I use PVC pipe size 200mm with 16 hole (0.75m high) and for extra fertilizer I use PVC pipe size 50mm. This experiment is a great ideas to grow 16+ lettuce in one vertical tower and also use minimal compost. Please enjoy the video.

On a real vertical tower you do not need soil and very little water per day. What he is doing is vertical stacking. Nice try.

The tower simply refers to the structure intended to maximise vertical growing space. One can choose to use it to grow stuff via hydroponics, or fill it up with soil or a soil substitute and use it for planting the usual way.
