You are too cute! I love how gushy you get about this plant. About a month ago, my husband was traveling for work and on his flight back home from Florida, he bought me one of these from the airport because he said that he remembered that I always said that I wanted a palm. I know that something you buy from an airport isn’t going to be the “best of the best”, but I definitely love my plant, especially since my husband gave it to me with love. I have been noticing that a few fronds (is that the right word?) have gotten brown and crispy, but I have seen some new shoots popping up too, but some seem dry. I have been watering weekly (that’s when I notice the soil dries). Is that from watering issues? Light issues? Or is it from potting issues because I haven’t repotted mine from its original pot? (Original pot is a square plastic cheap thing). I am so envious of how beautiful yours are and want mine to end up thriving and looking beautiful like yours!
Hi there! I am leaning toward repotting with new soil mix, it may be that current soil is your issue. Also place her in an area where she gets bright light to encourage new growth. Try that and see how she responds. Hope it helps.😀🪴
I have a bamboo palm, 2weeks ago the bigger 2 were separated from the babies and put outside in the backyard, and seems to be really liking it out there the babies seem to be happy too being indoors I've been wanting a parlour palm for so long now I have a beautiful bamboo palm
Thank you for posting a video on this plant. Just got my first and had zero clue how to care for it. I appreciate how laid back the tone of your video is. (Did that even make sense?)
I always assumed these were those larger palms that grow several feet high and avoided them because I don't have the space or lighting for something that large, but now that I know they only grow about 3ft I will definitely be picking one up next time I see one at the store.
I unknowingly put mine outside in direct sunlight n unfortunately I ended up with a bunch of brown wilting leaves. I tried to cut most of the damaged leaves off.. will my plant bounce back? Is there anything that will help it? Thanks
Yes, she should bounce back if you have some green. But keep as many fronds that have some green on them, don't cut those, she needs extra help in Photosynthesis. New growth will come from hearts at tip of stems. If the new fronds come up green, your parlor is on the mend. Hope this helps. 😀🪴
I overwatered mine and now the roots are soft and brown the plant stems are drooping. I repotted it yeasterday into a bigger pot so it can have more space. Any advice on how I can get them back on track?
Allow the soil to dry out before you water again. If roots or soil has a rotten smell, they you have root decay and will need to trim away dead roots (soggy squishy roots that break apart easy) . It's a tricky process though, hope this helps😀🪴
Hi, yes you can. Coco coir is rapidly becoming a great sustainable soil additive choice. To use coco coir, this a a ratio we like: 40% coconut coir, 40% potting mix,15% perlite and 5% worm castings. (coco coir is akin to potting mix). Hope this helps. 😀 🪴
@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN I just bought a very healthy parlor palm and took it outside on my porch to pot it. I needed to water it and it was raining so I sat it outside. The problem is I forgot it and the sun turned several leaves white almost like it got bleached. Do I need to cut those off? The plant is now indoors, but I am not sure if I should trim it or not.
HJI, I am sorry your parlor got hammered by the sun. I would not remove any palm fronds yet, Maybe some are still functional and can photosynthesize. If the fronds turn brown, they have died and you can cut them off. Hope she bounces back fast!😀🪴
Hi, we like this soil mix for parlors - 80% indoor potting mix ( miracle gro) 5% worm castings by wiggle worm, and 15% perlite (miracle gro brand) you can get these at Home Depot or Amazon . Hope this helps 😀🪴
Hi, you will need to be patient, this palm is kinda a slow grower. But given the right conditions, she will add lot's of new growth for you! Remember to provide proper fertilizer , watering and good lighting and she will get taller and bushy.😀🪴
Hi there, you should be ok, you area little high on the perlite, so make sure your palm doesn't dry out too quick, but she should be ok. In the future ( 1 yr out) mix a bit of worm castings in to enrich the soil profile. 😀🪴
@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN oh damn you’re up late too (or on the west coast?) Maybe the mix is a blessing in disguise, cause I always feel like I over water
Hello I’m enjoying your videos and enthusiasm plus the written out information at the end is unique and most helpful 👍 also it will be really good if you do the same for the problems how to detect the cause of every plants typical problems & the cure once the problem has affected the plant 🪴 thank you 🙏
Hi, I'm sorry if you cut her that tall segment of trunk will die. Palms are monocots and don't typically branch out when are cut midway through the trunks. Best way is to encourage new baby shoots is propagation. Remove the tall trunks but keep any trunks 6' or less and repot entire palm with the new custom potting soil. This should encourage her to fill i and give you a new lush full plam that does'nt hit your ceiling! Good luck! 😀🪴
Ohh, I'm sorry, poor parlor! For now, I would let the sunburned palm fronds stay on plant until new fronds push out, then I would cut off the damaged fronds. 😀🪴
Can I use a grow light as it will sit in dark corner. I have a dual grow light on stand. The settings allow me to choose to use one or both lights. It has 3 light brightness settings. I can find any information on this.
Hi! Yes definitely ! I would use the brightest light setting and both lights . I have grow lights too and use highest setting. My plants love the extra light. Hope this helps. 😀🪴
My plants were outside for the summer. Now i brought them inside for the winter. I see some bugs. How do i get rid of them. I've tried so many things. Need help, please. They look like fruit flies, but they aren't.
Hi there, sorry about your pest problems. First move your palm away from any other indoor house plants you may have. Step 2- try knocking any visible bugs off palm fronds by with spray nozzle from sink or shower (tepid water). Tilt your palm sideways and rotate as you spray leafs to knock off any bugs. Then get an insectictal soap or neem oil spray and apply to palm per directions. Reapply the spray in two 4 day intervals, ( 8 days total) to break the reproduction cycles of any of the bugs ( maybe you have thrips, ahids, white fly spidermites etc). Hope this is helpful and good luck getting your parlor back to full health! 😀🪴
if you have mealy bugs/spider mites You can use Neem Oil. That will get rid of pests. But follow directions and reapply every week for 1 month to break reproduction cycle.😀🪴
I was given this beauty, however most of the fronds are light green and yellow. Since bringing him home I put in a bright room w/indirect sun. Will the fronds revert back to bright green?
i’m planning on buying one for my room. i have a east facing window. sunlight comes in early in the morning but i have my drapes closed. would it still be ok?
Hi ! If the drapes are sheers, your parlor palm may do well. But if drapes are thick and opaque, she might miss the light and her leaves will start to look pale after a while. Hope this helps.😀🪴
@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN thank you! my curtains are thick and block out the sun (i live in Phoenix where the sun can get extreme😣) should i use a growth light in this case? i don’t always have them closed. i just have them closed in the morning but i open them up after the sun is not hitting directly at my room.
@@ChromaticaCitizen yes a grow light will definitely help. And if you can let some indirect light too, that would be helpful. I have been testing out these lights, for about 8 months and my plants seem to be responding well, here is link>> www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09NQ4MYLD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
Ohh, I think you have mealy bugs! They are white in color. You will need to spray her with neem oil or insecticidal soap. And keep plant away from others so mealy bugs don’t spread. Reapply in five days. I’m sorry. Hope this helps 😃🪴
Every video i see they are small plants. I just inherited 2 palms about 4ft tall each, and I don't know what to do with them. They're tall and can't hold their own weight and look lake lanky.
Wow, you have some big mature palms. If you want a more fuller look to yours, you could up-pot it, trim off some of the old trunks, and then add in some new smaller parlors which will give the palm a fuller appearance by filling in the leggy areas.😀 🪴
I'm growing yuccas and dracaenas, along with a peperomia, croton and boat lilies indoors. I wanted to add a palm or two, but can't keep them alive. I tried both majesty and parlor palm. I tried changing the soil, using moisture tray, misting the leaves, fertilizer, nothing worked. Possibly palms aren't a good blend with the other plants I have. I'm at a loss as to why I'm doing so well with the other plants but can't keep palms alive.
Hey there. Some palms can be tricky. I too have not had much success growing majesty indoors as a house plant or even outdoors for that matter, they are heavy H20 drinkers and if grown indoors, they need a lot of light. I also had mites with majesty indoors, so I would avoid her as a house plant. Now, I have had success growing ( parlors ) + Areca palms indoors, they are tough. I also like Kentia palms, super elegant palm, but are very expensive. On any palm growing indoors watch out for Spider mites ! Mealy bugs and scale are sometimes a problem, but spider mites are more of a problem I have found for palms (also for crotons). You can also try pony tail palms (not a palm, but have a palm like appearance) they are super tough. Hope this helps😀🪴
Mine is dying. I removed all the dead leaves and no new growth but I see her roots look great. Ive no clue what to do. Leaves are yellow. No direct sunlight. So sad
Yes, Let's repot her and see if that helps. You can try repotting with a pot that is a tad bit larger too. Use a soil mix that is of this ratio: 80% indoor potting, 15% perlite and 5% worm castings. Hopefully with repotting, your parlor palm will get back on track.😀 🪴
Hi you can try a diluted spray of citrus (lime or lemon squeezed) plus vinegar mixed in a bottle of water and spray onto the leaves and that should deter them. There should also be some items for sale at pet stores to help with that as well. 😀🪴
Oh, sorry to hear that. We let sit our tap water for abut 1-2 days to help let all the chlorine VOC's out and they seem ok with it, but collecting fresh rainwater is the absolute best choice 😀🪴
