Love that !!!!! Looks like the tips -that slide into lock are slightly angled and really lock it in when you drive the wedge. Any idea how much downward pressure would be needed to break that joint ? Looks really solid from the sides as a ridge beam I’d imagine that downward pressure isn’t quite as critical as maybe a floor joist

So there's a reason they dont do this type of stuff any more. Its because there are equivalent, better and faster ways of getting 2 ridge boards connected, even by yourself. Besides, after roof sheeting is installed which will lock the ridge in from separating, collar ties, ceiling joists, your fancy cut is only that. Then its cover by insulation and drywall, and forever forgotten. But you certainly accomplished wasting 10 or 15 unneeded minutes. On my crew, you would be told to never do that again, or youd be politely let go. Looks cool though. Maybe make puzzles instead.

Is it necessary to put a screw in either end or will the tightness of the joint after installing the wedge be enough to hold it?

The wedge it's self will stop it but just helps little extra 👍

Our Building Codes in the US will not allow a Scarf Joint as a Support board. They are definitely good joints through.
