Yes, my plan is to do the other side as well so that I have a walkway of thick red roses. First I have to prepare the soil than plant the plants. Was to busy this sprog to do so, I'll do it this coming year.
These are spectacular roses! This is an established group of roses. As long as there is not too much die back during the winter (cold zones) they will get better every year.
They are so easy to grow and propagate and they grow like weed. Only problem I have my bush has a LOAD of flowers and looks super healthy but it doesn’t go bushy. It has 2-3 thick stems they put out all the flowers
@@brandontillery2715 that’s literally what I just did. Let’s see how it’s gonna go in spring. And not wasting those cuttings either. Sticked them in sand with honey, let’s see if we root. Chopped it all to around 40 6” cuttings. Experimenting experimenting ;)
Spring time. I start by cutting off all the leaves and I'll cut the stalks about 6 inches long. Than place in good potting soil and keep moist until they root and regrow their leaves.
Brandon, your yard looks amazing. I'm trying my hand with the knockout roses too. Question: After you mulch with a wood chip type of mulch, how do you fertilize twice yearly? I haven't figured out how to use Shake and Feed granular fertilizer to work, the little pellets just sit on top of mulch and don't seem to be melting into the mulch via a good water-in. Please share how you fertilize yours? I'm in Houston TX where everyone has knockout roses, they are so beginner friendly! Liked your video, thanks! 🌹
Thank you for supporting my channel!!!! I live in Beaumont and I use basically what you use. I built an in ground sprinkler system to help me with watering. The granular fertilizer will slowly release and break down over time. It will release little by little, not all at once. I fertilize early spring and early fall. Cut the roses back every spring and they will vigorously pop with roses. The fertilizer you're using will continuously release all year long. Make sure your fertilizer is specifically for roses.
@@brandontillery2715 so even though I see the pellets sitting on top of mulch, you think it's slowly working it's way down? I use a shake and feed specifically for roses. Thanks again!
Yes and it turns the leaves yellow. Roses like their roots soaked but do not like their leaves wet. Don't over water with daily continuous watering or you'll cause root rot.
@@brandontillery2715 Hi Brandon, how does heavy rainfall affect this type of rose? I’m in South TX and hurricane season is hit or miss. Beautiful roses, Sir! 🏆I want to try my hand at planting soon. Will a double knockout pink type take as well as the red?
I buy it from my local nursery and spray it. It's a non pesticide so it doesn't kill my pollinators. It just makes the leaves a bitter taste to critters that want to eat them.
@@brandontillery2715 Thank you, I'm in south Louisiana. Some people say 3 feet, but I believe closer would be better fullness!! And what type of mulch?
I live in a gated residential neighborhood so fortunately I don't have that issue. I actually make tea from the flowers myself though. You can also dice up the flower, dry the moisture than add to sugar and its beautiful and flavorful for drinks like green tea. Great aroma also. Health benefits.
