It always amazes me how used to earthquakes and hurricanes some parts of the world are. I watched this video for tips on how to hand a large map, but it didn't even occur to me to worry about hurricanes and earthquakes, because where I live we don't get hurricanes, and we haven't had a major earthquake since 1884! Thanks for the tips though!

Wish you would have actually shown us HOW you did it. Lots of useful tips but no showing us what you did with those items step by step. The how-to😩😩

Alison2649 Others, below, have mentioned the same need - step by step instructions - but my answer to them is the same to you, I had hoped to give you some tips and guidelines but every situation is different. I'd be happy to chat with you on the phone about your particular situation and item that you want to hang. Call me on my mobile at 805 570 4140 Thanks for leaving a comment. Scott

I understand Karl. I hope it gave you some good ideas and here is another page that may offer other ideas. When talking about large, especially heavy, art installations its a custom job: https;//www.HangAFramedItemSafely.com

The value of the video is illustrating some of the precautions taken given the size and weight... and the location where it was installed. But there is no suggestion I can make for you to run down to the store and buy a piece of name brand hardware. The suggestion is to over-engineer the "mounting system." There are too many variables to suggest exactly what you need in your situation. If you do not know how to figure this out then get help from an art installation company, a cabinate installer, a fine finish carpenter, high end quality contractor. Perhaps the most important suggestion in the video was to utilize a shelf or bracing under the heavy artwork.

We are having a 4’ x 8’ picture. Artist painted acrylic on bambo sub laminate. A support frame and cross bars put on back side. A black wood frame will be around that. Do you put the hangers on the support system or on the frame?

Ever consider a French Cleat? They are as safe and maybe easier?
@ScottMHaskins
@ScottMHaskins 8 лет назад
+mrtonyadkins A French cleat is a good method but I would still encourage the brace along the bottom or (in addition) attaching the heavy item to the wall with an "L" brace to make sure it won't jump off the cleat during an earthquake, tornado, hurricane etc. Thanks for leaving your comment!

I have just purchased a large framed painting. I believe it is around 67" tall and 57" wide. I am unclear how the system you devised works. How do you attach the to the wall cleats there? Do you just hang on or is bolted screwed? thanks for any help you can offer.

I want to hang a large mirror about that same size as the painting in your videos. It's pretty heavy around 60lbs. Would I need to find the studs or would I be able to use anchors on something this large?
@ScottMHaskins
@ScottMHaskins 6 лет назад
Add the "shelf" or angle iron underneath as I showed with the large painting in the video. I just returned a heavy framed mirror, restored, to a lady which fell off the wall pulling itself out of the plaster cause they didn't hit the studs. There were about $2,000 in restoration done on the vintage frame.

Innovative but seems needlessly complicated and not professional hardware. Hanging on a cleat / z bar is much more the industry standard for a large piece. You can put T screws (or another cleat) on bottom if you are worried about earthquakes (and you wont see that from the bottom)

How much does that weigh?
@ScottMHaskins
@ScottMHaskins 4 года назад
The large painting and the frame featured in the video probably weigh about 75 lbs but that's not the only issue. As you can imagine, a 100 lb hanging hook you can buy at the hardware store would not do the job.

Scott M. Haskins I have a 250 lbs mirror- (well- a mirror that needs about 250 lbs of support) It’s huge and was very expensive. I’m having a very hard time finding anyone that could hang it for me
@ScottMHaskins
@ScottMHaskins 4 года назад
@@lilithssilvermoon3208 250 lbs is a lot to hang!! You will absolutely need to build a shelf under it for support. Do you live in an area with natural disasters like earthquakes, tornados or anything that could make the house shake? Email me, if you like, at faclartdoc@gmail.com or call me at 805 570 4140 as we can discuss.
