We have 3 Christmas Club accounts at a couple of supermarkets that I put $10 in each weekly. The money is available from 1 Dec meaning any money I put aside in December is for next year. Initially I was going to do it so I wouldn't have to pay for groceries over the summer (southern hemisphere here) instead for a number of years now we have been able to bless a family or 2 by taking them shopping as a gift (usually someone I know who is struggling). It is such a blessing to participate in and there is still plenty of money for us to use for our Christmas meals as well as groceries over a good month or more.
For me the “holidays” begin in the beginning of November, so last year I began saving at the end of October so that I could have a full year to save. In my budget I include thanksgiving and any holiday associated expenses like going out to Christmas activities too. It has been a GAME CHANGER. We so often forget about the little things like the extra dinners and tips, decor, Christmas shows, etc, so starting the savings 1 year before the holidays begin makes a huge huge difference! (Especially in stress) 😊
I loved that you talked about the Christmas priorities before gifts. I see so many people putting gifts above traveling to see family, to me spending time is more important than the gifts!

Very helpful video - thank you!! Some things I add to budget: stamps for cards, wrapping paper/tags/ribbon (if needed that year), cookie baking supplies (I try to squirrel away a little extra from grocery envelope when possible for this), batteries. It’s always the little things like that which surprise me!

I have a completely separate bank account and debit card for Christmas. We save for Christmas every pay check and when we're ready to start shopping or buying, that money is easily accessed with that card. Super easy peasy and the money is out of sight and out of mind since it's through a separate institution.

I'm going to apply your Christmas budget in 2020. My reason is, I'm finish Christmas shopping in July. I'm now shopping for 2020. Now that I'm on my journey to become debt free, I'm planning to visit my son in Texas for Christmas in 2020. These Christmas worksheets are going to be the normal for me from now on. I Christmas shop at Goodwill, Goodwill get lots of new tag items and most are under $5.00. I'm talking about sweaters, perfume, towels, all kinds of things that come in new. Those are the things I buy for gifts. I have a long list, but there gifts are all under $5.00. I do agree with you, I had to downsize my gift giving about three years ago and I'm happy about it. I thank you for your channel. I fill more in control of my money. I have over spent on my grocery and miscellaneous, but this was my first month and first time with a written budget. I'm going to do better in December. Do you have any suggestions for not going over budget? I like the envelopes, how can I get them? I also purchase your Paycheck Journal. I'm so excited about it. awesome timing! i actually had just printed off the christmas budget kit yesterday morning & after dinner i see you uploaded this video :D thx Miko :) Learning to say no is so hard...i dont know what to say & it is something i'm working on in all aspects of my life, that it's ok to say no ;). self preservation lol. I LOVE your videos. :) i got a late start on my cash budgeting & christmas saving but its something you just gotta start NOW & work towards & every paycheck more kinks seem to be working themselves out & i get better at understanding what money i need for what & where it goes & how to allocate it :). This year for Christmas I told my family we are opting out of the family draw and this year is only about our daughter. Us adults are not giving or receiving gifts. We just don't have the funds as we are moving in december. But i'm already planning a sinking fund for Christmas 2020 so we can have a happy stress free debt free christmas next year :)

I love gifts but I have been known to "cancel" xmas in the past but I dont have children. Some years I buy ppl bday gifts and no xmas or I may do xmas and no bday gifts. I tell ppl I'm not giving and I dont want or expect to receive. I refuse to go in debt to buy gifts. My love for you isn't predicated on my gift. Love this vid.

My husband and I have 14 people to buy for not including one another. We set a price for each person based on who they are to us. For example, our parents get the most money spent on them, then our siblings, then our nieces and nephews (because their gifts tend to be cheaper).

It is very hard to say no, especially when it's close relatives making you feel very crappy about it. As a minimalist, I really don't like getting gifts myself. I would prefer someone save their money or put something towards my kiddos instead! (I have 3). Since having my first, I definitely eliminated people and events and only do the ones that are most important but it is still tough! Thank you for the video :)

I think I would skip the homemade soaps and just stick with a card. I think often these "homemade" gifts are similar to the "teacher" gifts that go directly into the donate box or garbage. A hand-written, meaningful note or card, is so much more appreciated than just filler "stuff". I have bought more supplies over the years to "make" soaps, candles, mixes in mason jars, etc. Then when I think though all the folks I want to gift, I can't imagine anyone would want any of it..

I only spend 200-300 at Christmas for gifts. My family just opens gifts and eats homemade lasagna for dinner. My parents have all the decorations so I don’t have that expense yet. Also my family is only me, my brother/sister in law, nephew and parents so that’s all I buy gifts for.
Love her and love this! Only thing I would add is that real Christmas trees are more environmentally friendly because they encourage Christmas tree farming, which means people plant trees on land where the normally wouldn't! And fake trees are made in factories in China. Splurge on a real tree - better for the environment and smells amazing!!

i get you but its in Possible to cut out certain people out of my budget. my big fat ecaudorin family from my mom side only. we are 50 people every christmas . i only buy 17 people . my newphews and niece are my life they get more of my budget. lol i love to see my family happy its only one time a year.
Now they are older we pick a name out the hat and give 40 euro's for one gift. the first year. in the years befor 50 each for mine kids and adults. i am so happy, because i want that they learn it is about the people not the money you give as gifts.
Miko does not use card stock. I think she uses 28 pound paper. Don’t forget she makes new ones every month so they don’t have to last/be very sturdy. I do use card stock because I use them for sinking funds so I want them to last. I use a wallet with plastic dividers for cash. I keep most cash home in a pouch with dividers. In my wallet is my personal $, some miscellaneous category $ and any cash I know I need that day (for instance if I’m going grocery shopping I will take this week’s allotment of food $)!
