Finally, a shooter who can shoot without pre-mounting the gun. This is how sporting was meant to be shot!

Thank you Bob. I shoot predominantly gun down but will taylor the mount to the presentation so occasionally will start gun up.

@@simonarbuckle4123 I have to admit that I occasionally pre-mount the gun as well depending on the presentation however I predominantly chose to shoot gun down because learned to do so before the rules were changed to allow gun up. I still don't agree with the policy of letting tournament shooters pre-mount and I see many novice shooters hindered by pre-mounting because they can't see the bird well. This is a very informative and easy to understand video by the way, keep up the good work!

How much lead was you giving it

My students underestimate the lead on this target, as it appears to be slower than it actually is.

I was curious what a Battue was, not surprisingly it's a British thing

From shooters’ reactions I believe ‘battue’ is French for: “...Oh you bast..rd!”

(A) the red dot shows you where he’s pointing the gun relative to the clay so that’s how much lead, and.. (B) everyone sees lead differently, ask a number of different shooters “how much lead?” and you’re likely to get as many different answers as you have shooters....and... (C) depends what shooting method you’re using - swing through, maintained lead, pull ahead, will all seem to have differently perceived amounts of lead. When I was young (a long time ago) I too pored over books (no internet in those days) looking for the magic ‘how much lead’ figures, and it’s easy enough to work out, but in practice, the figure is of little use to you. You and I could both be breaking the clays on a particular stand, which means that we’re both giving the same, correct, amount of lead, however if we compared our perceptions of how much lead we’re giving, it’s unlikely that they’ll match!

@@dorsetdumpling5387 also would depend on how far out is is and how fast it’s traveling. Too many variables for a short answer. I took a lesson once and asked how much to lead. The instructor told don’t try to define it in turns of how many feet. Identify the target, either pull through and ahead, or stay in front matching the speed, and your brain will figure out how much to lead. 🤷‍♂️
