Your hydrangea blooms are already so open and they look beautiful!! Mine are just beginning to form bloom heads...it is just so crazy! Thank you for this great advice Shannon! My BigLeaf is one of my favorite plants in my garden!
Great video Shannon. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to New England, but these hydrangea are perfectly fine in tons of sun right by the beach! I always try to get my fill when we visit in the summer, and they are mostly often blue or dark purple😃
That sounds amazing!! 😍 I wish our hydrangeas could take more sun. We have scorching sun (100 degrees plus) for sooo many consecutive days in the summer, so they just can't take the sun here!
I wish I could attach a photo of my hydrangea in Arlington, TX that is in full sun and should not be. There used to be a tree that shaded it. The tree came down, and now it just bakes. I can't move it because I'm terrified to lose it. It's 18 years old and ENORMOUS. I baby it all summer and have been known to pray for it.
Lisa, is there any way you can plant another tree to shade it? There are some fast growing trees like Vitex that could cover it in one growing season! We actually did that with one of ours. Had to take out a diseased crape myrtle, and replaced it with a Vitex! The next growing season the hydrangea was shaded again.
@@GrowRoots23 Unfortunately not. It grows all the way to the front of the bed, and there's a pathway and then the lawn. We'd have to have a tree with canopy of about 10 feet to shade it. I could get there over time, but it would take quite a while. I wouldn't want a vitex there. I would need a different tree - a more substantial tree - to carry its weight in the lawn.
Yes, Rose Tone is a perfect fertilizer for it! And yes, if your hydrangea gets super hot and in need of water this summer, it will droop. They are drama queens when it comes to water!! 😂
@@lindaford624 yes it's possible. May be too immature or need to settle after being planted. Rule of thumb is that the first year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap!!
