Quick 6 month update, lights still look great and even withstood an ice storm! Also if you enjoyed this video, consider SUBSCRIBING :D It's free and helps out a ton! If you wanted to learn how to install pathway lighting that's even more straight forward then this install, check out this other video from me: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O8IVyCRBjgk.html

But I’m 100% doing this in my backyard this week! This has been super helpful. I pretty much had a rough idea of what to do and how but the turn buckles and the ferrel bits were clutch and I liked how you zip tied several at once before moving the ladder! I wouldn’t have thought about that straight away! Nice video!
@JohnHeng
@JohnHeng 3 года назад
Zip-tying multiple at a time were out of necessity actually 🤣 I would have had to dangerously be on the top step of the step otherwise. Glad this video could help you out!

Very practical approach and informative. May I add that cable connection durability can last longer if : 1. Have the end cables tied/locked not just by the hammered/crimped silver thing (sorry I think u call it ferrol). 2. The loop can also be protected by a metal shield so the cable is not the only one touching the eye hook at the end. I wonder if shower curtain holder would look nice as an attachment to the string lights ;)

Thank you for the 'How to' video! Great method. We have the same Costco LED lights. The bulbs fill with water! We are in Washington State, so we get lots of rain. I have had to replace them. The LED Bulbs allow seepage. Dang.

The only issue that I've had so far with the lights is that some of them die pretty quickly, I've had to buy an extra 24 pack off of Amazon. Haven't noticed any water yet but crossing my fingers

Run the cable through the eyelets on the bulb sockets before you crimp the ferrules next time to avoid zip ties altogether 👌

Great job man. I would recommend using small s hooks instead of zip ties for the lights bc zip ties degrade with the weather.

Hi Yes I agree. I'm here looking for a solution to that very problem. I used similar zip ties and after a year in the AZ sun...even being "UV resistant". They are failing.

I also agree about zip ties. The nylon will get brittle over time.

The long black ones? Those are weather resistant 3/8" lag screws, I think they might have been either 5 or 6" long. The silver ones are eyelets that are linked in the description if that's what you were looking for

Hey John, thanks for the useful video. Question for you: why do you use the S hook on one end of the wire? I was thinking maybe to easily take down if needed, but can’t it already be removed via the turnbuckle?
@JohnHeng
@JohnHeng 3 года назад
Thanks! I just used the s-hook to make it easier to hook stuff on since I was doing this by myself while also filming. I think some of the eyelets that I had, the turnbuckle wouldn't have fit directly also. You can definitely just use a turnbuckle, s-hook just makes it a little easier. Hope that helps 🙂
