i took your course few cohorts ago and i'm still a tiny channel but still thrilled when i look back at earlier vids and see progress (less shaky footage!) it's def a long game but feel i'm learning so much. reading your book atm thx ali!
I completed the Part-Time RU-vidr Foundation course 3 weeks ago. Followed every piece of advice and started my RU-vid channel. 3 weeks into my channel with 10 subscribers but still making videos because I know consistency is key. I must add, though, that as a beginner, it is hard work😂
I have been following Ali's journey for 3-4 years. After watching Ali's all videos about starting a RU-vid channel, I decided to try it in July 2023. In about 7 months, I have published more than 50 videos and now have more than 10K subscribers. As a professor at a university, I can teach at most 150 students every year, but thanks to my RU-vid channel, I now feel like I have more than 10K students. The size of the impact I create is unbelievable. Thank you Ali!
I have been following Sidika's journey. I have subscribed when you have like 150 subs. I am gonna observe your journey and I hope, I can be succesful like you😊
Thank you Izzy for your advice. I started a channel some years ago, had 300 subscribers after a couple of months and stopped completely because I started being a full time caregiver of my husband. I would like to start another channel, find a different niche and see if I can manage while being a caregiver. Greetings from Uruguay 🇺🇾 😊
"What feels like a ramble to you can genuinely be life-changing advice to someone" This someone, is me. Thank you so much Izzy for your vulnerability, and Ali for using your platform to share her success story!
I don't understand people who write mean messages on people's youtube videos or other social media postings. If I don't like something, I prefer to say nothing. I prefer to spread kindness instead of negativity.
same here. but if you notice that same person keep polluting your channel with negative comments or challenging you in a hostile way, it's better to block him so as not to have him attract other negative people. some channels didn't bother to remove them as can attract views and traffic to their channels 😂 in some social groups, the moment they see any negative comments or attacking other members, they block and ban that person immediately. They want their space negativity free
I struggle with self-consciousness and will sometimes avoid sharing my RU-vid videos on some of my platforms because I suddenly feel like I am "bothering" people or "I am not good enough to do this" or "I will be judged" so it's refreshing to see that other RU-vidrs struggle with similar issues and even more refreshing to see how they have managed to overcome them to a great extent. Thanks for the video!
you can try sharing on the platforms which you use. if a certain platform has more people reacting negatively to your videos, then you can choose not to share on that platform. From my personal experience, the audience on TikTok are more judgmental and critical as compared to the ones on RU-vid. Maybe it's because TikTok originated from short form videos, our videos show up randomly at everyone's feed Regardless of how people react or respond to our videos, it's important for us to stay true to ourselves. Continue being the authentic you, you have something to offer to the world ❤
Ayo! Low subscriber club! I've got 23 myself. Was kind of starting lose hope/ faith. But I'm just starting out and it's slow at first and I'm now trying to psyche myself out and think "if they can do it so can i. It's possible!" Wishing you all so much success and happiness! ❤
From Bangladesh here,🇧🇩🇧🇩 Ali you have been a lifechanger for me. I started writing online thanks to you and today I have grown a freelance business that makes me $1500-$2000 per month. You were my inspiration because you were also a med student and I loved your study related videos. Now I plan to grow my youtube channel as well. I' m sharing the things that I learned in the last 5 years in my freelance journey. Looking forward to making videos like you as well. Wish me luck!
Hey Ali QUICK THOUGHT ! I would like to see you having interview with someone who is realtime beginner. Like I have this inside feeling that youtubers talk to other youtuber that are successful already. Thank you for doing your stuff. It really resonates with me and I'm getting alot of value out of your content . Building my life around fainding the joy in things i do and doubling down when i feel that this is the thing i like more.
Talvez algumas entrevistas, um projeto longo: entrevistar alguém com menos de 30 seguidores; depois de 6 meses e ver como está o andamento do canal, depois de 1 ano, etc. Seria muito interessante ver essa evolução.
I've just started my YT journey and this has been really inspirational to listen to and know that even super successful YTbrs are having the same struggles. Great work!
I totally agree that negative comments say more about the people who make the comments than you! If I don't like something, I just don't watch it but I never bother leaving negative comments or even disliking a video.
@@tomaszzieba315 Let me rephrase that for you, "If I know I'm gonna like the topic or content of a video I just don't watch it". Because believe it or not, a lot of people click on videos with the intention of leaving negative comments just because they didn't like the title. And it's easy for you to say not to read negative comments, but are you a creator? Because as a creator you get a notification for every comment you receive, you can't just filter the negative comments out. Such an ignorant comment.
@cyndriana That's the way of the internet. Yes, I'm a creator on Twitter, and I get negative comments/hate. The ratio matters. If you have a lot it means there's probably something wrong with your content. If you can't stand it, being a creator is not for you. And you can turn off notifications completely. If you are as big as this channel you can hire 10 or more people to remove negative comments.
we have Art 19 of the constitution saying about freedom of speech and expression....if u genuinely loved the vdo leave good comment and like it...but if u didn't like the vdo u have option to dislike it ..there is nothing wrong in it
Your journey, from the struggles of not having parental figures around to finding your own path and proving you could succeed, really struck a chord. It's a powerful reminder that our beginnings don't define us, but our choices and resilience do. Your story is a beacon of hope for anyone facing similar challenges.
About consistency: I found it super interesting how Ali don’t struggle with it but Izzy does. I can relate with Izzy! One factor, that comes to my mind is the female monthly cycles. A woman goes though monthly cycles of changes in energy to hormones. Certain days will be low and others will be filled with energy. A male body works on a daily cycle. It would be super interesting to learn more how that can impact and maybe a slight different approach that women, who feels this, can do. I know some women adjusting their schedule along with their menstrual cycle, example - not scheduling important meetings during first days of period etc. Thanks so much for a great video!! Super insightful!! 😊
@josephine9619 that is definitely something to consider since men have a 24 hour cycle and women mostly 28 days. I have noticed that I can be productive and rest during those days when my body needs it. This is way more aligned with the feminine body & its cyclical nature. It has helped me to stop feeling like I am not getting enough done. The book “The Optimized Woman” by Miranda Grey has been a life changer for me and other women I know. All the best for you! ✨😊
I needed this video - I just published my first real video for my new channel and my comments in my shorts are already only coming from random haters. It's hard to be motivated when the positivity I'm looking for hasn't come my way yet. I appreciate you!
Many golden nuggets here. I grew my channel from 0-50,000 in 6 months mainly from Ali's advice, so just want to say thank you for that! Never heard of Izzy before this video, but you had a great vibe together and a lot of interesting insights
You two were my inspirations to finally silent launch a channel this year. One month in and at 70 subs - I still feel butterflies everytime a new person joins my community. 🦋 It's an emotional journey for sure and I'm only one month in 🥹 Thank you for talking about all the areas that seldom get addressed with RU-vid help videos. It helps all of us feel less alone in the struggles we're overcoming with each upload.
because of you Ali, i’ve had the courage to start my RU-vid channel (not this one i’m commenting with). thank you for each and every one of the videos you make. you have no idea the impact you have on people’s lives. ❤
This is so beautiful to see. Thank you both for sharing your journeys with us. You may not know how far it reaches, but you guys sharing your struggles with us is really humbling, and also so inspiring
Why are these two not dating, they are a perfect match!!! Two former medical students turned into RU-vidrs!!! Perfect pair!!!! -- their online engagement would go up if they were a couple!!!!
It is reassuring to hear that you guys still have RU-vid struggles even after all the success. Your channel was one of the reasons that I finally started on my channel. Thanks for the content!
I actually started a RU-vid channel last month thanks to hearing Ali talk about it, just going for it, and it's still super new but already seeing better results than I had expected so this is definitely a great encouragement forward
This video was much needed! I started my RU-vid channel 3 months ago but had to stop posting for a month due to my busy schedule as a full time college student. I am so glad that this video has given me a new perspective to get back into editing and posting again. Thank you Ali and Izzy 😊💕
totally totally totally ! also valuable sharings and insights. i love the heart of the video and connecting to purpose and keeping the creative spirit alive. That was something I needed to hear.
You've offered incredible inspiration Ali. I've grown my channel on book publishing to 15,000 over the last year. Really happy with that and am considering pivoting towards more productivity and more well-rounded side hustle based content in the future to help broaden the offering (whilst still keeping the main focus on book publishing)
I love this interview, so much value to gain from watching it. I want to start a new youtube channel. My struggle is the editing and transitions.. every you tuber makes their videos sooo interesting, for mine, I just speak to a camera and leave it as is. Anyone with useful and genuine advice will help! Best of luck on all of your journey and thanks Ali for this inspiring interview.
Amazing video, kismet that this dropped because as a UN consultant and fitness model who are transitioning into RU-vid this is super relevant! Wishing everyone the best on their journeys and huge thanks to Ali/Izzy !!!! 🤩🤩
This was really helpful, thank you, @Izzy. I started watching Izzy's videos recently and they're fantastic-- she deserves all the success she's getting. The PTYA has been really helpful; thanks to Ali and the team. Remaining equanimous in response to the art is very smart. A line I like to remember when putting art out into the world is, "The response doesn't belong to you."
I thought I am the only one😂 , I watch their interview before this video , I love the way they talk and look at each other . I might be wrong but thank you guys for all the great tips
"Try to keep the creative spirit alive" is the toughest part of this video for me. As a small-time creator, I started my RU-vid channel about two months ago and honestly I have seen the time fly as I experiment with different ideas since I don't cover just one niche, I love talking about different things. One of the toughest things to ignore are the metrics! My goodness, even losing one subscriber feels traumatic like wait no, don't go, come back! D: Solid advice on trying to fall more in love with the creative process of testing ideas, rather than obsessing with numbers and click-through rates.
*Ramadhan Mubarak, Yaa Ali! Wow All materials and lessona from this video will help me so much. This is what I need to build and grow a youtube channel from nothing in this year. Thank you sharing and educating. Keep up! 🍁🌿*
Ok, I am so copying Ali’s list of “reasons to film a video” to read it out loud to myself. So good! I always think similar thoughts before filming yet it’s easy for those to be mixed with doubts, having an actual list to read out loud seems like such a simple yet genius hack. Thank you!
Thank you, Ali, for all your trips and tricks. I started my youtube channel a few weeks ago and hoping it grows soon. I am trying to get better each day.
I have been following these 2 and they continue to inspire me to be consistent. I have been stuck in 570+ and i wish i could have achieved their numbers in 2 years
This is one of the best videos I have ever watched for RU-vid inspiration. So many lessons packed into one video, in an honest and open discussion. Thank you 🙏
Great video, great content and great chemistry! You may want to consider more collaborations with Izzy. She sounds genuine like you, which I truly appreciate! Best wishes to both of you!!
I might actually try that idea to be honest, lol. I feel like I have a ton of negative thoughts about the creative process that I need to let out and journaling is a way to do that.
Thank you so much for this content, it was really useful for us, aspiring youtubers!! Izzy's view is refreshing and help us see things from a different perspective 🙏🙏
Fabulous video. Loved how he’s interviewing her and then she flips it on its head and starts interviewing him. Her words of encouragement regarding negative feedback was 100% wonderful.
Half way through and just have to say thank you both. Your energy is so supportive, loving, and authentic we can feel it through the screen ❤ Izzy your advice was absolutely needed and appreciated thank you so much for your thoughtful answers! Ali - you held space so well and I can’t wait to buy your book!
As someone with just a little over 100 subscribers, this video has been so helpful and relatable! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences :)
Thank you for putting your effort on this learning video 🌷🌷I love learning from you Ali Abdaal you’re an amazing teacher that have help many on their journey to creating RU-vid and business channel. I learn a lot from you guys.
This has been so motivating for me with starting my RU-vid Journey. Literally just listening to this while I work out and gaining knowledge and feeling to incorporate on my page. Thanks guys!
Yesss I love this so much, the two of you were a big part of why I finally started a channel just a month ago 💖I'm brand new to all of this and have so much to learn, but it's been so fun!
I am motivated seeing how Ali has grown, I can't wait. After a long time of contemplating, I finally started my channel 1 week ago. I had to start watching videos to keep me motivated. Thanks for sharing

Wow. So good and encouraging! Thank you both for sharing your real struggles and lessons. From someone who has been seeing slow but steady growth on our podcast/channel but also considering whether it'll really be worth reviving my personal channel and turning my YT-specific relationship from casual to committed 😏 wish me luck! 😅🙏
I have 414 subscribers.... And i am med student i know it's embarrassing around friends and very hard in the beginning.. I am going through it... I hope everyone succeeds in their journey ❤❤❤
@@Nursebetty bro i also try to be optimistic.... And i am grateful But there are boys in my college who talks a lot of shit about me and i just feel like am I doing something wrong... And it's not just making fun of me but saying a lot abusive things 🥲🥲 which I don't think I deserve for doing something that i love ❤
Thank so much for this video!, I keep dreaming that my travel channel would take off one day... And listening to you guys make me just so emotional and think... " i can do it" Thank you so a million times!
Great chemistry!!! Thanks so much for sharing. I really appreciate the experience and insight from both perspectives. I really like it when you guys collab! This looks like "Feel Good Productivity" -- looks like a sunny tropical local with a beautiful, smart, accomplished young "star" student. Ali is so smart and fast-thinking that he overwhelms me. But his advice is really good. And Izzy balances him out and It's way easier for me to watch the whole video when she's in it and vice versa.
Thoughts while watching: - Research doesn't = expertise - Johnny Harris is a questionable example here of research 😁 - I love my RU-vid comments - I must be in a unique situation - Talking to an avatar - I talk to my past self - The heart - the point/value is so important - Cheesy promo at the end - love it 😅
My channel is slowly growing, almost 100 videos... some videos do really well, and others may need some time. I thought I'd have a definite idea of what content I should be producing by then, but I'm still experimenting!
I was hesitant to watch this video cause I have watched lots of videos addressing the same issues but none of them satisfied me the way this one did. I am so glad I clicked on this video. I think you should make more videos like this. A casual conversation talking about things most of us RU-vidrs struggle with and giving practical tips. You both sound so clear and posh. LOVED THE VIDEO!
This conversation is fantastic. Thank you. I'm 60 now, started YT for a few years then stopped and it's been a couple of years now... I recently realized I have limiting beliefs from how I was raised in a different era and culture, basically telling me some of the common ones mentioned here (imposter syndrome, who cares what i have to say, "ladies" are quiet in the background /YT is a very improper - narcissistic - thing...). I thought I had gotten most of this under control/understanding but 3 yrs ago i got into a depressed funk and i'm back to where i started from. Better now, but it really threw me. I plan to return very soon. Thank you for this! 🤗
I am distracted! Have no idea but you both look so cute together. Anyways, if there is nothing between you two then please ignore my comment. Don’t want to assume things
Damn, 100 subs in ONE MONTH? Aastha, you got to keep going! For the past month, I only got 5-10 new ones lol! And look at you, you're at 625 now! Keep growing!
Thank you so much @ali for always sharing insightful information. After I had my baby, I wanted to switch to a career that could allow me cater for myself, baby and support as a new mom, it was your video that encouraged me to start up my channel, am glad I started, the growth is coming gradually but am super grateful. Thank you for the amazing things you do! They are so practical
Thanks for continuing updates I'd rather trade the stock market as it's more profitable. I make an average of $34,500 per week even though I barely trade myself...👍
Thanks to you both for the video, very interesting to listen to when trying to grow your own channel. I find the spotlight effect so interesting and true! X
I just started my RU-vid journey and let me tell you it really is slow at growing. Its been really enjoyable so far and its a lot of fun. I've met some great people, but it takes a lot of time and life balance. Good luck to all the new youtubers out there i wish you all the success!!
Izzy, really shared all the struggles I had, especially the negative comments they really hurt but all the positive comments push me forward it's really nice. Thanks for these insights!
