83 yo here. I am growing the 5th beard of my life. Grew my first when 23 yo. I have not been clean shaven since May 1993. I began to let it grow for a yeard in October 2017. The beard has grown untrimmed now for 27 months. It now measures just over 16 inches.
1.let it grow 2.have a goal (like a stubble , long mustache or any of your choice) 3.don't mind neckline or cheekbone 4. diet , exercise and drink more water 5.take your vitamins (b vitamins and biotin) 6.use the right tool
I do have to say, I keep seeing videos where people say there are days where it’s tough, but as far as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed every process of growing my beard out. It really wasn’t until about 6 months that my beard felt solid and full though.
@@ahmedrahim2500 It is that easy if you can grow a full beard. If you can't grow a full beard, it's impossible. In other words, you can either grow a beard or you can't. If your beard is patchy after 7 months, then you fall into the "can't" category. You can Donald Trump your way into full coverage, but it'll be a farse. Short of using Rogain or something, there's no way to make hair grow where it doesn't already grow naturally.
I watched this vid the day it was out. I haven't shaved since April 22, 2017. I'm at 13". I receive positive comments on how thick it looks everyday... Thanks for the inspiration...Let it grow...👊👍
Bad beard day got me once.. Instantly regretted cutting my beard. Almost a foot long in a year and all gone in 60 secs. Wait a few days if you get the urge to shave it. I am 2 months back in and starting to realise I have testicles again. Going from "Hey dude, great beard" and woman asking to touch you beard all the time, to just blending in... sucks. Keep Calm and Beard On.
Same here.....Was 8 months in and my beard was almost perfect....For some reason or another I went I'm my bathroom and shaved all off...It looked like a fresh shaved...Well you know what I'm gettin at...Never again almost 2 months in and I'm not lookin back....Fear The Beard!!!
I’ve been growing a beard during lockdown. It’s a whole new world to me but I’m getting to like the look and feeling after five weeks. Thanks for the video.
After caving to my wife’s pressure my beard was prematurely removed from my face in 2018...Covid19 has forced me into quarantine...Quarantine isolation beard time
First month into growing my beard. Patience is key.... Waiting for great results in the upcoming months! Been switching around from castor, almond to argan oils too....
+richy12377 so good! I've noticed a big change after I started doing maintenance trims to get rid of split ends. What beard shampoo/beard oil do you use?
How to Grow a Beard: Step 1: When the plane hits the sea, inflate your life jacket when outside. Step 2: Pass out and wake up on a remote island. Step 3: Survive for 10 years and befriend a ball called Wilson. Step 4: Scream "Wiiiilllssssoooonnnn!!" Step 5: Find a way onto a rescue boat and make your way home Step 6: Pop into the bathroom and look in the mirror. Just like that, you will have a beard. Simple and easy.
Wide tooth wood comb is a must. When it's longer I've started using a wooden bristle brush which works even better than the "ouch less" brushes. And yes, for your own good, don't shave half of your beard off by using your jaw line as your neck line. Just let it be! Great video!
+A Bomb I love my wide tooth comb! What bristle brush do you use? I'm not sure I've seen one. My beard is getting long enough that I'm having trouble finding brushes/combs that won't pull it too much.
+John Murphy glad you asked. I too got that point where it became a mission to find a comb/brush to minimize hair loss from pulling, tugging, snagging. I've gotten them mostly from amazon. Check out 1)Breezlike wooden comb(amazon)or 2)Nicetomeetus wood comb(amazon). For the brush, try 1)Badass Beardcare(their website)wooden bristle paddle brush or 2)Louise Maelys wooden bristle brush(amazon). Hope that helps. Beards looking good!
don't be afraid to dye it if you have blonde/gray hairs, it's your beard, it isn't unmanly or "fake". You're only enhancing the look of those beautiful hairs.
Yes, but never use hair colour to beard, that's kill and dry your beard. I would be so happy if I get grey hair before I'm 30, because nothing look badass than grey/white beard
At least three days 'Air-Lock' time between urge and clippers - and wait, wait and wait again (.....and wait a little longer). There; the urge has gone. There's nothing sadder than a beard that's ended its life down the pan before its time. And - never compare; - your beard is as individual as your eye-colour. With persistence, procrastination and stubbornness - the beard will arrive and it will be yours.
Good job mate im 2 months into my first beard for the time im 48 always wanted one but could never get past the itchy stage i appreciate your video and advice thanks. 👍
Rumple Von it isn’t a supplement but Walmart, cvs, kirklands, Walgreens. Look it up online and do some research because there are side affects. I don’t get them but some do
I still shave my neckline slightly even tho my beard is over 4" long. Those hairs in the crease of my neck annoy the hell out of me and they have to go. My beard is still thick and dense as is.
Great video and tips. Have a goatee for many years and now I am going for a full beard, on my forth week now. Thanks for all the advice specially the neck line trimming, that is such a pitfall. Also, for the encouragement to be patient and stick to the plan. BTW, your beard looks Great man! Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Vitamins gave me kidney stones a couple of years ago, I didn't need to increase my mineral intake apparently lol, vitamins are eveywhere if you eat well. For the rest I agree with the advices. Cheers.
I’m 58 growing my beard the longest I’ve ever had it !! I’m naturally gray I’m bald on top just the hair on the sides in like seven weeks already ! Got about an inch and a half of growth of gray beard !! My daughter wants me to grow my beard out to play Santa for my three grandchildren I know I’m going to have to bleach my hair white I’m planning on doing that about three days before my birthday November 25 the lady at the salon said it would last about six weeks hopefully taking me into New Year’s then I’m gonna let it grow out naturally after that !! Just got to find a barber or someone to trim my beard up for a Santa beard !!
Well, failure to grow a beard generally tends to be a result of maintenance failure, leading to "needing" to delete the thing and start again. This is most suffered by people who care too much about what they look like. I grew mine because I find spending time at the barbers or in front of the mirror a shameful waste of time, money or both. Same with my hair.
best way to grow your beard for impatient growers...contest! get with a few buddies and put some money in a pot and have a beard contest. no shaving for a year. anyone shaving loses their chance at winning the pot. at the end if there is more than one winner, split it or have a guys night out...losers aren't invited of course. i did this contest and yes i went through ugly stubble fazes and uneven fazes, but when it was over i kept my long beard and had a professional even it out.
Hey man. Great vid! I just subbed I have a problem...always wanted a full on beard and my beard grows fast, however, it only grows to the right. How do I fix this?
Kenston Daniel .... It's because of your taste in music.. One Direction effects the beard. Listen to beard enhancement music such as Seetther, Nirvana, Audioslave, Soundgarden.. RIP Chris Cornell. Changing the man, changes the beard. Good luck slantbeard
awesome tips. honestly one of the realist ive seen...i am 21, have been growing for 5 months as of today. every month i have taken 4 angled pictures not a single trim. i take biotin, i am a welder so my hair gets dirty and use beard wash, oil, and butter. along with a wide tooth wooden comb do you have a email link i can send you the progress and what you think im not impressed with my efforts and being so determained and the little progress i think ive had. the only "cheater" ive done is.... using just for men. to make it look thicker and darker... not proud of it but it helps.
hello sir. sir I want to grow full beard but there is more patch on my beard what can I do to fill the patchiness I am 20 year old my moustache and chin part h proper facial hair but on side face only half Beard come suggest me something that can help me
A Sharp line looks so bad. Personally I don’t like growing out my beard because my beard line is way too low so I look like some Amish dude named Ezekiël.
Depends on type of beard, I have very straight hair beard as opposed to most having curly beard hair. A sharp cheek line looks great on it so don't be bullshitting it looks bad on everything because it doesn't.
so far i have the same problem, my chin is almost empty but under my jaw it grows absolutely thick, makes me look like a isis-terrorist... bad thing is it has not changed since at least 5 months, i´d say. like a 5-months-bad beard day...
Best way to grow a big beard is to not look at yourself in the mirror that’s when you start finding yourself with some scissors ✂️ and start destroying your own beard
Nope shave every other two days with safety razor. Use peppermint oil brush everyday. Thats how new follicles build you get new hairs on face. Thank me later.
I've never made it more than a couple weeks without shaving my facial hair down because I thought it wasn't growing and I didn't think I could grow a beard and I watched this and im now a month in and seeing hair grow and fill in areas I swore I'd never grow hair. I'm now set on letting it go for 3 months. Best advice I ever got was let grow.
There’s more to it, than just not shaving. Make sure you have the genetics for it first, set a goal, & no matter what you do, don’t shave, or trim it until you have reached your goal. Also, beard balm, & beard oil are a must, if you wanna have a healthy looking, & hydrated beard.
I have found that a lot of people who talk about growing a beard don’t have beards, but not this guy he is someone I trusted from the moment I looked at the thumbnail
Patience is definitely key. I have a bald patch that will NOT grow in…at least not as fast as I want. It’s slloooooooowly filling in. Great video, question, does your wife sell her oils?
Hi, I’m new in trying to grow a beard and I wanted to ask. I normally wash my face twice a day with L’Oréal Paris Men Expert hydra sensitive soothing daily face wash, then use L’Oréal men expert Vita Lift anti aging daily moisturizer. All over my face from my forehead to the bottom of my neck... Want to ask when your growing a beard (mine is about a centimeter by now) do you stop using cleansing washes on your facial hair side and moisturizers? You only use beard shampoo and conditioner and beard oil and balm? Meaning from forehead to nose normal cleaning routine and face products and from checks to neck just beard products only? No more moisturizers where beard growth is? Guess beard oil replaces that? Thanks :)
Best advice ever. I've failed numerous times at growing a beard. My biggest mistake was shaving my neckline. It looks so much fuller now that I've just let it fill in with my cheeks. Thanks man!
I never ever thought I would be able to produce a decent looking beard. After reading a lot about beards and watching many instructional videos, I am happy to say I am sporting a yeard, and I am proud of it and happy with it and get many compliments on it. The key to a great beard is the proper tools, good products, and DON'T TRIM. As John Murphy says, put the clippers and scissors away, use beard oil and balm, and have the proper tools. Try it, you'll surprise yourself.
Sweet thanks! Im growing mine out for as long as i can..at the moment i have a beginner's Ragnar Lothrok beard..been so tempted to trim it but now i will leave it to grow😎
I see what appears to be Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon. Good stuff. I prefer Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon. But Blanton's is in my top 5 for sure.
Awesome NC shirt. Also, you're one of the few people I've seen on RU-vid with a very similar beard growth pattern to myself, even the red beard color. Great video, just subscribed.
You just earned a new subscriber! Thank you sir. All these tips aren't for me, as i already have a yeard, but it would be so much more easy for me to get it if there were this kind of videos when i started, so, really a great video for "beard begginers"! Great job sir!

This was exactly helpful brother thanks a lot I’m 4 months into growing my beard and I know exactly what you’re talking about when it comes to bad beard days
Great video....appreciate the health tips, too, as I absolutely agree...32 oz is a great idea to start dsy, and it cures a ton of health woes caused by dehydration. Also, resistance exercises with weights are essential and can and should be done throughout life....builds lean body mass, which helps balance metabolism and produce red blood cells.
I just saw your video, John and I have to say that I totally agree with all that you said! I've done some of the mistakes, that you were talking about (neck-line) and I've learned from them, but it would be so easy for me if I have watched a videos like yours before I do something stupid (like trimming my neck-line)... Regards
I watched another video that said to let it grow for 3 months before deciding to go forward. That rule works for guys like me whose facial hair grows a little slow. Now I'm starting to see a beard forming. Mine is also patchy, which is where your grow it out top works. I trimmed my face a while back and all it does is set you back and make you wait longer. You're right, dont touch it!
Not sure if this is true or not but it works for me, gently pull on it twist it tie it up with rubber bands ect... it stimulates the follicles and helps it grow. I had a yeard back in 2018.
Awesome tips! I am struggling to get mine to grow. I am about 50 and have never been able to grow a beard. I started taking Minoxidil and it is starting to grow! pretty scattered and weird looking, but it is growing. Im pretty psyched. I need to force myself to get through the awkward phase of it.
I want a natural looking beard. So I never shave my neck line or cheeks. I just pluck out the few dark hairs that grow high on my cheeks with tweezers.
