Ashi waza in general is the most beautiful set of techniques of Judo. Well at least for me. It does take a deep understanding of kuzushi and hence, loads and loads of randori, but perfectly executed, it looks almost like cheating.
Doesnt it look so beautiful when done correctly though? Meanwhile, Im over here struggling as if I were attempting to cut a tree trunk with one hand lol.
what should you be focusing on with your upper body while the foot is sweeping? With the sweeping foot are you kicking it or pushing it? how hard is the push?
Still, common confused why Practitioners lack understanding from a Judo Foundation one may enter rapid transition to BJJ or KJJ. What fits your fancy. Well, that's actually exactly what happened.
Sensei Glick, is Okuri Ashi possible in no gi? I’ve been trying to hit it with a circular motion (like one does in the Gi) but have been having a lot of trouble.
I have been training Judo since I was 7 and still love it at 47. De ashi barai is one of my favorites; this is a great detailed explanation because it can be tricky to make it happen against someone who knows. The setup and follow through are really neat. :)
even if he only hits one it would be okuri ashi.....imo since the opponents foot wasn't "advancing". Shintaro didn't say anything so de ashi is ok i guess. Beautiful throw and excellent uke!
If the leg you sweep is heavy/the opponent has great base even when causing off balances, what do you do? Especially against bigger guys, I struggle to get the sweep off because they are able to plant so quickly/consistently. Do you retract the leg and try a different sweep/a different off balance?
Do you like doing the de ashi/foot sweep with a collar tie too? Or do you find it doesn't have as much efficacy since you don't have as much control compared to an underhook
Hey brian! Love the channel. Do you have any general recommendations for a not-young or athletic person who is looking to get into the standing game more ?
Thanks it's a great video, it's a good way to apply an Ashi Barai, it came in my exam and I couldn't find a way to apply it without using the Gi, also do it easily and elegantly, greetings from Mexico.
