I accidentally planted like 300 punmkins this year when I was trying to fertilize my new grass in backyard...and I forgot I had tossed all our Halloween pumpkins in our compost...after watering my grass for a couple days I realized little baby pumnkins popping up literally everywhere in my new beautiful grass. I plucked them all out and transplanted them over in a more appropriate area for em and theyre happy as can be. So I've got a very unexpected unplanned pumnkin patch this year and hopefully some will pollinate and grow some good happy pumnkins this year

Omg! I nearly snarfed the water I was drinking as you mentioned using bras and about being optimistic by going with a double D!!! I LOVE your humor and appreciate the candid, honest, and detailed way you make your educational videos! I'm guessing you and your wife would get along really well, if not become good friends, with my hubby and I if we knew one another in real life. If my garden was in my backyard, I'd actually try your bra hack out with a few of my old bras😂. Instead, I bought a few yards of fabric on Amazon. It is labeled "solid stretch power mesh fabric". It is similar to the skin toned material you'd use on dance or ice skating costumes to make costumes appear skimpier/sexier while still covering the body with a slightly sheer material that mimics skin. I cut it into wide strips to support larger fruits/veggies that I'm trellising or to protect fruits/veggies/plants from animals, bugs, excessive sun exposure, and from the cold. The material is kinda like a combination of a semi-thick tight and a micro mesh netting.

The fact that pumpkins spread out and need a lot of space isn't a down side because you can take advantage of that to use that to cover plants that don't like full sun.

Thanks for including the drip installation in the video. Crazy that we just moved into a new build home and to my dismay recently discovered that the soil here is like solid clay with tons of intermixed rock. So I will have to grow everything in raised beds and pots and will need to run a lot of drip lines off the 3/4" irrigation tubing the builder put in. Didn't even think about investigating the soil when we were house shopping--surrounded by orchard and vineyard so assumed it was prime growing area 😏. So your videos on irrigation (and everything else) are truly a godsend! Thank you!

@johnlord8337 Год назад
Other than a huge investment of honey bee hives - and everything with swarms, bee stings, etc - consider (goolge) Crown Bees Seattle (Dave and Barbara Hunter, good friends) mason and leaf-cutter bees - native bee species. Masons and leaf-cutters are the most-prolific of native pollinators - as they actually are pollen gatherers. Honey bees (and why they are defensive) only go for the nectar for their queen jelly, propolis glue, bee pollen, and honey - the byproduct is pollenation happens as they crawl on the flower, shake it, etc. The native bees crawl all over the pollen, harvesting, eating, and then body-pollenating the next plant flower. They use the pollen with the egg nest and seal up with mud or (leaf-cutter) a small section of leaf plug. They only need a small mason bee house, or homemade unit of tube holes for laying their multiple eggs. Masons need water and clay mix for their mud daubings. So have proper bird bath clean water with mud around the perimeter for the bees (and water for the other honey bees and pollinating flies etc.). They will stay in your area - otherwise they will leave and search out a new nesting site that does have their meeded mud.

So... if my pumpkins in the pumpkin patch were too small,... which type of mineral would be best to fix that? Any suggestions on this? It might be soil health possibly. The plants are big and spreading out. But just their little pumpkins are so small. They are producing lots of pumpkins. But all of them are like softball sized. They are a smaller variety but still should get to about volley ball sized. I'm thinking maybe a certain mineral might could fix this? omg - I didn't even THINK of tulle!. And I sew a lot, lol! I've been looking at the different options online for garden protection fabric and it's all just too expensive. Think I'll head off to my local JoAnnes and get a bolt. Excellent tip! I'm growing pie pumpkins and Sugar baby watermelons in the 28g galvanized tubs from Tractor Supply. I've had minimal success in the past with either in ground or in containers, but I've given them a little more space this year and I'm hopeful. The bottle gourds and zucchini I've planted in them are going wild, lol. I've used a modified hugelkulture method in the tubs. I drilled 4 holes in the sides at the level of the first indented ring on the tub (about 3-4" up from the bottom), then filled with punky wood to just above the holes, then filled the rest of the way with container soil. The tomatoes love it as the roots go deep enough to get to the wet wood. It doesn't really help the shallow rooted plants so much, but the soil does stay more moist when it gets hot. Now I just need to figure out a trellis system to use with them for the melons, pumpkins and gourds...

Hey there, I am a Gourd grower and I’m watching your video and a lot of your handling practices of the seeds whether they be pumpkins or the other varieties of pumpkins and melons are handled, matching the same way as what I do for Gourds my question is I don’t snip any ends because I’m Gourd people will snap or send the tip the pointed tip of a Gourd seed some do not like that having that done however, using a bit of peroxide in a dish to germinate some gourd seeds work really well so I was wondering if that practice if that could be done eat with pumpkin seeds or watermelon seeds to get them started I don’t have the room to grow pumpkins or melons, or that, because the gourds grow prolific in my garden and since I am Gourd Grover, and an artist, I need all the guards that I can get, but I was just wondering you know the difference is that you might take maybe you can’t answer the question if you don’t know that much about Gourd’s but I just thought I would throw it at you anyway I love your videos I watch you all the time. I’m excited for pumpkins! I’ve always forgotten the right time to plant. Now I’m finally going to get those jack be littles on the trellis in time for Halloween 🎃

If only you had posted this one day sooner. I planted mine all wrong yesterday. Oh well, next year I will do it correctly. This year I'll just have to cross my fingers.

Perfect I have spaghetti squash and Japanese pumpkin, (Kobacha) seedlings to plant out. Our weather in the Monterey bay is just like yours. Love the drip system tool.

My garden grow area is just under 700 sq ft. I've gotten creative in how and what I can grow. This year, I have adopted your idea for tomato tellis.. and using that for the cuc's as well. I also decided to take a stab at sweet pumpkins. Not having real estate, I went with pots.. big ones (25 gallons). Started them indoors.. transplanted with quality soil and they are doing fantastic. Just need to build a trellis.
