Wow this video couldn't come at a better time! I am just now expanding into a new tile and spent too much time trying to decide how I wanted my road layout to be. I have a rail line as well and some curves in my highway. I rarely ever look at my terrain to determine where to build. Will definitely use these tips for my expansion. Great video!!
Just a word of advice @ around 3:00 - it's usually bad practice to make rails move out of the way of roads instead of the other way around (i.e. make it tunnel under the road instead of making the road fly over or tunnel under it). In real life at least, you'd want the railway to be continuously as flat as possible; if the tracks need to go underground, the slope/ramp needs to be more gradual than what's shown here. That's why most railways IRL usually have level crossings or flyovers on them; you never see them tunnel under before a road because, yeah, tunnels are expensive, and tunnels are only done for rails when it runs entirely underneath a city, runs through mountains, or when it's needed for a junction. Railways these days are often elevated or (slightly) above level than roads (at least in/around cities) anyways, making it relatively simpler to adjust the grade/slope, and to avoid level crossings, flyovers or tunnels for the roads.
Interesting, I never thought about that, I try to avoid at grade crossings as much as possible cos of traffic, but now I'm gonna start putting the road underneath the rail instead, very cool advice and helpful for realism 😎
I've been really enjoying your videos this week - started with just one interchange tutorial, then another, and now more of your longer builds like this. Thank you for sharing, the format is great!
Love this Beginners Guide ❤ Not much of a Fan of the Cloverleave either. There are a few Interchanges on the Workshop by Timboh. The turbine is a little bigger then the Cloverleave but it works pretty well especially with lane mathematics (tm)
Yeah I don't love the cloverleaf and I'm definitely gonna retrofit it in the future but I'm keeping this series as vanilla as possible for now, which is why I made the second interchange from scratch 😎
Thank you so much 🥰 It's definitely grown a lot. There were some things I did off camera that I didn't show for the sake of keeping this video from going too long, but you all got to see the best parts 😜 next time we are gonna get into some real fun stuff though 😎
Too bad the vanilla freeway roads still didn't include the sound-barrier version of one lane highway road. Considering that we got a free new roads a few months ago.
Just a quick question - I have 4 landfills and just added an incinerator. I set all my landfills to start emptying. Is that stupid? lol In other words, will that stop all the garbage trucks from running? Or is this what I'm supposed to be doing?
The incinerator should collect garage but unless all your landfills are totally full I'd probably empty them one at a time starting with the one that's the most full so you still have coverage 😎
@@CitiesByDiana So I don't even need landfills anymore? btw Thanks so much for helping!! I really don't know what I would do without your & CityPlanner's videos - you two are the gold standard on YT!! Plus you have a nice voice - gives the feel like a nice friend is helping me with a hard challenge! 👍
