I trained for 2 weeks then I could hold my breath for over 3 minutes under water. But I did the excercise fast and not slow and relaxed

You kids did great. I start to panic after a minute! But, when I was in the Coast Guard many, many years ago, I trained for Search and Rescue. I had to hold my breath for 5 minutes. When combined with the dead man's float technique, it was a way to use less energy when far from shore or trying to survive for long periods of time while lost at sea. People drown because they become exhausted trying to stay afloat for long periods of time waiting for rescue. The dead man's float technique and reduced breathing actually save lives.

When I was a kid I was a trombone player and could sit at the bottom of the deep end until a lifeguard jumped in . This is a good practical exercise for everyone, especially young people. It's something that could save their lives someday.
