HOW TO HIPSHOOT

This is a how to hip shoot video. Hip shooting and fast draw with a single action revolver are two different things. Hip shooting without fast draw is a safe activity as long as you are hitting at or near where the target is. Always be aware of where your bullets are going to go.
Never fast draw single action revolvers with live ammunition. Doing so is dangerous.

My father always told me that he was born at the wrong time. That it should have been back in the old west. So I have so much appreciation and love for that time. The skill and dedication to the style are also nothing short of amazing. Your handling of firearms and instructions are spot on. You sir are a master at what you do and I love your videos.

Great presentation of the subject.👍 I shot barebow with a recurve from the '50 up to today. When doing so, I don't see the arrow, only a concentrated stare at the spot I wish to shoot. Through repetition, and the mind seeing the intended spot, this becomes an unconscious action. The arrow went where I was looking. If I looked off from the spot I intended to shoot, I'd miss. When I was a peace officer, I trained every day with my S&W M28 357Mag 4". Applying the same principles of barebow shooting, I was able to hit everything that I looked at within a reasonable distance. The mind is a remarkable computer, able to process nearly everything it is fed. Today, I'm working with a SAA in 45Colt, but I train with a similar weapon in .22 rimfire. Grip angles are different from the DA revolvers I carried for years. Just need to feed the right data to my brain. And even in my 70's now, I'm still able to employ the same discipline to point shooting as I did in my youth. Nothing's changed except for the weapon.

I always heard some people talk about muscle memory/instinctive shooting.
@anangryranger
@anangryranger Год назад
Yes, Tuco's demonstration of the lazer device puts that into prospective. Repeated movement, can become second nature, much like flipping a light switch without barely a glance. His use of that valuable tool really accelerates the learning. My learning of this was decades ago, and many arrows, and later, bullets, gradually would hit where I looked. But it took repeated movements, and most of all time. Years ago, I responded to a robbery in progress at a little store/cafe' with two suspects. I encountered them as they emerged from the place. At 20 ft, they raised their 9mm's at the "gangster tilt", and I drew and fired two shots from the hip. Both went down before they got off a shot. Muscle memory, and training kicked in without much thought. Instinctive shooting? Yes, but it was really do to repeated training that kept me standing on the sidewalk, and the others lying on it. The instant it went combative, I was reacting to the threat, based upon training. Today, fight hogs and coyote that run my woods. But the methods are the same.
@dougmulle2627
@dougmulle2627 Год назад
Thoroughly impressed! It sounds like you did it the right way with the right state of mind. Tuco did a short on the same thing, but basically the weapon becomes an extension of you
@anangryranger
@anangryranger Год назад
@@dougmulle2627 Well, I was recently offered a grand for my trusted old S&W M28. I respectfully declined. I felt like I was being asked to sell a lung or a kidney. That weapon was with me for 24 years of a 28 year career as a peace officer. Went through three shootings with it. Yes, it was an extension of my hand. It's going to my nephew, a fine man that respects such things.

This is a great alternative to live ammunition and will pay for itself in the savings of ammo, especially at todays prices! I learned to “point shoot” with a semi auto on the governments dime… but since I retired and started shooting SAA I found it’s a little different… as the SAA naturally points much easier. I do a lot of practice with a Plinkerton .22lr because it is a lot cheaper and it’s a real shot. Thanks for the great advice and another great video! Keep ‘em coming! 😎👍

Wonderful videos and even I train every now and then in this way as I can. The dirty old west was a little different: street duels were very rare, also because it was easy to be hanged from the first tree by people. You couldn't enter the saloons with Colts and the most common clashes took place around the gaming tables, with small revolvers hidden under the jacket. Ambushes and revenge as the mafia does today were common: a blow to the head or to the back. Self-defense was possible even when one was threatened with death. So you could shoot when you met the guy, without having to challenge him to a duel.

very good info. I practice with the Umarex 45 colt old army bb revolver. You get 50 good shots off the co2 gas 12 gram . I later converted the bb gun to shoot 43 caliber paintballs using real brass cases. The simulation to the real steel is pretty good. It's not the same weight as the real 45. But , it does give you the hand/eye cordination that works with the real guns. And a whole lot safer.

A good way to learn/practice hip-shooting is to practice with a BB gun or pistol. Far cheaper, quieter, and also can be done in a lot of places where you can't shoot firearm's. Good for about 40-50 feet , I don't think people will hip shoot past that distance. A suggest a Red-Ryder BB gun. And/or a standard CO2 pistol.

Everyone else tried it out once or twice before dinner and then left it alone, but I grabbed one and drilled with it for a few hours. Shot a 39 the next day at the range. Only missed my first target because the zeroing was a little off on that rifle.

Great video, thank you for the tips! I have been resisting getting the lasers but I can see how it would save so much money and time for training the eyes. Question... I was pondering this the other day: do you think that in the old west people practiced way less with their firearms due to ammo cost/availability, or do you think they practiced more due to the importance of being proficient?
@TUCOtheratt

Very little practice in the Old West. Ammo and every other necessity back then was more expensive by comparison and people had far less $. A few exceptions were Billy The Kid spent money on ammo and practiced regularly. Hickok cleared his cap and ball 51s each evening and got a little practice.

Tuco I'm new to the channel but I love the way you shoot, where did you buy the revolver, the revolver holster, and the belt?

Thanks for watching! I shoot several single action revolvers. Mostly Pietta Great Western 2 revolvers. I have several leather rigs, both made by me and custom ordered from professional leather gun rig makers
