Wallpapering a bathroom requires careful planning and preparation. Before you start, plan the placement of your wallpaper and mark the vertical plumb lines for accuracy. Make sure to center the faucet in the wallpaper design if you're using a patterned wallpaper.
Start by applying the wallpaper above the pedestal sink and smoothing it out from the ceiling to the floor. Align the edges of the wallpaper with your plumb lines and trim off any excess from the top using a sharp blade.

Understanding Relief Cuts
Relief cuts are small cuts made in the wallpaper when wallpapering around a sink, toilet, window frame, or any other irregular object or surface. These cuts allow the wallpaper to fit snugly around the object and create a smooth, seamless finish.
Relief cuts are made by folding the wallpaper and making several small cuts to enable it to bend and wrap around the object without tearing or stretching. Relief cuts are essential for a professional-looking wallpaper installation, especially in a bathroom where there are many obstacles to navigate.
Using Relief Cuts to Wallpaper Around a Sink
When you reach the sink, make relief cuts to help wrap the wallpaper around the edge. Start with a rough horizontal cut about 1 inch from the wall. Make additional relief cuts along the sink edge and wall to help the wallpaper fit tightly.
If possible, use a putty knife to tuck the wallpaper behind the sink and trim off the excess using a sharp blade. After the wallpaper has fully dried, apply a thin bead of clear silicone caulk along the edge for a seamless finish.
