This video is a detailed description of Andorra Compacta Juniper which is also known as Youngstown Juniper. Andorra is a low growing evergreen that makes a perfect groundcover. It is a perfect choice for erosion control on a slope. Andorra also works well planted on a low foundation. This cold tolerant plant turns a beautiful plum color in the winter months.

I have these planted around my mailbox. It is very beautiful, and keeps the weeds down perfectly. I haven't had any dieback or browning like a lot of other juniper varieties I've grown, it's tough as nails. It does have a bright green color in spring that fades to a more gray-green in late season, and will definitely turn a slight shade of purple at the tips in cold weather. I do clear leaves and trim some of the taller shoots here and there for a more even appearance. Great juniper.

I had 6 of the Andorra Campacta Juniper planted in my back yard this past fall and they looked lovely in the winter and fall with the purple foliage and is just now turning green. Thanks for your gardening tips.

I am working on an evergreen flower bed at the corner of our lot. I found this plant at a greenhouse and it is indeed a beautiful plant. I'm still considering where to locate it-- maybe center-front. Thank you very much for a comprehensive instruction on plant care.

I bought a small one about 9 in tall at Lowe’s. Can I keep it as a Bonsai tree? I live in an apartment.

Can you do a video on the eastern red cedar as a hedge?

Not sure if you'll see this question as I know this video is older... This juniper sounds like perfect ground cover for an "island" I have that is full sun (it literally bakes in the summer), is on a slight slope, and we mulch with pine straw. I currently have 2 oaks and 3 crepe myrtles (2 bush, 1 as a tree) and plan to grow more in this ridiculously large space. If I plant this as ground cover (initially as a way to control weeds but also for it's evergreen quality, would I be able to cut it back in spots to grow perennial plants? For example, I'd love to plant some day lilies and ornamental grasses here and there in the island, would this plant prevent these from coming up though the soil and pinestraw every spring? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm new to ALL of this and the sandy soils here in NC. As always, thanks for your informative videos!

Yes, you can cut it back. It may root into the ground in places, but a sharp shovel and pair of gloves will clean it up quick.

Fantastic to know! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I literally have dappled shade, part shade, part sun to full sun in a space that is just over half an acre. Thanks to your videos, I've steadily been able to plant camellias, hollies, encore azaleas, and nandinas and most... (I lost 1 of 6 encores, not bad considering my complete LACK of experience!) have done really well because of the info you share!

@@JimPutnam thanks! Ive had a terrible time in trying to find which things are public domain or not. Seems like there should be a way to look things up, or at least a list. I can't find anything and Ive tried googling everything I can think of. Any info on being able to figure out what I'm allowed to propagate would be helpful.
