Excellent! I'm also a former ping-pong player and the pickleball players I play against hate me. Ping pong rules! 🤪

These are advanced shots and really for the 4.0+ players. Many beginner / intermediates should master dinking before trying these shots.

More and more of my fellow rec players are beginning to use this and, yes, it's very deceptive! Your clear explanation of how and when to use it were great and I look forward to learning it. An awesome weapon! Thanks so much.

Great video. I love this shot and learned it from Ben Johns on a Jordan Briones video and also on Simone's channel. See "How to hit a backhand roll." I'd just like to add to your detail when you drop the paddle head midway thru your stroke and then "flick" or turn your wrist over. Ben suggested focusing on turning your forearm over for consistency instead of flicking or getting too wristy, as that would create inconsistency. If you look again at your video, I'd say you actually turn your forearm over more than your wrist. Hope you welcome the add-on context to your great video.

New subscriber after watching this video. This was one of the most thorough explanation of a specific shot and when to use it. The slo mo was very helpful. AJ did a great explanation and it shows how effective this shot is. Hope your channel is successful and likely will be if it this is an indication of what's to follow👍

The way AJ teaches is super advanced.. like 4.5+ technique... the easier way to teach this is just to drop the paddle face down, and just raise your shoulder up and brush the back of the ball.. The way Fedz shows it here at :35 seconds is the basic version of this roll. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r2jD0vdl39g.html

Hi level play technique and even then I can't do it. Not enough muschle power at the wrist and elbow hurts when flicking it like that. Table tennis paddle is quite a bit lighter. Ex tennis and table tennis player (all recreational)

Great video! Clear explanations. I do have a couple critiques... 1. I can't see this shot, when hit off the bounce, working much at the 5.0+ level. In the initial video, Davidse (I think that's her), was pulled wide off the court. To compensate, her partner covered middle but moved way too far middle. He was literally straddling the T. Davidse is athletic and could have recovered to cover more middle. Because of his incorrect positioning, the line was wide open. This will very rarely happen with high-level pickleball players as there is an understanding that most players can recover from poor positioning so you should very rarely have to cover for your partner. If the player on the right was in a better position, there would have been no way to flick that shot off the bounce down the line for a winner. Would be an easy counter. That said, it can be a very effective shot hit out of the air with deception. One of Ben Johns marque shots. 2. Also, there is no need to point the paddle head down to the ground to generate sufficient top spin. Doing so will effectively telegraph the shot. Keep the paddle in the same position as a regular dink and start your swing volley/attack from this starting point. Much better for deception. Using an eastern grip from this starting point will result in more than enough top spin.

I think you mean Salome Devidze. First you're a beginner and you don't even know the net is too wide. Then you're an intermediate, and you realize you can only cover 12-14 feet, mostly by working together. Then you're pro or a tweener, and you can usually cover 10-12 feet all by yourself. But actually, at any level beyond the beginner level, I think positioning is empirical. If you find yourself getting beat wide, then you stray less far into the middle. If your partner _isn't_ always fast enough to recover, and you're being beaten in the gap, they you shift further into the middle. If _both_ of those are happening, you dial your telepathy up to 11, and choose the lesser of two evils. If that doesn't work, either, then you properly guard your line, and let your partner practice a weak skill. Maybe you work together to take some of those wide dinks off the opponent's menu by attacking sooner, with greater risk. You really can't judge the big guy cheating to center until you see how he adjusts to reality on the court over a longer time frame.

Yes. I have been doing that in ping pong since I was 8 years old. I'm 61 now. We just have to remember that with pickleball, the racket doesn't grip the ball like in ping pong with a rubber face

Why do you hit back hand so much when you don’t have to ? I understand when it’s far to your left if right handed but when you can see it can be easily hit straight back? Thank you!
