The orchids that need winter rest can be so tricky especially when I'm a heavy waterer haha! But the Catasetums are gorgeous when they bloom so it's worth it! Great tips though and as always great video!!
Thank you very much for the information. My dendrobium Phalaenopsis is growing a new cane. The dendrobium nobile is growing kikies and new canes slowly. I brought 2 small nobiles at an orchid show. I will try not to ruin these. I was told to leave the keikis attached to my first dendrobium nobile that is barely surviving. It will grow a new plant 😊
I repotted the Dendrobium kingianum yesterday but I think it needs to be fertilized less based on what I read in the Orchid Whisperer. I bought this one at at orchid show in CT today from J&L orchids. It will be my second Dendrobium and it has a bunch of buds. Dendrobium Peng Seng (tobaense x cruentum)
just only a recommendation in dormancy period some orchids require 1 or 2 months reducing water and fertilizer such as many species of genus ASPASIA(Oncidiineae subtribe)
Yep its that time a year again! The catasetum types are so pretty but your right, they are a pain and huge when growing. Sadly. So i been steering clear too some what. I have worked too hard on my catasandra to let them go! 😂
I used to love them, and I still do but anything that requires slightly different care and gets big is a bit annoying when you're busy. I gave a lot of my catasetums away but I will do better with these this year. I just have to get them on lower shelves so that I can remember to water them more haha.
Your video was very helpful.. They are not my favorite orchids, but I do have some. I do have a spike on Ctsm. Mem. Dorothy wells. Should I start to water a little bit? Dear Nicole, can you pls make a video on how to take care of cattleyas in winter? I had so much trouble with black rot and brown rot this past season.I lost quite a few cattleyas, it"s so disappointing! I'm pretty sure, I gave them too much water. Hi there! With the cattleyas in winter, if the temps get lower they are definitely prone to rot. What are your temps? Do you grow indoors or out? Near a windowsill? If you have cool conditions, I would let them dry out as much as possible before watering again. Even if your conditions are warmer, it's possible that you watered them too often, so try giving them some good chunky. mix and let them dry out;. They don't go dormant, but they slow down their growth so don't need as much fertilizer in the winter. I hope this helps
@@NicoleDeanna I grow them at atound 18 Celsius degree and I cannot put them on window sills, cause my cat loves chewing on their leaves. Also I do not provide them with any artificial light supplement either, but I place them on bright areas. I grow them indoors as it's freezing cold outside in winter. Next winter, I'm gonna give them more light and less water. I'm thinking about getting a glass cabinet with light supply for them to keep them warmer and brighter. I'm looking forward to your spring growing season vids! New roots are on their way out this time of the year! 🤗
@@katiorchi7676 Indoor Cattleyas?Give them more light specially if they are bifoliates(2 leaves)water and keep them dry(use charcoal mixed with perlite and pellets balls of nitrocote)
Over the years I just keep it indoors now. The biggest challenge is when to start watering and I do that when I see the new roots are a few inches long.
I have a dendrobium pendulum and an anosum with a couple of buds. Should I start to water them now or should I wait? If I wait, when should I start to watering?
Me too LMAO. The MMM rests randomly whenever it wants, this time it rested with everyone else but it usually doesn't stop. With that said it didn't bloom this year, I hope there will be a massive show this year.
