Holy skiz dude... I had no idea MIgardener was publishing stuff under a different channel almost a decade ago. Looking so young! 😊 This was a great video, man. Thanks!
I started my Vanilla orchid a year ago Feb 5 as a two foot cutting. It now goes up my trellis and splits. Sections are about as big around as my index finger. It is in indirect light with our other orchid and seems to be loving it.
@@Ang.0910mine produce Rocky Road. Just kidding of course. My 12 cuttings from EBay are doing well under LED lights. I use 5 gallon ziplock bags to keep the humidity up.
I don’t use sunlight. I have my vanilla orchids growing under 5000K LED shop lights in a large plastic storage bin inside of 5 gallon ziplock bags to keep the humidity up and the 12 cuttings I bought on eBay are all growing like crazy. Shop lights are as good of LED lights as more expensive Grow lights if you make sure the color is correct. I use 5000-6500K LED lights. I visit Santos Brazil and enjoy seeing orchids growing wild in the trees and at their orchid park(orchidaria) and buying dirt cheap orchids at shows there. I recommend it. The beaches are beautiful and the people are very friendly. Food is fantastic and very inexpensive. Greetings from Washington State. Great video! Thanks a lot.
I just received cuttings and we have dry air in Washington state so I put the cuttings on a chunky organic material and put everything in a large ziplock bag with an opening to allow air flow. I just checked after a week and there was root growth! I have them under an LED shop light with 5000k color. I visit Brazil often and in Santos there is an orchid park with thousands of orchids growing in the trees. They even have orchids in the trees along the sidewalks around the city. It’s orchid heaven. I bought about 20 orchids and left them at my girlfriend’s house and they are thriving. They were dirt cheap.
Just watch a vid and yes each bloom must be hand pollinated to produce a pod. If you live in Madagascar you don’t need to pollinate as that’s where they’re from. The rest of the world I guess doesn’t have the right insect/insects. Hope that helped. Here’s that vid. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A99bqKvyeEs.html
I can't believe it's you I follow your other channel you are fantastic but this is where I thrive in tropical sunny Florida south of the orchid capital of the United States I say thank you so much
Hi Mr. Luke! Yes, I did learn something new! And yea... I have questions... so my dad said I should grow vanilla (because lately I've been growing a lot of seeds to make into bonsai) and yea now that I know it's a vine that will change it up a bit... but I still love growing and this seems like a fun plant to grow. 1. Does it produce a lot of pods 2. Can I grow it from the pods 3. Does it take a while for it to sprout (the seeds) 4. If I grow the plant can I make trimmings to make more vanilla vines 5. Is 90°f-110°f Ok? (They'll most likely be indoor though) 6. If I can make cuttings, how should I cut them? (Idk if my bonsai cuttings are working or if cuttings just root very slowly. It's been about 2 1/2 months and I think I see a little bit of something growing out) 7. How long should it take for the cuttings to root? (If I can make cuttings) Thanks! (Sorry to annoy you about this 3 years later😅) P.s. I have never held a real vanilla bean in my hands
SavedByGrace ofJesus Wow, do I know you? I’m doing very well thank you. You sending this message rite at this moment was perfect timing. Thank you. Are you in Louisiana too?
I have a question. I'm in Memphis, TN, so obviously we get good heat and good humidity during the summer months. My question is, would it be alright to pot this in the house during the winter/cooler months and then take it outside in the warmer months? I want to grow it, but I just want to be sure I don't kill it with the price of the plants.
You forgot to say you can plant any and / or all of your cuttings to grow more plants. On that note, if you can get a cutting from an older specimen, it will cut your need to wait so long before you start getting blooms. You will need to pollinate the flowers yourself.
I just got my vanilla bean orchid. You didn’t mention soil. So do they get soil or just moss? 🤦🏽♀️I need help please. I live in upstate NY but am willing to try growing my BabyGirl out. Thank You for your help and videos! New Sub
Great video and great tips. I am growing mine in a mixture of the sphagnum moss it came in and orchid bark. It has a small bamboo stick next to it for when it starts climbing. It started it out just in the moss under glass but transplanted it a few days later. I am spraying it with miracle grow orchid spray and water.. The roots in the soil fell off during transplanting but are growing back. All the aerial roots dried up though. Any suggestions for getting more of those to grow. Right now it is growing in the bathroom to get steam from the shower.
How do you start vanilla from pod? I know you should buy a cutting but I'm one of them people who love to grow from seeds. I don't care about getting the vanilla pods I just enjoy the experience of of watching the growth of the plant.
huh i am growing my vanilla in fir bark mixed will moss and coco coir in a ratio of about 50/20/30 it seems to not mind direct fertilizers because of the mix i use. as well as it is very light and hold moisture very well.
Awesome video, just got four seedlings I NEED them to take. But why are you beating around the bush 😅 just tell me to put them in my little greenhouse 😂
Can you grow the vanilla vine in a Dutch bucket. 👍👍👍👍 like the video If you live in the Far East and in the dry season. The temperature goes up in the 100s. Would they still grow? Or what can't I do if they don't?
How do they do in DIY greenhouses? The ones with aluminum framing and translucent plastic covering? I also heard they take 12 years to mature enough to produce the bean pods. Do they die at that point or keep living/producing? If they continue living after they sprout pods will they do that (sprout pods) yearly or every 12 years or what?
***** Wow 12 years? someone gave you some misinformation. They take a minimum of 2-3 years to flower. And then the beans take about 6-8 months on the vine to mature enough to be picked. I have mine in a heated humidified greenhouse and they thrive. They also don't die after one crop, they can produce for a number of years. Like the guy said though, they need tropical conditions so if you have less than ideal conditions for them they will grow muuuuch slower. the 12 years thing might have come up because in the wild, the vines can climb 30 metre tall trees and as long as they're climbing upward like that, they generally don't flower until they reach the very top. So in the wild it can take longer, but in farms they train the beans in different directions to stimulate flowering. Also each individual flower has to be pollinated by hand if you want to get a bean from it.
Got a couple (plants I’m trying to make into 4 plants) Aquaponic vanilla I’m working on a video for vanilla in my Aquaponic more than crazy system(s..ess.es). Planning vanilla grown in a grow tent lining the walls and ceiling....etc. ....already added my Bluegill and Gold Hawaiian Tilapia videos..es.sesss s...much more in the future....probably! Thanks for the videos.
No, mine doesn’t... I have a mature plant that I self-pollinate to grow vanilla beans. While my blooms have a slight sweet scent while they are open, they don’t have that “vanilla scent” that you’re referring to. 🌸
@Jason Padilla I grow them outside on our open porch. They receive bright indirect sun all day. I live in Florida and it’s humid here, which they seem to like, plus I mist them often and they do really well. My plant is pretty huge (it’s in a large planter).
Osmosis Jones idk but vanilla is one of the most expensive spices and is in demand, so grow them you can get upwards of $5 a pod. I’m just not sure my black thumb is good enough to get the plant to flower. Good luck
great video. Curious! I would like to start growing some vanilla indoor. So is that possible and also do you sell the seeds? if so can you ship to new mexico? thanks
i just bought one and I have some questions,, I have a vanillia bean that has around three or four steams growing out of it,, would it be safe for me to remove them and transplant them seperate or just keep them together
In comparing sunlight needs to herbs; which would you compare it to? Herbs are about the only plants that I grow right now and that's what I know most.
Thank you very much for the video! I just received my 6in cutting yesterday and I'm getting ready to pot it. I guess I should have paid more attention to this video earlier and just bought the Moss instead of spending eight bucks on the Coco choir trip Park and another $4.50 on rooting powder LOL I'm sure I can find another use for the rooting powder or hopefully return it and I'll give my mother the Coco choir chip bark for her orchids or I'll buy some other orchids that will want to grow in that Medium. So I'm nervous about planting like cutting but I'm told they grow like weeds so this should hopefully work. Thanks again! I want to search for some more videos on growing vanilla on your RU-vid page, so hopefully there are some there
anyone here has grown the vanilla orchid in Canada? I just got one and I am concern since winter is coming and I want to give this baby a good home. It seems there's not many info regarding how to keep this plant inside during a Canadian crazy winter. Any suggestions or links with more info will be GREATLY appreciated :)
Very informative- thank you. The link for your store isn't working. Do you have a different website to order from? Is there a best time of year to order?
Oops thought I better put the country lol, just incase you dont know the states we have. I live in Australia, but right down bottom end of Vic so I don't think its going to be hot enough to even bother trying.what do you think?i mean its not tht cold here in winter,we hardly ever get snow in winter and it never gets minus or that but it is far from tropical.i am buying a greenhouse soon and might look into some solar powered heat pads to keep it warm at night and in winter etc.or I can bring it inside but my plce doesn't get a great deal of sun through windows.i would have to move it around to get sun all day I Spose.i get morning sun in kitchen and arvo sun in bed rooms. Cheers
Hi great channel mate,I am from lower end of Victoria and just wondering if its worth growing vanilla down here?i mean our summer would be ok but for winter will it survive ok just near the window inside or will green house be better?i have always wanted to grow vanilla,I love it...my favourite flavouring :)
My orchid vine grew all over a small tree in my backyard. I live in Hawaii. It had lots of flowers which I pollinated and grew into beans. I had about 50 beans. This year nothing No pods that flower. What should I do?
Does it have to be in moss or can I put them in regular soil?? Also can you grow clippings in water?? just ordered some clippings so not sure if I can put right into soil or if they don't have roots if I can put them in water to grow the roots
Jenn Lefrancois You generally can never grow any kind of orchid in normal soil, including vanilla. They need excellent drainage and room for the roots to breath.
what's the best plants i can grow in a REALLY hot dry weather " Saudi Arabia " for example! i really wants to grow nuts and beans ! what about vanilla growing in +95 degrees ? thank you!
I bought the tea plant 3-4 months and it only came with one plant in the container , but the video stated 2 for one in each pot , so what now ???? johnnyg
will it be okay if it is outside in 30's Fahrenheit for a few days, south Florida might not have a long winter but it does get that low sometimes. I'd like to grow it on a tree to make it more natural looking.
and secondly will it be fine on a Frangipani when it gos into it's dormancy. I'm trying to find an orchid that can take full sun to put in them so the don't look dead when they go dormant, so if you had some suggestions about that that would be awesome.
+daniel wallengren Can you make a movable, miniature, greenhouse like structure? That would give it year round health for the winter months. That is an easy and inexpensive construction. Best of luck.
