Today I'm harvesting love-in-a-mist. This is an old fashioned flower that packs a punch. You can use it as a fresh flower, fresh seed pod, or dry the seed pods for a beautiful everlasting flower.

I am amazed that you are sowing snandragons in the fall... when are you sowing the love in a mist? Any tips ?

Couldn't really see the different stages. We needed close ups to see what you were talking about thanks anyway!

Hi Danielle, I really appreciate your videos the information you give is so helpful. I tried growing nigella last year in a seed tray. It germinated but when I transplanted it into my garden it died. This year I planted the seeds directly in the garden and they are coming up. I planted them in the spring do you think that they will still bloom? Should I have planted them last fall? I'm in zone 6B as well. Your garden is beautiful.

Hi Cindy! Yes, they should definitely bloom for you this year! I find a fall sowing produces longer stems that bloom earlier, but a spring sowing will still perform wonderfully.

Will the flowers finish turning colors after they’re cut?

Is damascena Nigella WHITE color for eating? Some people say it is toxic.

Can you use it internally?

iv not long planted these in tray and grown indoor by my window. Only grown 6 in the try so far, 4 are in their 4/6 leaf stage and are flopping to one side and not staying straight. i assume because they were not buried deep enough?

Hi there! What zone are you in? Nigella prefers being direct seeded into the ground. I plant mine in zone 6b 8 weeks before the first frost to flower the following spring.

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm hey! i live in the UK. I am aware that they can grow fine outside :) However I worried as the weather was really unpredictable and its my first time growing them, i wanted to watch how they grew without any risk of pests destroying them during the early stage. (I am using my garden plants as a way to self study in plant science) I have other plants outside fine, but my Alyssum brings in loads of caterpillars and my formal Dahlias & my potatoes bring in a lot of snails. My succulents, zinnias, African daisies and sunflowers got hit hard. I haven't used any pesticides as i am trying to see how nature does it's thing and i have pets and i didn't want them licking anything that my cause harm by accident. So i just hand remove when i see pests. I think they are ready to be moved out of the tray and into pots now, I have been looking for time-laps videos to see if they are growing correctly but I couldn't find one. When they are small, are they meant to lean to a side and then grow straight? they look very healthy green and healthy leaves. i just currently feel like they need more top soil to help balance out, It is like they are too top heavy for the stem, looks similar to how my Alyssum grows .

I want to grow Nigella papillosa this next year, but I am in 4a. Do you think I should start it inside and bring it out after danger of frost is gone? Or winter sow?

I did winter sowing with the love and a mist. And it work wonderfully.

Hi Danielle, curious to know do you put you seeds in the refrigerator before planting in the fall?

I'm a bit confused about this flower... I know that allowing your flowers to go to seed prevents them from flowering again... But, I'm not sure this is the type of flower that when cut will come again? Or, if I take off the seed pod, will that just be it anyway? Or, will this keep blooming like zinnia or snapdragons? Mine are going to seed pod now... they are beautiful but I'd rather have some flowers right now. I have a few of these in summer pots but I don't know what to do with them! HAHA HELP!
@NorthlawnFlowerFarm

Hi Anon! Love in a Mist is a One and Done Flower. Unfortunately, it's not cut and come again like a zinnia. Once the flower turns to a seed pod that's it for that branch. To have more nigella throughout the season it's best to succession plant it. I hope that helps!

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm! Thanks for responding... so, I could plant more seedlings throughout the summer you're saying? Not all is lost?
@NorthlawnFlowerFarm
@NorthlawnFlowerFarm 4 года назад
@@ShayLaRae75 Yes definitely. You could do a sowing every 2-3 weeks. Just take into consideration your first frost date to know when to stop
