Thanks for the reminder of the 43 folder system. I used to use it when working as an admin - just got out of practice since staying home to take care of my parents - but it would work for all the dr info,etc.

Awesome idea!! A tip...Avery makes a paper protector insert, top loading, that is very inexpensive and would be a great alternative to the paper pages for the 31 days or the thicker folders. It perfectly fits the letter size paper folded in half. I bet most of us have that abandoned A5 on the shelf :-)

I love this idea and pressed it into use. I used my pink Domino A5, recycled old file folders and laminated some sadly, thin dividers that I have had sitting around. With nothing invested, but time, I now have a really useful system that keeps my desk clear. Happy!

This system is great. My mother always used it and taught me to use it when I started working. She originally used it when she worked in an office and she quit that job when she got pregnant with my oldest sibling. That sibling is in his 70's now. That's a hint at how old the system is.

This a great system!!! Once you laminate them, you could use a wet erase marker for little notes and wipe them off when it's time to go to the next month.

Thank you SO much for posting this... it totally just blew my mind. Using a planner (or several) has completely boosted my productivity in the past year but I could never figure out a way to integrate all my loose paperwork ... I just have boxes of "filing" to do and even my filing cabinet system needs a SERIOUS rework. This would be such a great way to get started on that. Thank you!!! Love your channel.

Just discovered you and your wonderful channel. This 43 folders idea is genius! I tried using a GTD tickler system on Evernote, but still needed a place for the paperwork that went along with the notes.It ended up in stacks, or filed in various and sundry places. I'm doing my planning in a couple of traveler's notebooks right now, but I pulled out my sweet old Dayrunner A5, ordered some pockets and monthly dividers from Amazon, and now I'm all set. My desk is so nice and neat, without the stack of "stuff to be done" sitting there, and I won't worry about missing a due date because everything is filed away in the A5 tickler behind the proper date.

Aww Annie you are so sweet! The mini binder is great because as someone pointed out, you can get ready made folders and top loading sheet protectors to use for your months and days that won't require any resizing or repunching with the mini binder!

Never thought of doing this with a Ff. Used it in the past (like 1980's) in file folders. It is really great idea. Might try this again with my monarch binder.

Awesome! I think its definitely worth a try if you are in need of a filing system. It's a little untraditional to use a filofax but its clearly do-able! Let me know how it goes if you give this a try!

great video. We used to use the Tickler system in an insurance office, pre computer days, and i had completely forgotten about it. Basically our "boss" used to give us tasks for the day, which were taken from her file - which non of us dare touch! I most definitely will re-introduce this system for our home planning.

Just an idea, but if u really wanted to write on the daily dashboards u could make a pretty blank check list on the front of each one, laminate the page, and write on it with a wet erase marker :)

Loved this! I totally agree on the fact that it has to be "fun" and interesting. Otherwise I will never get around to actually using it. At the moment I'm really struggling and finding ways to best sort out the way to conquer the jungle of information coming at me each day, via all sorts of channels... I will definitely try this!

I have been trying to complement my personal filofax for some months till now, because it can't have it all, but everytime I move to something bigger and/or "better" I want to get back to my filo (isn't it such a convenient size and a versatile system?). This video really helped me! I can totally see myself using one of my spare a4 binders for this 43 folders system. Great Video ! You are an excellent of the cuff speaker. You're right DavidAllen didn't invent the 43 file folder system it's been in existance since the turn of (19th )century, but it does work wonders. This is the first video of yours that I have watched ( PS you're gorgeous too boot). Are you familar with The Seven Habits and the Franklin Planners PDTL system? Prioritized Daily Task List? Important Vs Urgent. Great book DA is simply an upgrade to that system intergrated to a computerized mobil work environment.

Terrific video, and great idea to transplant the 43 folders into a binder. Having done that system with the actual folders and with an accordion sorter, I think this might be the way to go. I have a full-size handled binder with a croco embossing which will be a fun way to implement your ideas. Thanks so much for posting this!

I have a sloppy version of this that isn't working well so I'll be tweaking it from some of your great suggestions. But I was also wondering how you integrate the use of your personal filofax. Do you cross post due dates or put reminders in your personal that relate yo the A5? This is one area I struggle with in using two planner systems (a desk and take along filofax). Thanks!

Itsaplannerthing Thank you! I used to use the A-Z Filling cabinet in my personal, but that became too much for me as well! This A5 based 43 Folders system really keeps me on track and I like that its a separate binder so I can reference from it, but don't need it with me 24/7! I def will! Quick question on your list of supplies you said you used 16 sheets of colorful paper for the 1-31 day folders should it be 31 sheets since their is 31 days or did I miss something? Lol thanks!

Itsaplannerthing 16 sheets of 8.5x 11 paper that I then cut in half because A5 is roughly half a sheet of standard paper. Like I said in the video, I didn't make folders for the 1-31 days, I just took half a sheet of paper and it acts as a dashboard for the day. 16 pieces cut in half is 32 pages (with one to spare!) Hope this makes sense!

Angela Acheé Hmm, well it sounds like perhaps you need some sort of laminated insert (you could find a day on one or two page spread that may be broken in 15 minute increments and then laminate them so you can clean them if they get dirty. Thats my best advice.

If you want to use a Filofax, try an A5 Metropol, Domino, or other non-leather binder from Franklin Covey, for example.

Nels corner I have no problems with them! Sometimes they hit the tabs but I can normally arrange them so they don't interfere. Hope this helps xx

A lot of my productivity videos are longer because I have a lot of information to convey. If I make it too short I know I will have to skimp out on the information I provide and then my viewers end up having a lot of questions!
