Starting Cherimoyas (Custard Apples) from seeds is really easy to do and you can do it with the seeds that you get from the fresh fruit. Check out my video on how I was able to grow cherimoyas from seed and watch them grow over the months.

Thank you for taking the time to help us newbies. I love Cherymoyas, but they are expensive to purchase when you can find them. So I will now start growing a few seedlings.

From my experience, unless you graft the tree you will be waiting at least a decade before you get fruit. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure I’m correct.

I’m thrilled to see your video ❤ I just received (10) Cherimoya seeds from online order. I researched the fruit. I am in Agriculture zone 8a in central Georgia. I’m infatuated with tropical fruits for their taste and medicinal properties. However these are sub-tropical. Thank you for the tutorial. I’m familiar with germinating seeds with soaking for twenty-four hours and then transferring them to paper towels soaked with aqueous hydrogen peroxide and folded and placed in plastic sandwich bag. Do you think after germination and potted can I place them in my greenhouse with 50-70% shade cloth? I also purchased a Sugar Apple Sop tree and pineapple mangoes and a cold hardy avocado(Fuerte and Bacon) trees for eating,cloning and sharing (selling). So it appears we have similar interests. Nature is such a blessing and plants just want to live and thrive just like people. Congratulations on your successful Cherimoya adventures. P.S. I have been experimenting with Moringa Olifera seeds (Miracle walking stick tree) a real challenge to transfer into the ground. FYI: This superfood tree will not survive for long in starter pots and will not tolerate temperatures of below 40 degrees at all. I had twelve trees in pots reduced to two survivors but I’m not giving up. Ironically, I just saw a RU-vid video today somewhere in Southeast Asia where a lady had two branches of Moringa. One four inch wide by seven feet tall branch dried for two days and planted in hole outside and it started budding in a couple of weeks! Total Blessings for Life y’all in Zone 8a 👍🏽

I have two cherimoya trees (one white, one red varieties) and my white one produced 4 fruits for the first time but they are not green, they're more of a brownish grape color and still on the tree since this past fall. Just wondering when to pick it and why its not green like every video I see. Thanks for the video...I like the way you germinate seeds and will try it on a few types I have trouble with germinating.

It’s better to not mess around with pots and just plant them where you want the tree , the deep tap root that cherimoyas have need to stretch to have a fast growing healthy tree 👍

Hi! Thank you for uploading this video. I'm also trying to grow cherimoyas in Texas indoor but I have been having some issues. I have three, 4-month old plants on an east-facing window. One of them lost their leaves (although is trying to grow a new one) and the other two have pale leaves, with light brown spots and black tips. I checked their roots today and they are fine, they don't have any pest either. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with mine? Maybe sunburn? Watering issue? Also, I wanted to ask: what type of soil are you using? Did you have them in a green house from the beginning? Thank you :)
@Uminental
@Uminental 3 года назад
I have had some light brown spots and I am confident it is the overexposure to the light source. Definitely not a water problem from my experience.

Annona trees do loose their leaves during the cooler part of the year here in the Caribbean. Then they put out new leaves. This is part of their cycle. As long as the branches aren't dry they are just fine.

Love it. Just ate my first Cherimoya and it knocked my socks off. (At $9/pound that was sort of expected.) I’m taking your advice and going to try to grow seedlings. I hope Fort Myers Florida can provide the climate. I’ve heard it’s iffy and that Atemoya may be easier. Never ate an Atemoya though. Any advice on that by anyone out there would be appreciated. Thanks!

Fort Myers should be great for growing Cherimoyas. They're expensive at the stores ($9.99 a pound) but I'll grab one wherever I can; the same with Soursops, which are a little bit more expensive. I haven't tried an Atemoya, but it's on my wish list!

How are the Cherimoyas doing? I can't find the fruit in stores or at least haven't yet here in Florida. I'm soaking seeds now and all of them are floating. I hope that doesn't matter!

That's awesome! Give it a bit of sunlight as it grows and it should take off. Just make sure it's not too stressed out. As of summer 2023, my 4.5-year-old seedlings got stressed out with the record-breaking summer heat. They regrowing their leaves as of Sept 2023. I hope to release an update soon.

They don't grow true to seed. That's why most grow seedlings for root stock and graft a known variety on them.
@geriannroth449

Don't you nick the seeds prior to soaking. Also do you presoak in weak Hydrogen peroxide solution or Gibberillic acid to speed up germination?

I've been having trouble getting seeds to germinate as well. However, I may have one growing now! I say "may" because it's in a pot labeled "bay nut and date seeds", but it looks like the seedlings in the video and we reuse pots a lot, and I did plant a bunch of cherimoya seeds a while back (probably months ago). Apparently, it did nothing until I put the pot under a leaky water faucet outside and so the soil was quite wet - not sure if that helps. This was April in the Bay Area (10a?).

Has your tree fruited yet?? I hear you need a male and female trees for the cherimoya to fruit. Is that true??
@a-yiathoj6391
@a-yiathoj6391 8 дней назад
Cherimoya have male and female flowers on the same tree. The flowers are female when they barely start to open and then they turn male once they are wide open. You have to collect the pollen beforehand from another flower that's turned male to pollinate the female before it turns male.
