To all the worried parents, you're doing everything you can and you're doing great! I sometimes still struggle with eating because of sensory issues and I'm 24. I now know I can't handle mushy and slimy foods, so I can work around it, but my mom said she really struggled to make me eat for a long time. It's a really hard situation, but never lose hope and don't blame yourself! You can get through this!!
Im in a similar boat, im 13 one thing that my mom's done is put some veggies (spinach, avocado, ones with more subtle flavor and textures) in fruit smoothies, there is a slight difference in texture but for me its been fine.
@@anchiemalveda6793 I assume OT means Occupational Therapy? I don't think she did. She didn't know that anything was "wrong" with me so I assume she didn't take me to any therapy. But I've heard from other people that OT works for them/their kids, so I think it's worth a try! And maybe also remember that the form in which the calories come is less important that the calories themself (in my opinion at least). I'm here if you want to ask me anything. You can do it!
To anyone that is watching this video, whether it’s for yourself, or for your kids, I hope you know that you are doing your best. I’m turning 14 later on this month, and I have a sensory processing disorder. When I first got diagnosed at 2, my parents took me into OT to get to eat more stuff. I became able to eat soft candy stuff, and that has always been one of my main foods. Now as a 14 year old, I can eat some kinds of chicken (tenders, nuggets, breasts, wings, rotisserie, teriyaki), I eat ground beef (sometimes I can’t eat it), I can eat burgers (sometimes), apples, granola bars, pizza (pizza is my safe food when it comes to SPD), quesadillas, tacos, fajitas with bell peppers. My only two fruits and veggies that I eat are apples and bell peppers, but the bell peppers have to be cooked. I have been thinking about going back to OT to enable myself to eat more nutrient dense food which I wish I could eat. It’s difficult knowing you so badly want to do something, but my spd holds me back. I hope these food choices help anyone out there with their kids or themselves when it comes to adding more variety into their diet. And if anyone has any advice for me, I would greatly appreciate it ❤️

You just described my 3 year old son. He quit eating almost all of the foods he loved, and only wants non chewing foods. Yogurt, applesauce, berries etc....

Hey I just found this video and I’m going through something similar. He’s 4 and will only drink things from a bottle, has major texture aversions. I have been playing with different textures to encourage him, today we tried mashed potatoes and he got so, so upset at me 😢 was wondering what kind of approach you did and what success you had 🙏🏼
@@trixie1636 first i assessed what texture/flavor he most disgusted too. Turns out he hated mushy texture the most. In terms of flavor he hated savory/dull type flavor. So the first thing i do was try to change his favorite biscuit to another brand of biscuit. Then change to sweet buttery roasted bagguette or bread(crunchy). After 9 month seeing him and passed the bread n other type of biscuits, i tried to change the food type, but failed miserably. 😭 After that i’ve suggested her parents to see my senior therapists at another center to try different approach because my approach has met a plateau result. Hopefully that kid is healthy now.

I am in tears watching this. I'm at a complete mental breakdown with my 2 year old and his sensory disorder. Feeding is such a struggle with him. He is in OT and has a special needs pre k teacher but I don't know what to do anymore with his eating habits. :(
I feel your pain..my 20 month old daughter is in speech and occupational therapy,and although shes improving, the eating aspect is still very difficult because she wont try anything new and she gets turned off from the few foods she does eat sometimes,which makes her food choices even MORE limited..shes a healthy weight, but I cant help but be concerned about her nutrition or if there will ever be an end to this because it's very frustrating

I’m 28 and I still struggle with certain textures. Pasta sauces are the way I carry most nutrients into my body as the textures of veggies are still an obstacle for me.

I have a Grand Daughter who was born with sensory issues Because she was born addicted to Opiates. Heroin, Mom was Smoking FENTYNAL While my Grand Daughter was in Utero 🤦♀️😞 Baby had an NG feeding tube after Birth because she wouldn't suck her bottle to eat. Baby ended up with a G-Tube & still has it & is Now 1yr & 5 mos. This is so Frustrating because she now is VERY picky & I know now what a baby/Child struggles with food textures & I Still find myself making separate snacks & meals all day long & is VERY frustrating since she struggles with being underweight. Baby now only eats Gerber Grain & Grow flavored Puffs & veggie puffs, Fruit melts, Tiny pastas chicken noodle soup she does on occasion eat chopped up chicken She also enjoys Green & Blk olives with cheese & Crackers! She also sometimes enjoys the Fruit & Veggie squeezable pouches 🤷. She also has a hard time with most vegetables & fruits however she does enjoy Chopped up mangos & peaches. My nephew refuses to eat anything solid. All his food has to be pureed and there can be absolutely no lumps or he stops everything immediately. He only drinks water from a cup with a straw and absolutely refuses to try juice. We wish he would eat a fry or chicken nugget....sigh. He's three years old and therapy isn't readily available. Are there any online resources that we can access? Would be greatly appreciated.
Omg Same issue with my almost 2 year old. only thing solid she eats are fries/potatoes wedges and biscuits. the real food/fruits has to be pureed but she can handle small bits in her food.
@@sheebha1 we finally got him into therapy. The therapist noted that he needs to learn to chew and to also get comfortable with different textures in his mouth. So she's working on that. It's a painfully slow process and he's pretty head strong. Sigh. We're just taking it one day at a time and try to reinforce at home what ever he does in therapy.

Hey! I hope you are doing well. I really want some of your guidance and help regarding my 1.7 year old baby girl. She has done breast feeding and have always refused bottle so I have only breastfed her for about an year. After she turned 6 month old I started giving her purees and she was very much into purees so she was having different purees 3 times a day and a snack which was also a puree. But now she is 1.7 years old and still cannot swallow any chunk if I give her. I don’t have any idea what to do now how to make her chew and eat and do not vomit all the food she had earlier. If I will not give her puree food which is usually a cup full amount at a time then she would not ask for anything or take anything in her mouth. What should I do should I suddenly leave all the puree and start giving her soft food or what ?

I have a new patient that only drinks milk/protein shakes (from a bottle) that sometimes she purées potatoes or veggies into. He will vanilla Oreos and that’s about it. Unless it’s hidden in the milk, he won’t go near it. I’ve been giving him different putties and slimes, kinetic sand etc to play with and it’s going ok. Today I tried to sit with him and have mashed potatoes and he got so so upset I feel awful 😢 I would love some advice on how to approach it without completely traumatizing him

my 2.5 year old does the same. he only wants do drink milk from a bottle and makes disgustful face if given in a cup. he can only eat dry and crunchy or crumbly food. he can not eat anything that is even slightly wet.
My daughter is 1.7 year old and she is not taking solids other than very runny purees and smooth purees sweet and salty both but she only takes purees and doesn’t take any hard or semi solid pieces in her mouth. I started giving her purees when she was 6 month old till now she is not taking anything. Tried to transition her to semi solids and finger foods but she vomits or rejects everything. She can stays hungry for 6 hours easily that is why I have ti give her puree so she could eat something at least. She has not taken bottle milk as well so she was on breast milk solely. Now I need any advice or guidance what approach should I take as I don’t have any facility of special health care personal for this specific problem here in Pakistan. She is perfectly normal kid but transitioning is quite difficult for me. Should I completely skip purees and give her semi solid things or should I wait until she grows older and able to understand she has 4 teeth in upper jaw and 4 teeth in lower jaw. Can anyone help me please. I don’t want her weight to drop as she is 11.9 kg right now. And on and off have cough and flu seasonal.

Hi. I'm also a pakistani but living in sierra leone in africa so no proper healthcare services here either. My 2.5 year old struggles with textures.. he never wanted to eat anything except crunchy and dry things.. up untill year 2 i have been forcefully feeding him pureed food.. every mealtime was a wrestling game because i would have to grab his arms legs and mouth and shove the spoon in his mouth.. but after 2 years he started to spit everything out.. he still cant eat proper meals just 3-4 bites off of biscuit or bread or crackers and topping off with milk in a bottle. he doesn't like milk in a cup. his weight is 12.5 kg but it goes up and down all the time. I'm just hoping he would learn to eat when he grows up. Untill then i would have to make alternative measures to provide him some nutrition. I mix egg in his milk and boil or sometimes i blend nuts or corn starch
