I grow lot’s of rosemary for the branches. I cut them up and put all the branches around my fruit trees and basically every where in my yard. Stops cats,snails and any other animals in my yard. I just leave them there until following spring and then put fresh ones again. They are even better when dry also. Great video. Thank you. Happy gardening.

Stops cats ? Not in my yard. I have big too big Rosemary's plants and bushy all over, and it's the cats' best hanging sleeping spot. The Rosemary's plants are 15 years each. I trim them, but they grow fast . I say if you're generous, your hand will make everything grow fast . Even when I go and have my hair trimed, I start a conversation with the stylist, let's say, about a movie , I do make the story up so she can tghrou her opinions all about generous and tight people , and depends on her answer i will decide she is in or out intel I find that generous lady to cut my hair , plants and hair are the same , 😊

I also like rosemary for tea and to put in yeast rolls when I make homemade yeast rolls. I'm glad this video popped up in my recommended videos, my rosemary had outgrown the terra cotta pot I've had it in for years; this video reminded me that I used to take cutting and grow new rosemary plants, I had one out in my yard at my previous home that did get very big. I moved in 2021 and been so busy developing garden areas and working on the old farmhouse that is on my property that I totally forgot how lovely rosemary is in landscape! I'm now in northwest Florida 8b and loving it up in this part of the state.

"Rosemary is dead easy to grow from cuttings." Well with my cuttings, the word "dead" definitely seems to be correct sir! Haha! I took several about 6 weeks ago and put one in water and the rest in general purpose compost. The one in water was about to be evicted and sent to the great herb garden in the sky as I thought it had rotted but just in time I noticed three tiny roots appearing so it is now on parole! As for the others, they seem to be static with little black bits on the ends of their leaves so I have cut them back a bit in the hope that the other end might grow roots (if they have not already done so!) I read that stressing cuttings sometimes encourages growth so I have cursed at them frequently but rather than being stressed I do not think that they are taking me seriously and they have lost the will to live! Incidentally I am in UK.

@georgealderson4424 2 года назад
@@g.e.boroush5176 Well GEB there have been more deaths I am sorry to say but (without wanting to tempt faith) three are still with us in "the land of the living" so far! As for a thyme cutting, it has joined the great herb garden in the sky for some reason. I am not sure if it died through lack of water but my understanding was that it was supposed to prefer arid conditions! Perhaps it was in some pact with the Rosemary and decided to "give up the ghost"? On the other hand, several thyme plants in the garden have been well and truly watered recently and they are looking decidedly ill so in no time there will be no thyme at this rate. On the bright side, some mint looks as though it wants to cover the whole of Northern Europe so "win some, lose some" as they say. I was planting things for the benefit of the bees, butterflies, birds and beasts but it has been so hot then so wet I think most of them have decided to emigrate to a country that knows what sort of weather it wants and sticks to it!
@Pinkfox56
@Pinkfox56 2 года назад
@@georgealderson4424 Sounds about right for my area in the west of England. 😂 I knew well enough that mint was very prolific but put just a tiny weak looking bit in my big oak half barrel with other herbs that were well established and it’s taken over. I thought the sage monster growing like crazy would be a good contender to keep it at bay but how wrong can you be. It was the pot I originally bought for a bay tree that was only growing really slowly with small leaves that kept being eaten by various insects. At least that is doing so much better with much bigger healthier leaves and doesn’t seem at all bothered by the fight for space around it between the other herbs. 😊
@georgealderson4424
@georgealderson4424 2 года назад
@@Pinkfox56 Haha. The battles continue. It's just as well that there is no noise from the garden fight or the neighbours might start complaining! It wouldn't be so bad if some plants fought to survive nevermind tried to take over. I planted various herbs for the benefit of the wildlife but I don't think they are impressed or even grateful as after an initial buzzy period they seem to have emigrated!

I use the branches from pruning. I use woody parts and new growth but new growth roots way better. Take a whole lot of cuttings because not everyting will root. I put them in old used pottingsoil and keep the soil wet. Not moist but wet. Works like a charm. I've been doing this for years. When you want to take a big cutting you should layer a branch. I've used layering a couple of times with succes. I do like to leave it in the ground for about a year. Also when you plant the rosemary it likes poor sandy very good draining soil, little to no watering when it is established and preverably full sun. They like brick walls too because it retains heat at night. And when you prune them each year or every other year the bush grows more compact, has more new growth and looks nicer. That's just a my two cents from the experience I have with rosemary. It's a great plant and super easy. I primarily grow it for the scent and looks.

Thanx themadsamplist! Poor, sandy, well-drained soil for sure! Interesting about the layering! Thank you so much for sharing. @@TheRipeTomatoFarms I don't like rooting in water and get bad results when I try it no matter what plant. And when I do have success I find the transition to soil difficult for the plant. I always use pottingsoil and usually used pottingsoil. That doesn't tend to harden up and doesn't dry out as much. And I keep it wet. Works for me and I've been doing it for years now with rosemary, sage, butterfly bushes, conifers and more. And I like to cover the soil with moss, bark, twigs, leaves and stuff like that to reduce evaporation of water. And I keep them in the shade. Just stuff I found out by trying.

I have always pruned in fall, and felt defeated when it doubled in size again mid-spring! Pruning those new shoots in the spring seems much more effective, especially if I can pot them up to share. I prefer my rosemary ground to a fine powder, then used as a dry rub with black pepper on a pork loin, cooked long and slow in the smoker. 🤤 As a person with scalp issues, I can use it as a hair rinse to calm things down. Its high oil content makes for excellent homemade smudge\aroma sticks too!

Thank-you! I just found you today, & subscribed. I've been planting onions that sprouted before I used them- just by sticking them in the yard, but your onion video was very helpful. Now I can eat them & still grow them. Also I've got a big, old rosemary & wanted more, so finding this was super timely. Wishing you well.

Thank you for this video. It’s very clear and easy to follow! I spent a pleasant time this afternoon doing exactly what you demonstrated. I just now put my two, clear glasses of rosemary sprigs-in-water on a safe windowsill, along with a little file card with dates on it that I will need to change the water and watch for roots. It’s amazing how happy doing this this simple little thing has made me. But then, gardening projects seem to have that effect on one, don’t they!

I wish I would have seen this video a month ago. I started rosemary from seed and ended up with 5 viable seedlings out of 500 seeds. I went to Home Depot for something else just recently and found a beautiful rosemary plant for $3.48....it's doing really well after being transplanted a week ago, while my seedlings are healthy, but growing soooo slowly. I may see if I can find another deal on a rosemary plant and try what you explain in the video. I love rosemary...I use it for cooking and just love the smell in a herb mixture simmering on the kitchen stove. Once again, you have shared useful information in a straight forward and easily understood way. Appreciate your videos. P.S. I'd kill for your rosemary bushes.....
