An expert once told me when to water roses. Put your finger down in the soil. If it comes up dry Water, If it comes up moist Water, If it comes up wet Water and then Water some more. My garden was once part of a 2 acre rose garden and i still have some of the old roses- about 50 in all and most still going strong 30 years later. I water them a lot lol

DONT JUST TELL PEOPLE TO WATER WATER WATER!!! It depends on soil structure and where you live in regards to weather. If you live somewhere in the North where its cold, the water wont transpire as fast as it would somewhere in the south, and you'll drown your plants. They need to breathe oxygen!!! Water doesnt contain enough oxygen for most plants roots. There are many many variables.

Hi there, I am very late replying, but how ever a GREAT video of roses advice thanks! I love growing roses, they are so rewarding! I found the more I improved my soil the easier gardening is, as less diseases, easy to dig, less pests, and more healthier plants which "grew" my confidence.🌺🌺🌺

Good information, Tony. I've a real soft spot for roses and grow 6 different David Austin varieties, both climbers & shrubs. It's not the easiest climate to grow in with snow, ice and bitter cold winds for 5 months of the year... but when they're blooming it's simply glorious and so worth the trouble. 🌱🐝

I was pretty excited when 1 of the hybrid tea "Eternal Flame" rose bloomed after a week in my care😁. Soon the 2nd roses "petite Knock Out" started blooming (at least 5 to 6 roses) and it quickly smelled wonderful on my balcony. Now I want to make sure are cared for properly so l'm all ears.

I created an ombre hedge of roses right down one side of my garden and I love them. I'm a complete novice and only started last spring but had blooms right from late spring until mid autumn. They do need a lot of attention, the aphids quickly became my worst enemy but the payoff is worth it when you look out of your windows and see hundreds of healthy blooms.
@lieuwina
@lieuwina 2 года назад
How did you get rid of the aphids. I have been using neem oil with a little detergent. Tried 70% rubbing alcohol, first on all the leaves then a solution of 70% rubbing alcohol (diluted with water of course, neem and detergent) has helped my lemon tree but not my roses. any tips any one?
@adreeves3374
@adreeves3374 2 года назад
@@lieuwina I've been using dish soap and water in a spray bottle on my roses of an evening once it cools down. Not sure what country you are from but I use a small amount (tea spoon) of fairy liquid in a pint of water. Mix it up and spray all over the leaves, buds and flowers. It won't get rid of them permanently and it is something you have to continue with for the duration of the growing season, but it certainly keeps them at bay.

We have roses grown on 9 foot trellis covering the front of our house. This supplies us with shade, and security. On the north side around the HVAC but not too close to block air flow and maintenence. Are shrub roses. Now two new climbers to cover arched trellis over the ramp for fragrance and security . The other half of the house are trellis for grapes and kiwi vines. Under which is a nice place to sit. Our porch now has a stock tank pond with goldfish, and water plants. The fertile water goes to watering the garden. So your videos are much appreciated.

Hi Tony. I didn't really bother with roses on my plot to start with. But after getting my first three I am now hooked. I have now got 15 different types at different stages. Love them. I got 5 bare root ones from a seed and plant catalogue that were discounted due to the labels falling off and the company didn't know what they were. Love a bargain. I intend to take cuttings to root from them at some time for more plants.

Just came across your video. I’ve no experience at growing anything. I live in the southern u.s. in Alabama. Long hot spring and summers into October. My back yard gets full sun. I’ve been thinking about a rose garden for awhile now.

Hi, brilliant and educational video, I have a bunch of rose shrubs and want to plant them along a wall, what support mechanism should I put for the shrub to grow outward rather than along the ground ?

We have a couple rose bushes which do amazingly....without having to do much to them! But every time I've tried planting rose bushes on purpose I haven't had much luck! Great video and great tips...I'm sure the next time I give it a go I will have a better time of it!

@@ChilliChump Struggling pal. not sure they are going to come to anything, either the 3 seed i had were dodgy as they took so long to come to anything or losing the heat at the wrong time really did a number on them. Will have to see what happens, at this rate any fruit you get is a winner lol bit of a shame if they dont take though

Been growing silly grocery store mini roses in pots for almost five years. Makes me very happy how successful they are. When it gets buggered by anything unhappy, i prune back regardless of calendar (i live in south texas). Repotting will be necessary over time. That’s your planning. Also Ton (we abbreviate a lot in south texas), i recommend organic fertilizer. I am making my own dandelion and seaweed teas aerobically. And i add a little vinegar in the water once a month. My dead ma taught me that. I do roses for her. Now, Elaine ingram, a microbiologist puts out mind blowingly learned utube videos on building soil and soil’s very interesting mental, symbiotic relationship with plants (explaining mycorrhizal fungi and other important soil inhabitants in a good field and how to make yours good, too.) Mind blowing for a gardener. You’re are one of my top 5 utube advisors Ton, and i garden with all y’all metaphorically over my shoulder, whispering, “no, stupid, i told you why that won’t work.” Keep em coming. (Ps you remind me of shirley Valentine’s son from too long ago.)

I've got a climbing rose I've had for 3 years now, it didn't do very well last year cos it was covered in greenfly, I've noticed them this year so I'm trying to stay on top of it with a spray I've got. Great video x
