@@matthewlacey4198 imo yes 100%, I use the axes and hatchets, and hammers I hang, so if it's just a wall hanger it doesn't matter. But if your gonna use it, the little bit extra really helps keep the head on more tight, and for a much much longer period of time. That little bit on top helps the wedge spread the wood for a much tighter hold that lasts alot longer.
@@nstvntt7410 I think so, but I'm actually laughing for once. So if it is a joke, good job. I'm what you call a wood specialist, plus I've probably owned at least 20 axes over the years. My whole life might as well be a lie at this point, and every master smith I've personally known must have lied to my face.
Its crazy these sucks are all held on with friction. Nothing but friction. The universe is no longer able to support life without friction. We all need to respect friction. Imagine sliding out of bed no matter what and everything infinitely sliding off everything forever. Thank you friction.
My neighbor, former recon from the Nam era in his 70's, busted the handle on his spitting axe. Having some scraps of oak he asked if he could take one. With a pocket knife and some sand paper he made a great one in minutes as I was proud to bear witness from the porch.
@@ChemEDan lol👍 My room mate was trying to make bets as he did it in 10 minutes. We would have bought him a handle. He and his wife that was ten years younger were the best for many reasons. His wife being a little pistol that she was would bicker back and forth with him for further entertainment. You could tell what her mood was by looking at her hands. If there was a gun there, you knew. She was a good shooter too. But she always missed her husband if she fired at him. If she saw you in the store before you saw her she might sneak up and knock you in the arse with her shopping cart to say hello. He met God a couple years back in his early 80's while she's living in God's waiting room aka Fla.
@@scottdahl1938 Thank you, Scott, for sharing a little story about those lovely folks and your time as their friend. Hope your weekend went (or is going) very well. I count myself lucky to have stumbled upon your words.
@@christopherkarr1872 And to you sir, thank you. And of course thanks to the creator of this video for showing me the difference between over the top and outstanding. What he did involved a lot of love to those details. What my neighbor did was a paragon unto itself as there's no place you could buy a handle of that quality. Not just made fast but great. God bless and have a safe/ happy weekend yourself.
That Nordic cross actually represents the commonality of Nordic countries and their culture which is Protestant branch of Christianity. Sure there is top layer differences between Nordic countries but at the foundational level it is still same Christian beliefs among Nordic countries.

@@poomsproject thats where the term "hanging" comes from..which you didn't do. I did like how much wood you kept on the back edge. well maintained, that should last years if not decades
@@mtraven23 The reason I don't do, it is because the wood we use is hardwood. We have sharpened the handle to fit the axe head, hammering the end of the handle allows the ax head to enter the handle just a little bit. Of course, the wood that we use to make the handle is not suitable for pratical using, so we make it for collection and display. Hope you understand me. Thank you.🙏😊
@@ashthesmart1 because you dont even need to. but really because "hanging it" works it on squarley & uniformly. If you go banging on it you can set it crooked---which will ultimately fail prematurely.
its beautiful, but I was taught, it should have some resistance, and a uniform curl around the entire bottom of the head and seated tight before a wedge is ever introduced.
Thank you for your advice. I can't do that because the wood we use to make the handle is hardwood(ebony), when we hit the end of the handle it breaks. We did it for collection and display by the way.🙏😊👍
@@Nostradamus_Order33 Yeah that's right, if we have to make an axe handle for using, Hickory is a nice one but we would like to make an axe handle for collection and display as a work of art, so we have to choose a beautiful wood instead.👍😊
As a programmer, I am grateful to such people for what they are, because I myself would not even be able to do this drawing because of the shaking hands You're great, thanks!
After we’ve done this, we used to put the head of the axe in a bucket of water so the wood will get soaked full of water an spread itself. After this it is as thight as it coud get.
