Remember to move your feet with a lot of intensity when setting up for a high forehand. Do not set your feet too early and become stationary. You never know how the ball is going to react off the bounce. 💪💪

Great lesson! I usually wait for the ball to come down before I hit leading me to crash into the fence many times! :D

Thank you, Nick. It gets even more difficult when having to hit a high ball that is moving away from you, ie on a high cross court ball. I find it very difficult to put any weight onto such shots, cause most of the times I find myself not quick enough to move towards the ball. Great video, thank you.

take the shot at the chest area on it's way down (or if u have a pro timing then do it on it's way up at the chest area)

Good video, these high loopy moonballs to the baseline are the most annoying for me. I handle shorter ones great with swing volleys and crush them easily. Also deep heavy spin shots are no problem because the ball has alot of action and penetration. But these extremely slow very high loopy moonballs to the baseline are annoying, im not used to them and rarely play against them, and then I struggle with them.. I mean getting the ball into play is not a problem but being very aggressive on these balls is hard.. and then if ur opponent keeps doing it over and over it gets boring, specially for a first strike aggressive shotmaker that I am and don't really like grinding long points over and over. Its also so easy underestimating the ball because its so slow and then the footwork becomes sloppy and extremely easy to misshit the ball.

It looks like we're the wrist and the angle it makes to the end point of the racket is straight with a bit higher than the wrist and grip. Then move around so you can react. Thanks

Hello Nicola. Great instructional video. You are a highly qualified professional. Very few people explain what to perform special strikes in non-standard situations. For example: when there is little time for swinging. When you run forward. When running out of the sideline, if the opponent has made a side blow. How the legs move: when the knees are straightened, when the knees are bent at the moment of impact and after impact. When to move to the front of the foot, when through the heel. How quickly to take a position after the strike, which movements are better for each situation. Good luck to you and a friendly handshake from faraway Russia. Victor

What do you think about slicing high shots? I had some success doing that but I was not a pro. It seemed like a high percentage and effective technique to me.

For sure this is the best tennis channel online. Great video, but one part is not very clear to me. When you say to "hit across", you would still drop the racquet under the ball a little bit? Thanks and again great lesson

tennis 92, thank you so much. At the 3:35 mark I discuss how to approach the ball. You can approach under the ball or at the same height of the ball. The latter is easier in my opinion. Rafa always comes from under even on high FH’s.
@tennis9281
@tennis9281 5 лет назад
@@IntuitiveTennis yes i find quite comfortable to start a bit under the ball and I can still hit very flat like that. Same height makes my swing a bit too stiff. I noticed that when you show some examples at minute 7.20, you come up to the ball too. Am I right? Thanks again
@IntuitiveTennis
@IntuitiveTennis 5 лет назад
tennis 92, that is a good observation. It looked like I came up to that one. Maybe bc I waited for it to come slightly down.
@tennis9281
@tennis9281 5 лет назад
@@IntuitiveTennis that' s actually what is happening.! Last observation would be that whenever we focuss on hitting it at the right height, we intuitively can' t be too wrong on that. Would you think so?
@IntuitiveTennis
@IntuitiveTennis 5 лет назад
tennis 92, I agree, advanced players will make these adjustments intuitively.

Thank you for this video! It really helped me on another level. Im 14 years old and I used to play many sports. Tennis was my fav but recently I went to an academy with skilled players and i honestly looked like an amateur because of this and instead of locating the problem i tried to go back even further with high balls. So thanks

This has been so helpful playing doubles for my club a number of good opponents were hitting many high forehands on hard courts where bounce really high I couldn’t do it and now I know how to and started to work in practice matches. When you actually hit the ball you really attack it and hit it at chest height or even higher. That seems the key other coaches on RU-vid don’t do that but that seems to be the essence of returning and putting pressure on your opponent so I am very excited to continue to develop this shot for all court use. Brilliant tuition 🙏🏼

Hi Nick, are the principles the same if you have an eastern forehand grip? Or is there something else you have to watch out for?
@IntuitiveTennis

It’s a little more difficult bc of the position of the hand in that particular grip but yes same principles

I have a decent forehand, but when I play with a semi western but my pinky is hanging off the racket, I played like that for almost 2 years and then I tried to correct it for almost 7 months but the muscle memory they haven’t built up in almost 2 years, made it impossible for me to change my grip pretty much, what do you recommend is it wrong to use a type of grip that I have.

What rec players, especially adults need to do and what they are able and prepared to do are light years apart. They don't have the time and resources to practice hitting thousands of balls to get the footwork, racket work and bodywork right. Juniors who do 3 or 4 2hr after school clinics a week and summer camps on court 5-7 hours a day for 2 months have a chance.

I watched this video last night and was able to execute this today. I used to only know how to hit topspin forehands and i wanted the balls to move quicker. I like these because I don't give my opponent time to recover nearly as much.

Hey Nick another great video! Would you be willing to do a video where you are discussing weight transfer when hitting different type of forehands? You've done a video when it comes to pull-back vs pull around..how about a video on the regular forehand when you have plenty of type to setup? What is the right weight transfer? Can i put the weight on my left leg as a right handed and initiate the forhand swing? Thanks

Thanks for the great video. 2 questions: is the contact point with the ball is more to the side than diagonal in front? Is there a one-handed high backhand? I struggle with high balls towards my backhand and I have a one-handed bh so I go for the slice or I have to step back and take it when it becomes medium height and go for the normal bh but sometimes I stumble and lose focus or I step back too far (or the ball loses pace) that I end up with reaching to the ball with a slice which doesn't look good at all and it becomes too easy for the opponent.

Thank you so much. Your videos really transformed my gameplay drastically to the better especially in the serves. I like your way in explaining the different methods in execution and why and how they differ. I don't like coaches that apply their ways without understanding that my body doesn't do what they want me to do. I try all your methods that you explain and find the suitable for my body and I stick with it. So, thank you everything :).

Hi Nick, this is the first video of yours (I've watched a lot lately) where I've seen you pause and hold in your take-back of your swing, especially during the load/unload of swingvolleys 7:15 - you've always espoused a smooth and continuous swing. Is the high forehand return the one potential exception to this rule or can/should the weight shift on the feet happen with a continuous swing?
@IntuitiveTennis

Continuous swing is always better The video was slowed more in the drop phase…

In those replays starting at 7:20, it looks like you're hitting the person who's feeding you balls. I wondered about this at the intro, how many times did you actually hit the guy, and how hard was it to get him to come back and feed you more sitters? It's like playing doubles with a really bad partner, you're just sitting there waiting to get pegged... Inquiring minds want to know! 🤣 Keep up all the good work (and good luck finding another feeder), Your Faithful New Subscriber - JD, Montreal
