We have a permit from the TTB but it’s only for products made with denatured alcohol. The permitting process - even for room sprays - made with spirits that are not denatured - is different apparently (and typically also requires a state permit) so the TTB permit most of us get doesn’t cover the sale of products made with alcohol that isn’t denatured, unfortunately. It’s a holdover from the good old prohibition days when people were buying alcohol based “medicinal” products to drink when they couldn’t access typical spirits. I’m an attorney so I tend to overly research things 😂

@@janamontiel1066 hmmm the only rules I’m seeing are only for alcohol based beverages. I’m not seeing anything related to permits or rules regarding using alcohol in room sprays other than the TTB one. Any suggestions?

@@HowToLymarie it’s under Title 27 of the CFR. It’s basically a labyrinth that is written as confusingly as possible. The TTB defines “alcohol” as “Spirits known as ethyl alcohol, ethanol, or spirits of wine.” And then it defines “articles” as “Any substance or preparation made with denatured spirits, including specially denatured spirits. This term includes substances or preparations that contained specially denatured spirits and were further reprocessed by adding additional materials.” So that would cover preparations like room sprays, body sprays, perfumes, etc (and lucky us that Florida has even more regulations governing body sprays and perfumes under the guise that they’re “cosmetic” 😤). For products falling under the definition of “article,” the TTB requires as permit - at least as far as I can tell. I’ve not been able to find any applicable exemptions. That said, I’d recommend consulting with an attorney who specializes in TTB compliance (definitely not my specialty). Please don’t take my word for it. But I’m always a fan of better safe than sorry! ☺️

I get my fragrance oils from many companies including Makesy, Porter candle supply, scent memory and others

You can calculate the percentage by adding the total recipe. Next divide each ingredient by the total amount and multiply by 100. 0.50 FO + 1.00 poly 80 + 2.50 alco. = 4 0.50 / 4 x 100 = 12.50% 12.50% FO 25.09% Poly 80 62.50% Alcohol

I spray it on my linens. Just know that some fragrance oils are thicker than others and may stain linens so keep an eye on the thickness of your formula.

Natural? No. Plant based? Yes. The polysorbate 80 I use is vegan, the fragrances I use are vegan and the alcohol is plant based and vegan. However, using non vegan poly or non vegan fragrances will obviously make this recipe not plant based.
