In the episode of Brew City Gardener I show you how to grow your potatoes in straw using the lasagna garden method. Some may refer to this as the "Ruth Stout" gardening method. Whatever you call it; it yields amazing results so make sure you subscribe to see what we harvest in late summer!

That’s a nice selection of spuds. You are very lucky to have access to some of your neighbour’s space. Potatoes are great in a space in someone else’s yard because they don’t require a great deal of tending to. I had a neighbour many years ago who had a large, unwanted garden in her yard. That’s where my potatoes grew until she was ready to put sod in several years later.

It truly is a blessing. That left space in my garden to plant some corn this year. I'm super excited to try some new super sweet corn I ordered. I will try to plant it in a straw bed as well. Hopefully it works out ok. We'll see. Thanks for watching!

This is how we garden on Friendly Food Forest channel, but we use a lot of woodchips. We like it so far and are learning on the fly.

Last time we planted potatoes we had way too many as well. Watching this makes me wish I could do more in the veggie garden this year, but I will be completely swamped with the prairie flowers and grasses already started for our oak savanna restoration. I'm going to follow your straw bale techniques for next year though!

Happy gardening brother. .Blessings. .I've been wanting to do potatoes that way. We have been trying no to eat as much potatoes and bread lately so not sure I'll put in any this year. 😊

Thank you so much and same to you. I have been watching what I eat lately, as well. In fact I lost about 100 pounds over the last 6 months but I promised myself that if I grow it I can eat it. That way I spend plenty of energy in the garden to offset the calories....LOL

We are located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Zone 5b Growing just a little bit of something is far better than growing nothing at all. You still have plenty of time to get things going. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

It looks like you are in zone 6b. You can start prepping your garden now. Cool weather crops like broccoli, lettuce and potatoes can be planted now and warm weather crops like pepper and tomatoes can be planted in the middle of May. Thanks for checking out my garden. Be sure to stick around to see what we have in store this year. Take care, Corinne. Happy gardening!!
