How to Homebrew Your Original Nintendo 3DS & 2DS (11.17) 

To anyone who cant see the menuhax67_installer: At 5:40, he visually shows to drop the menuhax67_installer.3dsx file into the Nintendo 3DS folder on the SD card but he audible says to drop the menuhax67_installer.3dsx file into the 3ds folder which threw me off until I fixed it by dropping menuhax67_installer.3dsx into the other correct 3ds folder

I wish that this had come out two months ago when I was trying to mod my friends 3DS and ended up using a stone age method because she was on version 8 or something else insanely old 😭😭

Great guide. Note: mine DID crash consistent when trying to launch mk7 ROP exploit injector. Tried multiple times. Changed language to French and still crashed, changed language to Spanish and it worked! Finished process and changed language back to English no problem. Thanks for the guide!

TO ANYONE THAT MARIO KART 7 IS CRASHING FOR The fix is to switch your language from English to Spanish, this worked for me.

November 27 2023 - This still works like a charm! Just modded my 2 kids' 2DS consoles :)

Someone had given me their 2DS to mod in June. Thing being they tried to mod it themselves and (I think) gave up into the Boot9Strap. So I actually used the Mario Kart 7 method to preload my homebrew onto his! And it actually suceeded! I'm glad you're doing this incase anyone has this sort of thing!

10:28 On Mac that doesn't work the first time, you have to repeat the process as long as necessary, until the file is displayed, for my part the folder’s name is 307

I modded mine when I heard the eShop was shutting down, and I learned the hard way that removing the SD card too many times can damage the port. However, you can fix the port on your own by inserting a different SD card a few times (this will end up breaking the parts of the SD card that register that it's inserted into something though)

I cant seem to get past 11:34 of the video. The 3DS screen shows the proper screen for 1/2 a second and then get an exception occurred error Processor: Arm11 (core 1) Exception Type: data abort Fault status: Translation - Page Current process: menu (0004003000008F02) I've tried at least 10 times but continue to get this error. Can anybody please help?

I just did this for both of my old 3DS yesterday at around 5am. One with the Digital Mario Kart 7 game and another without the game but using the Download Play feature. I used the online guide, very well made

At 11:14 I am having problems my 3DS keeps crashing once I go to start the race on street pass it loads the menu but then my 3DS crashes and I tryed switching the languages and it still did not work any help?

So I try to using this method to mod my brothers 3DS now I use the Mac Version kart miner and I followed everything but when I go onto street pass it says this “when you tag another Mario kart 7 Player via Street pass they will be added to your friends” and it doesn’t let me go in to street pass is there a fix for this?

I have that one 3ds that can't be modded... But I used your custom R4 firmware that finally allows me to play my favorite gba games without any problem :) Any other gba runner always caused crashes

Issues around the 11:14 mark, keep crashing when I tap on streetpass. I saw similar comments so if I fix it, I'll edit this comment. Edit: So for clarification, I started my attempts in English but switched to French after it kept crashing. French got me a little further, but after it crashed again, I tried Spanish. That's when it started working :)

I have ran into a problem where I have the nimdsphax option on the homebrew launcher, but not the other. How can I fix this?

Just wanted to drop a comment to say I tried this on 13/11/2023 and it worked perfectly. I did have to change the language of my system so that the MK7 stopped crashing but other than that everything worked perfectly. Thank you so much! I also wanted to reasure anyone concerned about the functionality of the Download Play app. It's temporary and resets upon rebooting.

PLZ HELP!!!! Im stuck at the point where you are booted into the Homebrew Launcher AFTER you click home settings and flashing colors are shown and mine is stuck on red. Yes I do have the launcher.dat file on the root of the sd card but I dont know what to do. Please Let me know how to fix this!!

Imma give an honest review: I think this was a great tutorial, I had to slow it down and rewind it a few times especially because I was mainly on Mac and had to navigate it. BUT this was by far the easiest one I’ve found. Its explained well and really included all of the brands other than windows. Took some time but I go it done and I’m thankful !! I just wanted to be honest because I under stand everyone’s thankfulness on all of the tutorials like this but some are misleading!

is there a way to undo everything and restart? because the menuhax installler doesnt pop up and i put it in the right 3ds folder edit: i moved menuhax to a different 3ds folder and it shows up on the homebrew menu but now when i press a the top screen goes black and the bottom one goes red then it returns to the homebrew menu

i keep getting the red screen upon pressing the top left home button.. I restarted so many times and I am sure I have the launcher.dat file

Um I modded my old 3ds and I’m on steam os Linux btw and I tried opening the restore USA file at the end but the exploit is still there when I open Mario kart channel idk how to restore the save data

At the 11:50 mark you say to hit the home menu settings icon which should launch homebrew launcher. I do infact have launcher.dat on my sd card. Mine only gives me an error has occurred. Please save your data in any software currently in use, and restart the system. Ideas?

Btw I'm not sure if anyone will see this comment but as of today 11.17.5 is the newest version and I'm pretty sure doesn't require mario kart

This guide helped me regain all the digital games I lost when I replaced my 3ds xl motherboard. I no longer have access to my old nintendo network id as I can't access the recovery email address so this helped me regain Mario and Luigi Dream Team and do so much more.

start at 8:55 or 12:57 if you already have a homebrewed 3ds / have your friend added & you mostly just need the homebrewed apps.

I made the dumb decision to update my *already modded* 3DS XL, and I reset everything to get rid of the account that was originally on it, to create my own, but I didn’t realize it ALSO got rid of CFW. Guess i gotta buy MK7 now.

I feel as if I have missed a step somewhere when following the video. Does the Beta mk7v1.2 Folder have to be on the Root of the SD card? I've followed the video Tutorial thus far but when I go to launch Mario Kart and press A repeatedly, I just get a white screen and an error message. I've changed the language from English to Spanish. I feel as if I should also have the Moveable.sed file step on my SD card, rather than on my PC. Where have I gone wrong? I would appreciate some feedback and confirmation of my steps. EDIT: I've continued with the video steps, but found that whatever language I select to try and trigger the exploit, I just get a white screen and an error. The only language that possibly works is Italian, as the Mario Kart menu crashes, which gives me hope something is happening somewhere. How have people completed the exploit? EDIT 2: I purchased a Cartridge copy of the Game and completed a Factory Reset of my Console. I now have a modded Console. Must be the Cartridge that helps instead of a Digital copy. Who knows.

hey i was at the second part of the homebrew launcher where you had to launch menuhax, where i saw it wasn’t there… the file was there it just didn’t appear. and now being angry, i accidently froze the console (the screen being stuck) and decided to do the power off feature on the rosalina menu, and now nothing works, can’t power off the console or anything. i tried removing mk7 and the sd card and got nothing, still looking at the frozen homebrew screen. any tips or am i screwed with a bricked 2ds?
