent) you show the push forward that basically tilts the top of the pistol a little to the right. Trying these on my next range visit. Thanks
I really enjoy your videos! Funny and informative! Even though I've been through a lot of the training before when I was in the military, I always see something in your videos that re-iterates things I've learned or they just bring back good and sometimes tough memories. So, thank you for that. Keep up the great work.
Another good video and tutorial. I'm going to start holding/shooting this way at the range tonight. You might have called ol' JT a failure at life one too many times though. The last one he looked at you like "yeah sure @55**l3". Crazy to see how far you have come and progressed since this dropped some 6 or more years ago. Thanks for all your great content.
Tip: I watch these videos while actually AT the range so I can practice these techniques in real time. Edit: changed protip to just tip. Because I'm not a pro, and I just wanna leave the tip.
@@timothyripley4175 If buy 2 hours, they're my two hours. Besides theres never been a capacity problem at my home range. So I dont have to be that guy.
@@cameronoquinn94 I've stopped going to my ranges because people there were more focused on taking pics or vids. All them have 1 hour lanes and usually waiting. It's just funny cuz to me because watching then at the range isn't really a pro tip
★★★★★The more of your videos I watch, the more excited I get about taking a class. A pistol course with John Lovell has definitely moved up on my bucket list.
couldn't agree more. Don't know how I'm going to talk my wife into a training trip to Georgia over our current bucket list of places abroad. I think I'll pitch to her we do every other trip a training trip and every other trip a vacation abroad. Wish me luck.
