For any aussies who are confused by not having an Australia region at the steelminer site, you can just use the European region as it works. (Even though we're technically separate regions, their games work on our 3dses and vice versa)

Yeah, it does! It's a little wonky at times though. prboom just won't run on my old 3DS for some reason. Oh, and if your bottom screen goes yellow forever while booting up an app or homebrew itself, hold down the power button, turn it back on and try again. As I said, it's wonky sometimes. PS: The comment isn't actually me trying to be funny. I don't know why I wrote that. Oh Well...
ok, by some magic this works on latest! i fucked up and updated my ds ahead of time thinking this guide was for current firmware (its not) but as long as you do everything exactly and enter old11.9.0-42u into the box at step 9:07-9:20 (or whatever is closest to your firmware) it seems to work! this might have just been EXTREME luck on my end but im on latest with home-brew and i couldn't be happier!
It worked! Though, one piece of advice for others trying this, pay attention to the "otherapp" website's notice above the slots, as you only mark the first slot "NEW" if you have a New 3DS, New 2DS XL, etc. But you mark it "OLD" if it's just a standard 3DS or 2DS. I marked wrong the first time, and it changed my results entirely! :)
FOR EVERYONE WHO COULDNT GET IT TO WORK: OKAY AT FIRST THIS DIDNT WORK FOR ME AT ALL AND I WAS GETTING BUMMED OUT.. So I went back to to see if I did the “other app” info right.. turns out I put the same as his when I live in the US and my version would be the same but instead of E (Europe) its U (United States) (You should check if you put YOUR 3ds’ version.. then i renamed it payload as he said and replaced it with the old payload I put in the file... Then I checked to see if it would run... Did not.. So I went back and found out I accidentally put the steelhax file and 3ds file and any other file that wasn’t supposed to be in the Nintendo DS file in the Nintendo DS file instead of the ROOT of the SD card.. so I just moved everything that wasn’t supposed to be there and moved it to the ROOOOOOOTT of the SD card, AKA when you first open up the file of your SD card once you put it into your computer AFTER THAT IT WORKED RIGHT AWAY WHEN I OPENED UP SUB WARS :)! I know this wasn’t really well worded but i hope this helps ANYONE struggling :)!
@@kaylarchibald9923 On your 3DS homescreen, on the top there should be an orange happy face. Press that, and then you will come to the Friends screen. Tap the Register Friend icon, which also looks like an orange smiley face. When the menu opens, choose whether you want to register a friend that is Local or on the Internet. For this bot, press Internet. Then there will be an option to put a PIN, for that just put the number you have on the site. You can put whatever name you wish, it doesn't matter.

Okay so I tried this and it didn’t work. Turns out I was putting the shortcuts to the files on the sad card instead of the actual files. I tried it the right way and it worked. Thank you so much! This is a very helpful vid!

OMG, a HomeBrew that FINALLY workssss... I've tried for over a year to Homebrew my 3ds, but I always needed a game... now it's truly free! Thanks my guy!
It works! and it also works for the new update, it might crashed the first time you open it and showed only a yellow screen, Just do a hard reset pressing the on button for 3 seconds and then turn it on again and open the game!

heh, your not done yet, now that ya got steelhax, it cant do much, so its time to get REAL CFW, go over to a guide of how to get frogminer, and follow each step to the letter or else your 3ds might brick
For people doing payload.bin on Mac, some types of Mac may not have the properties tab. Don't worry. Just right click, tap rename, and rename the file to payload.bin
THANK YOU!!! Took me FOREVER to figure out how to do this on my old 2DS and I half expected it not to work, but amazingly, it did. The tutorial did a great job explaining everything I needed to know! Spoidey it's not recommended. Uninstalling CFW can cause problems with the software. I uninstalled it once, it broke the system settings so I couldn't access it
Spoidey there's literally like a 1% chance of a brick. But you'll be fine. Just follow all tutorials closely. I've homebrewed 3 times and I'm about to do my Dad's DS soon. No bricks at all yet
Spoidey maybe try force power off the system by holding the power button and try again or reinstalling the CFW files and retrying the method But you will know when it's bricked. Don't worry, I bet it's fine.
steelhax doesn't work for eu YET in 11.10.. how long will we have to wait? other regions say they are fine with it. also when it works for eu, will i have to do anything to subwars or will it work normally?

I thought it wasn't working, then I looked through it again and realized one of the files I copied was a desktop shortcut. Make sure you look over it and don't make that mistake. Works like a charm now! Thanks for helping me out! ^-^ Edit: On the second video I did something wrong and nearly bricked my system. If you hit one wrong thing in one of the menus it might not boot if you don't have the hacked SD card in and it will only boot less and crash if you open the homebrew launcher. I had to reset it to factory default and that fixed it, glad I have a Nintendo Network ID and that stores my miis and stuff. I think I'm gonna try to hack it again but tomorrow I'm gonna be much more careful and use a different SD card for good measure. ^-^ Also PS if you use other channel's advice in conjunction nothing is gonna work. Gotta say this guy and his simplified method is your best bet to get things working. I looked at another guy and he was making you type python command to manually change things rather than just downloading a pack that already has the needed files like on his website. Still complicated, but Jack's is probably still the easiest & most convenient way since everything is in one place.
Can't understand why it won't work for me. Whenever I load up Sub Wars I just get a black screen? Edit: I found the fix further down in the comments, thanks to @Elise. The issue was the payload file. I just changed it from OLD to NEW and replaced the payload file and that fixed it.
@@kevinmachado1613 Just a regular 3DS. I think the website said to use OLD for anything other than a 3DS XL or a 2DS XL but I used NEW anyway and it worked.

I wanted to do it today (28 May 2019) and what's up, FIRMWARE UPDATE 11.10.0.43! Great. I hope that the HB developers can quickly find a solution and the video comes quickly.
xD that happened to me as well on the same day. Been looking around on the internet since then. People say u can still homebrew with 11.10 but there is no video to it

Anton Kdrshv all you need to do is go to your settings on your DS, go to microSD management, follow the prompt and you’ll see it connect on your computer. Basically when he says “put the microSD card back into your DS”, you just close out of the settings app and it’ll disconnect the wireless connection to your computer.
@@Grosserracker it's just the homebrew channel, no CFW and the HB channel alone to most people is useless as a rock, you can't install custom themes, can't install FBI, can't install cia's
it dosen't work I've done it twice now first time I just got a blank screen I left it for hours and nothing happened. The second time when I start sub wars the game crashes after a few seconds. I followed his instructions perfectly and it didn't work I have the same version as jack so I don't know what went wrong
What kind of DS you got? I had the same problem until i changed the payload.bin file to OLD (i got a 3DS XL) maybe you gotta switch that on the otherapp website.

I was about to hack my 3DS the other day and sure enough Nintendo released 11.10. Will this work for 11.10 or should I wait for your next video? I did everything and followed step by step. When I go in to homebrew and click on a downloaded Emulator, it attempts to load then the top screen goes black while the bottom turns yellow and stays like that. Any idea what the problem is?
I found out it was just the emulator I was using they weren't compatible with this version of homebrew after getting more up to date one it fixed the issue
