How to grow on social media as an artist 

Didn't Instagram change hashtags, that you cant really filter for the new works, but only see a collection of the most popular. That's so destructive for new artists...

One thing that I find fun about posting oc art is that if you have a little audience or some mutuals who enjoy oc lore keep things vague at first while slowly dropping clues about their story!! This is something I really liked doing, because it involved messing with my friends and telling more people about my characters. Doing it episodically is the key :D

The "sketch account" example is so good!!! i often doodle way more than completing actual full pieces of art so I'll def consider trying this out

I'm someone who gets immediately depressed when I'm drawing something just for a trend because honestly I feel like it's all the same empty thing every time. I have no idea how I would ever keep up this

1) focus on growing and stay on the forefront of audience’s mind by being consistent. Post actual art once a week. 2) repost old work. 3) have a doodle/sketch acc + main (put in bio) 4) engagement >>> quantity/follows etc 5) take care of mental health 6) online prescience (ur look). Have a pfp that represents who u r and ur artist. Keep the same pfp Username: stick out in ppl’s head -> needs to be sticks out, easy to say and remember. two words eg: para0llel (rolls off the tongue, the zero sticks out) Bio: 7) post fandoms + trends, hashtags and other artist’s work. Balance between ur og work etc. doing trend with ur own twist to it. Include oc backstory, and other stuff so ppl grow attached to it. 8) draw what u love and put thought and emotion into it. 9) have a recognisable style that makes u immediately recognisable (for me, probably look like smth out of a picture book with textures? 10) negative stuff makes u shadowbanned. Even if it’s a joke. Follow guidelines + community standard. To get unbanned, delete it and delete what;S wrong and post again 11) INTERACTIVE/REACH: colourful, patterns, emotions, relatable -> show experiences ; provoke them to ask questions.

Quality over quantity is key, and boost app social has been my go-to for maintaining that. It helps me plan and create content that resonates with my audience, keeping my art's integrity while growing my reach. Any other artists here found it helpful?

I gave up on social medias because despite doing EVERYTHING you told in this video (and for years), all the interactions I had was robots tagging fake accounts... I'm tired But I'll have to restart over if I want to grow as an independant artist :/ Thank you for the video !

I do all these, and taken everyone else’s advice, yet my engagements is going down with every post and my followers list has remained the same amount of numbers for half a year. I’m sick of people saying to just be happy with my numbers, bc *news flash*, I am forever greatful, but what’s wrong with wanting to grow more, esp when I want to make a business at some point? I gain lots of attention but rarely follows. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve given up trying to improve.

I'm a cut-out animator for so long(worked freelance on mostly cartoons,chuck's choice, my little pony, where's waldo etc.) i'm kinda getting burned out of it and recently the company I work for ceased operations, leaving me with free time so I decided to just go and post my art online my artpage got banned on fb not even lasting a week LMAO, but I'm having success on pixiv, might try on other sites later, would like to try commissions but i'm entirely new to this I still don't know how this works XD Hoping the best for those starting their art journey, it's not too late to start now! :)

instagram has me kinda shadowbanned on both my art accounts, not even a single like from people who don´t follow me, not even the bots come to say to dm my art to their accounts, and I don't know why, I don't have anything that goes against Instagram rules.

I always drop some info, plus I upload the comic on a different page compared to my tiktok, but I have the same username and everything you mentioned. I just rather make related content there, as that can usually attract attention and lead people to investigate on what you have. I hope miracles exist and I'll be seen with my hard work :)

From my experience social media is basically total void I can post anything anywhere and usually the result is radio silence If it does get attention it cause algorithm made a mistake and the next hour it will all go to normal So i see being an artist is one of the worst curse to have Dont know if its imposter syndrome speaking or cyberpsychosis

This might come across as a little vent but this is just my genuine experience. I've struggled with a lot of depression and my own personal setbacks in life since 2020, i used to post my art before that on insta and had like 500 followers but not rly any identity or consistency and since then due to my irl problems i completely stopped posting and became a passive consumer of other's art on social media and ever since then i havent had the courage to restart I've just been afraid and during this time I've also seen much better artists than myself, my lack of experience of these 4 yrs, the whole scene of nfts and ai... like i am discouraged beyond repair. Idk what will motivate me, also the fact that i dont really have any friends to encourage me and support me idk how to get the strength to get back to doing art when it once used to be the thing i loved doing the most

honestly… I wish there was a button that disables you from seeing views, followers, and like counts. I need to teach myself not to be affected by numbers when I don’t get the result I want

Appreciate the video and you have such a great style! Your engagement % (likes per post vs follower count) is probably the highest I've ever seen for an art account! I guess it's from the community aspect/engaging with your audience as much as possible but it's very rare to see that high, so I'm curious if you think you do anything different to most artists to achieve that? :)
