Just clip the one side of the seed till you reach the white layer soak for 20 minutes then place into a damp cloth put in the lunch box for 2 days and youl find roots .....living in botswana that's how I root my seeds and it easy and works like magic ....no need to soak for days

I had one growing up to a foot high in a pot, indoors, but it lost all it's leaves later in the year. I'm guessin dormancy. I thought it had died but maybe not darn it! Is it possible they can loose all the leaves but then regrow in the spring of the year?
@DaveTheHillsideGardener
@DaveTheHillsideGardener 5 месяцев назад
@2liter8 yes mine did the same
@Tony.795
@Tony.795 4 месяца назад
@@2liter8 I would say that this is even preferable. That way you can put it on a cool spot that doesn't need to be bright and you don't have to water it. You also don't have to worry about leggy growth due to lack of light.

If you can get hold of the fruit then soaking the seeds with the pulp itself softens the hard shell and can be peeled easily. Just my two cents
@DaveTheHillsideGardener
@DaveTheHillsideGardener Год назад
That’s a good idea. I’ve never been able to get a whole fruit before but it sounds like that would mimic a natural event of a grassfire. Thanks for sharing
@prabal19
@prabal19 Год назад
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener yes it actually also mimics the process when the fruit is eaten by elephant and is digested in its gastrointestinal system along with the pulp which is acidic, helping soften the hard shell and later with rain and sun germinating it outside.

Don't do this just soak seeds in boiling water leave in the water for 24 to 48 hours plant in soil. I did this and had almost 100% germination. I had seeds from Kimberley Western Australia.

Great video👍🏻 Had 6 trees myself, out of 100seeds. Used the sandpaper methods, used the boiling water methods. In summary I have to say growing Baobab from seed is like a self-fulfilment especially when you look at your trees keep growing new leaves and getting taller everyday😊
@DaveTheHillsideGardener

They are difficult to germinate for sure and even more difficult to keep alive but like you said it’s so cool to watch them grow

@cammi9948 I would think temperature may be an issue. Do you have a heat pad for them? Some seeds need a cold period too in order to break dormancy. If you have several seeds maybe try different methods and see what works ? Sorry I couldn’t be more help.

It’s a tree that will store water for long periods of drought. But it’s not a cactus. It does need plenty of sun and moister to thrive. In winter it will go dormant and drop all of its leaves. Mine is just starting to put on new growth this spring.

Hello. How to grow them after they get leaves out ? How much watering ?
@DaveTheHillsideGardener
@DaveTheHillsideGardener 9 месяцев назад
I just let it dry out then water again. They are succulent in nature and can store water pretty well. In the winter just don’t water at all and let it go dormant and lose its leaves and in spring add some water and it will start to grow again.

@@DaveTheHillsideGardenerif you do go in winter. Brutally hot up where they grow even in mid winter. I'm germinating a bunch of them at the moment. Quick soak with really hot water and they seem to geminate well. Queensland has a bottle tree which has some similarities although normally its a lot smaller and is frost tolerant.
